A GREY & OVERCAST SUNNY MANILVA ON MONDAY AT THE START OF THE ' VENDIMIA' WEEKEND.

MONDAY 28th/ AUGUST 2017.

We were both up this morning and after a very quick freshen up we shot down to the surgery, in the car, for our appointments, Brenda with our Doctor, Natalia, and me for my Blood tests etc, Brenda’s tablets have been adjusted after Natalia checked her daily blood pressure reading, my readings are a lot better and with my weight loss she gave me the ‘ thumbs up’! We are going back in two weeks for an update/review.

NB; We are both using the exercise bike, everyday, starting on the lowest settings and increasing the time week by week, also given the ' thumbs up ' by Natalia!!

After parking the car I called into the Town Hall and we found out the new ‘ Chiropodist ‘ is now taking appointments, it’s Laura, the first one to look after us, who has taken over while Carmen  who is still off sick, with a broken hand, I’m going down to the surgery, this evening, to see her and make the appointments for us, watch this space.

We then treated ourselves to ‘ Crispy Smoked Bacon Butties ‘ – open on Brown for Brenda, with mugs of steaming tea to set us up for the week ahead.

This morning it’s grey & overcast with black clouds on the horizon, there is a stiff breeze but it’s still due to reach 26/27 degs, we are expecting rain over the next 2/3 days before it picks up on Thursday in time for the ‘ Vendimia Wine Festival ‘ over the weekend here in the village, the following week is looking warm & sunny, back to normal for the time of the year, watch this space.

This afternoon the handyman, Juan, is coming to finish the work in the upstairs bathroom and then he’s going to do some repairs/re-tiling etc in the downstairs toilet.

In ‘ Doggy World Heaven ‘ this week little princess ‘ Reina’ is back with us on Wednesday for three days, next week ‘ Charlie ‘ arrives on Thursday for his annual two weeks holiday, we are looking forward to welcoming him back with us, he’s a real character, very good company and gets on with all the other dogs, Chispa ‘ had been in & out over the weekend and will no doubt be calling in later.

For our supper this evening we are having ‘ Cold Smoked Ham’ topped with ‘ Campo’ Fried Eggs, Garden Peas and of course twice-cooked ‘ Frits’ on the side, we still taking each day as it comes, tomorrow we have Calves Liver, I’m going down to the Butchers and will pick up some ‘ Minced Beef/Pork ‘ for a  ‘Cottage Pie ‘ on Wednesday, I will also pick up the Diced Beef for the traditional ‘Beef & Vegetable Casserole ‘ for the ‘ Vendimia’ weekend, watch this space.

Yesterday in ‘ La Liga ‘ Real Madrid were held to a 2-2 draw at home to Valencia, over in the ‘ Premier League’ Chelsea won 2-0 at home to Everton, the ‘ Match of the Day ‘ was at Anfield as Liverpool, they beat Arsenal 4-0 with a excellent display of attacking football with 4 superbly taken goals!

Meanwhile over in the “ Vuelta a Espana 17 “ on Stage 9 – Chris Froome extended his lead after winning the stage, his team led him onto the final climb and set a very good tempo, then one of his team mates led him to the final 500 metres where he jumped away from all his rivals, two years ago on the same climb he was beaten into second place, he had re-viewed the footage in the morning and made his plans to win the stage this time! Today is a ‘ Rest Day ‘ before Tuesday’s stage from Caravaca to El Pozo over 165 kms.

See the picture below as he crossed the finishing line.

For a change today I’m posting some pictures of Trams & Narrow Gauge Trains, over in the ‘ Isle of Man ‘ at the ‘Douglas Bay Tramway, in North Wales and over in Australia of ‘ Puffing Bill ‘!  See below.

Don't forget to click on all the picture to enlarge!

All our TV Systems are working so last night after supper we watched the first episode (3) of “ Strike: The Cuckoo’s Calling “ written by JK Rowling, the detective story is about a damaged Army veteran with only one Leg, who is now a Private Eye, down on his luck, who is on the trail of a high-society murderer.

Tom Burke plays ‘Cormoran Strike’- hence the title, and his sassy, ultra-competent secretary is played by Holliday Granger, Tara Fitzgerald is a society witness with a secret, Martin Shaw appears as a seedy celebrity lawyer, the victim is a top fashion model who returns to her sound-proof penthouse, then in an apparent suicide, she is lying dead on the pavement three floors below?!

All very exciting with an excellent cast, showing the seedy side of Soho with it’s ‘dirty spoon’ cafe and local bar where he conducts his business, one not to miss!

PS; In the lunchtime post we have just received our first post card from the Isle of Man, thanks Vic, Sue & Ben! " Thank's "   It shows the world famous ' Laxey Wheel '  Keep them coming, from all our family and friends all over the World.

Thoughts for the Day;  See above.
