THOUGHTS FOR THE DAY FROM A RATHER WINDY SUNNY MANILVA;

....

A NOW RATHER WINDY AND SUNNY MANILVA ON SATURDAY.

SATURDAY 29th/ FEBRUARY 2020.   “ LEAP YEAR/DAY “ !

We all had a nice lie in this morning, ‘Chico & Lolo’ as usual slept all night, after a quick freshen up we took them out for their first walk of the day around the bottom of the village, when we returned I had for breakfast Brenda’s world famous  ‘ Campo Poached Eggs on Toast ‘ – Scrambled for herself, with mugs of hot/strong Tea, to set us up for the day ahead.

See Below;

In ‘ Doggy World Heaven’ next week ‘ Chico’ is due to be picked up next Friday, after his nearly 4 week holiday, ‘Lolo’ will be with us until later in the month ( mid March) – little ‘Miss Bella’ is not with us next week, the following week she is back on Monday/Tuesday & Wednesday. Sadly over the past week we have had to turn down having ‘ Scooby’ - one of our regulars, back with us for week and also, from the past   ‘Reina with her new girlfriend, little ‘Miss Daisy’ – also for week ! Watch this space.

This morning on our walk it was very hot in the sunshine, but with a cooling/stiff breeze blowing down from the mountains behind the village ( Poinente) as the next/new, wet & windy ‘ Atlantic’ front blows in, the tail-end of ‘Storm Jorge’ that is hitting the UK this weekend. The sky is clear and blue so by lunchtime it’s still forecast to reach 19/20 degs+ - overnight down to 11/12 degs, tomorrow staying the same, with the chance of the ‘ Wet-Stuff’ – next week is now looking rather unsettled, with sunny patches, a stiff breeze and patchy ‘ Rain’ at times, hovering in the high ‘ teens’ – by next Tuesday up to 21 degs+ - going warm & sunny, sadly next weekend a little cooler as the wind stiffens, watch this space.

On the sports front this weekend; over in the ‘ Premiere League’ Liverpool travel down the M6/1 to play Watford and Everton welcome Manchester Utd on Sunday, down at Wembley, also on Sunday it’s the final of the ‘ EFL Carabao’ Cup’ as Aston Villa play Manchester City. Over here in ‘La Liga’ tomorrow in Madrid it’s the ‘ El Classico’ as Real Madrid welcome Barcelona – a ‘ must-win’ game for both team – as the fight to win ‘La Liga’!

The ‘National Hunt Racing’ this afternoon is from Doncaster.

See below a couple of pictures taken this morning, in a still rather overcast day, of the “ HMS Prince of Wales “ berthed at the Pier Head in Liverpool.

And now with a Blue sky!

                                                                                             " Captain Darren Huston "

For our supper this evening we are having a large ‘ Grilled Rib of Beef’ – on the bone, cooked on a very hot griddle-plate ‘ Med-Rare’ – then left to rest, before taking it off the bone and slicing into fingers ‘ French’ style, garnished with seared Asparagus Spears, Button Mushroom & Shallots, accompanied with a classic ‘ Bearnasie’ sauce and served with Whole ‘ French’ Baby Green Beans and of course triple-cooked ‘ Frits’

Tomorrow we are celebrating “ St. David’s Day “ in style; the ‘ Welsh Standard’ with be flying outside, as we prepare our ‘Welsh Banquet Supper’ when Leah, Ryan, who comes from Abergele in North Wales, and their son Deemy, along with little ‘ Miss Bella’ join us for supper. Watch this space.

This evening after supper will as usual settle down to channel hop to find something to watch.

THOUGHTS FOR THE DAY FROM SUNNY MANILVA;

A VERY WARM & SUNNY MANILVA ON FRIDAY AT THE START OF A ' HELLUVA' WEEKEND.

