MANILVA START OF THE WEEKEND.

THURSDAY/FRIDAY/SATURDAY 28th/29th/30th JUNE 2012.

Well after Wednesday’s little bit of excitement we took things easy on Thursday; I had a day in the office catching up on the WWW. – it turned out to be a “ Helluva ” good experience. On Facebook David and Paul gave the first details of their next venture for the ‘ New Moon Pub Company ’ they have acquired a new site in the heart of Knutsford – David’s home town where the family business was/is “ The Belle Époque Brasserie ”They have the keys and the surveyors,architects,builders,designers and decorators have moved in ! The old ‘ Red Cow ’ is set to become “ The Old Sessions House Pub and Kitchen ” Watch this space for further updates.
As I was on Facebook also the ‘ Taste Cheshire ’page published some pictures about the food at the ‘ Pollards Inn ’ in Willaston on the Wirral – one of our old business’s which brought back very many happy memories from back in the 80s/90s ! The food is good old fashioned ‘Proper ’ food brought up to date; I left a comment on their page and sent them our good whishes – to our surprise we had a very quick replay from the page and in their comments it referred to me as ‘ Mr S ’ which intrigued me as I have been known by this since back in Liverpool in the late 60s ! It turned out that ‘ Izzy ’ who wrote to us had worked for us at the ‘Pollards ’ when we gave her her first job at the tender age of sixteen ! She has remained in the business and now has her own consultancy business – so we then went into all the details about the new regime at the ‘ Pollards ’and their plans for the future. I then sent her a copy of a newspaper article when we won an award at the ‘ Pollards ’and it shows us on the steps with all the old staff ! She has since published it on Facebook – thanks Izzy ! See Above – click on to enlarge. In the evening we had Pan Fried flattened Chicken Breast that I coated in savory breadcrumbs from the butchers – it was very tasty and we had new potatoes and sliced Green Beans along with a sauce boat of my now ‘ Famous ’ Tomato Salsa ’ !

On Friday morning we caught up with the shopping down in Sabinillas and at the same time sent a birthday card off ( Watch Out ! ) and swapped some books, then we bought a new clock for the kitchen ( Very Important for Timing ) and a new lead for Cheta. In the evening for supper we had Pan Fried fillets of Hake with crispy skin along with Square cut crispy chips, Garden Peas and more of the ‘ Goes with anything ’ Tomato Salsa ! We then caught the late film – “ Rob Roy ” from 1995 and starring Liam Neeson in the main role along with Jessica Lange, John Hurt and Tim Roth playing a really good ‘ Baddi ! ’ Last night as I was checking out Facebook late on I saw on the Manilva page that the Inauguration of the new “ Plaza De La Amistad ” had taken place earlier in the day; I had not seen any announcement on the council web page and so we did not know that it was happening so the pictures above I have taken from their page !

Today, Saturday, we have been for a good walk around the village as there is a little ‘ Lavente ’ breeze blowing in from Africa ; the pictures below show that today there is a 24 hr sports meeting taking place with all sorts of sports taking place ; Indoor Tennis , Padel Tennis, Five/Seven a side football on the grass and hard-court pitches and tonight there is even a Horse Show somewhere in the village – watch this space. The new seating in front of the children’s play area has been finished in Mosaic as well as the final wall on the main wall of the new plaza. On the way back we stopped at the pool complex as it is all hands to the pumps to finish in time for the re-opening – the Marble surrounds have gone down and they are laying the new tiles as I type this – watch this space – finally they have now fenced off the new Plaza Pozo Del Rey as they are now laying down the concrete on the lower ground floor as you can se in the picture taken through the hole in the fence ! This afternoon I’ am hopefully going to watch the start of the ‘ Tour de France ’ on TVE1 or the PC as I have set up the web pages as well as following it on the Facebook page ! This year is the 99th running of the race and 22 teams are taking part with 198 riders from today to the finish in Paris on the 22nd July ! Tonight we are having Steak a la Plancha with chips for supper.

PS; The Tour has started as I have been typing this Sadly Bradley Wiggins was thwarted in the 6.4km prologue around Liege in Belgium by Fabian Cancellara who now has the Yellow Jersey for first full stage on Sunday.

PPS; We found the Horse show and the pictures are above ( For Deb in Australia ! )

Thought for the Day;

There’s some good in the world, and it’s worth fighting for.

MANILVA START OR THE WEEK.

MONDAY/TUESDAY/WEDNESDAY 25th/26th/27th JUNE 2012.

First of all the weather forecast for the week ; are you ready ? It’s more of the same ! Sun, Sun and more Sun down here on the ‘ Costa Del Sol ’ !! On Monday I started the 48 hr diet regime on the run up to the Wednesday investigation – so it was tea with no milk and toast with no butter to start ! At lunchtime we had Steak a la Plancha dry with no oil or butter and for dinner it was poached Breast of Chicken just as it came ! Brenda is going along with the diet in symphony !! In the afternoon Mano and Anna called in with two bottles of Cava as a belated birthday for Brenda as Mano had a very busy weekend at the villa with a large wedding reception ; we caught up with all their news and gossip and Anna and Brenda cracked open the Cava and Mano had a few beers – sadly no alcohol for me ! ( Brenda did not come out in symphony this time ) ! !

Tuesday morning was then onto the 24 hr liquid diet – so water only – then later the 2 litre laxative at 6-00pm ! As I was checking the WWW. in the office I noticed that one of the pensions had come in a day early – and nearly had an heart attack as on the calendar the hospital appointment was marked for Tuesday not Wednesday – we had got our dates mixed up ! I rang the hospital straight away and explained and they cancelled the appointment but they could not give me another as the computer system was down – they said the only way was to go to the x-ray department at the hospital to sort it out so we shot across to the hospital and then got caught in the system for a while before we got help from a friendly consultant who arranged for a new appointment on Wednesday lunchtime which meant that I could carry on with the regime as normal ! Phew !!

So Wednesday morning Brenda administered the necessary and let mother nature take its cause ! Just before we left we had a nice Skype Video call from Brian and Lilli in Pori,Finland to wish Brenda belated birthday wishes as they had been away – it sounds like they are coming over for the ‘ Vendimia ’ festival at the start of September ! Watch out ! I saw that Zoë and Graham were on-line so we had a quick chat with them over in Manchester at the same time. We then made our way across back to the hospital – this is when we encountered the new tunnel open as you can see below; the appointment was on time and I went into the special x-ray department with three very nice nurses ! They gave me one injection and then set up an intravenous system in my arm after giving me a full check over and signing the consent form ! The good news was that it was only a special series of eternal x-ray’s not internal ! It took a long time and near the end I had to at their request go for ‘ Pee Pee ’as the nurse put it – which is a bit of a problem as I had not had any liquids for twelve hours – positive thinking was called for !! Success !! I emerged over an hour later to find Brenda was sat on her own as all the other appointments had finished. I then had a nice drink of cool water and a banana before we set off back. On the way back we decided to do some essential shopping as we where over in Marbella – we called at the car accessories supermarket and picked up a steering wheel cover ( Pink Polka Dots ) – it was the only one that they had ! Then we found the glass picture frame that we needed in ‘ Leroy Merlin ’ and finally in the new ‘ Habitat ’in the shopping mall ‘ La Canada ‘we found a glass beaker replacement for our ‘ La Caffetire ’ that was broken in the wash ! A good result all round !
In the evening for dinner we had minute Steak a la Plancha with crisp chips and I had a fried egg on top ! We then settled down to watch the first semi-final Spain v Portugal – Spain did not play well and at times Portugal outplayed them but Ronaldo and Nani did not come up to their full potential and the game was a boring goalless draw ! Spain won 4-2 on the penalty shoot out but are very lucky to be in the final – the other semi-final tonight is between Germany, the favorites, and Italy – Spain will have to play out of their skins to win whoever they play I’ am sorry to say ! Watch this space.

PS; Germany lost to Italy 2-1 and were totally outplayed by the Italians in attack and defense and Balotelli scored the two cracking goals to set up the final against Spain - they played in the group stages and the score was 1-1 so it's all to play for !

Thought for the Day;

Success seems to be largely a matter of hanging on after others have let go.

SAN PEDRO DE ALCANTARA TUNNEL OPEN TODAY AM.

WEDNESDAY 27th JUNE 2012 11-OO AM.

As we were on our way to the hospital over past Marbella this morning we came to the San Pedro De Alcantara by-pass junction only to see the new tunnel lights turn to green ! So the pictures below,taken from the ' Ford Fiesta ( it thinks it is a Ferrari ) by the co-driver/navigator/asst,cameraman show the new tunnel on it's opening and then on our return from the hospital ! Most impressive and the journey time reduced by 10 mins.and no hold ups - the old road through San Pedro De Alcantara had three sets of traffic lights !!

MANILVA OVER THE WEEKEND.

SATURDAY/SUNDAY 23rd/24th JUNE 2012.

The weather is still improving ( Getting hotter ! ) and by the start of next week it will be 39/40 degs ! It is now starting to look like one of the hottest June in the last fifty years !! On Saturday we had a nice easy day at home after the weeks celebrations; Brenda caught up with the washing and cleaning, it’s good drying weather, and I was in the office on the WWW. The pictures of ‘ San Juan ’came from the Manilva Facebook page as we decided not to go down this year, The Lord Binning Pub and Kitchen over in Kelsall is going from strength to strength ( Watch out for the second ) in the very near future ! The picture taken by Deb,Brenda’s niece, over in Melbourne was taken at the southern most point of Australia – ‘ Cape Lightrap ’ At the moment her farm and animals are flooded out again after the earthquake ! Things can only get better soon Deb !! The Manilva Cycle Club had a day out and about in the area on Saturday, the flowers which a Spanish friend, Marie Luisa brought for Brenda are one of her favorites and the good old fashioned cards always look great. Thanks to all the family and friends for the phone calls, text messages and Facebook comments on Brenda’s birthday. The music concert on Friday evening was well attended and you could see how the junior acts had improved from last year. In the evening on Saturday for dinner we had ‘ Rib-Eye ’ steaks that we picked up from the English butchers in Duquesa on Thursday, they were very tasty and succulent – afterwards we watched Spain beat France 2-0 who did not play well, and go through to the semi-final against Portugal. We then went for a walk, at midnight, down to The Mirador at the start of the village in the cool night air to watch the firework display down on the beach in Sabinillas after the ‘ San Juan ’ fire – we waited and waited but with no luck so we walked back up to Bar Rojas and were talking to Lumy when they started – late ! That’s life as they say !!

On Sunday we had a very relaxing day at home and in the evening for the ‘ Last Supper ’ before my 48hr diet ready for Wednesday, we had Pan Fried flattened Turkey Breast in foaming lemon Butter with Mushrooms and sliced green Beans ( No Roast for a while ) and then settled down to watch England v Italy – England were annihilated and totally outplayed by the Italians after the first 15 mins and eventually lost 4-2 on penalties ,again to see Italy go through to the other semi-final against Germany.

Thought for the Day;

You don’t get in life what you want, you get in life what you are.