FRIDAY 28th/ FEBRUARY 2020.    “ DIA DE ANDALUCIA “

“ GLOBAL SCOUSE DAY “

We had a nice lie in this morning as the village is even quieter than normal, as it’s a ‘Bank Holiday’ down here on the ‘ Costa Del Sol’ & all over Andalusia, as it’s the “ Dia De Andalucia “ when they celebrate the 1980 referendum on the ‘ Statute of Autonomy of Andalusia ‘ – that made Andalusia an autonomous community of Spain!

‘Chico & Lolo’ made friends last night after ‘Lolo ‘ arrived for his now nearly three weeks holiday, they are both getting on very well and slept all night, ‘Chico’ on his duvet and ‘Lolo’ in his bed, across the foot of our bed on the floor ! We had to wake them up this morning, ‘Chico’ in English and ‘Lolo’ in Spanish! After freshening up we took them both out for their first walk of the day around the bottom of the village, they are both into the routine and have found their ‘ spots’ – they both have good appetites and are now relaxing under my feet as I’m typing/posting today’s Blog!

When we returned we had our breakfast, as I was on the rota I had my favourite ‘ Toasted Crispy Smoked Bacon Butty’ – smothered in ‘ HP’ Brown sauce – open on brown for Brenda, with her favourite sliced Baby ‘White’ Mushrooms, seared in the bacon juices with a knob of butter, some of which made it into my butty! Mugs of strong/hot ‘PG’ Tips Tea helped to wash them down.

We have another glorious day down here on the ‘ Costa Del Sol’ and in sunny Manilva, the sky is cloudless and blue, there is just a very slight breeze so by lunchtime it’s due to reach 21 degs+ - overnight down to 11/12 degs, it will be very warm & sunny all day, tomorrow a little cooler, as the new  windy ‘ Atlantic’ front comes in, bringing with it some of the ‘ Wet-Stuff’ on Sunday and into the start of next week, then it’s going warmer, settled, dry and sunny with a few patchy clouds hanging around, from Tuesday onwards, hovering in the high ‘ teens’ at all times, as the breeze drops, watch this space.

Today all the celebrations for the “ Dia De Andalucia’ now take place down in the ‘ Municipal Pabellon’ down by the sports complex, it used to take place on a stage in front of the ‘Town Hall’ at the top of our street, but now it’s moved down, and takes place at noon when the ‘ Manilva Town Brass Band’ starts the celebrations, parading through the street and down to the ‘Pabellon’ and the raising of the regional flag of Andalusia, by the Mayor, Mario and the Councillors.

Meanwhile over in Liverpool they are preparing to greet the arrival of the new 65,000 tonnes “ HMS Prince of Wales “  at lunchtime on the high tide, as she steams up the River Mersey and then turns around and berths at the world famous ‘Pier Head’ for her week’s visit, she is the second ‘ Queen Elizabeth’ -class aircraft carrier and unlike most large aircraft carriers she is not fitted with catapults & arrestor wires, instead she is designed to operate ‘V/STOL’ – ‘ F-35 B Lightning 11 stealth multirole fighters!

The ' Three Queens'  earlier this morning are waiting and ready to greet the arrival of the ' HMS Prince of Wales'

On her way !

Watch this space later for all the pictures!!  See below, sadly, in rather overcast and grey Liverpool.

This lunchtime Leah & Ryan ( Miss Bella ) -asked us out for a drink, we met them ups at ' Bar Rojas Vida Sol' for a nice cool drink or two, sat in the very hot sunshine, as the world passed us by, we had a catch-up with all their news and a reminisce of times gone by, they are going to join us on Sunday, with their son 'Deemy' for our - 'St.David's Day'  roast supper! Watch this space.

For our supper this evening we are having  ‘ Goujons of Hake Fillet ‘ – coated in breadcrumbs from the local Bakery and shallow fried in Vegetable Oil until crisp & golden, served with homemade ‘Tartar’ sauce ( Brenda) and lots of Lemon Wedges, accompanied with ‘ Mushy Peas’ and triple-cooked ‘ Chips’

We are relaxing and taking things very easy today, walking the dogs in the very warm sunshine and then settling down, later after supper we will channel hop to find something to watch.
