THOUGHT FOR THE DAY;

SUNNY MANILVA ON SUNDAY

SUNDAY 30th/ JUNE 2013.

We had a nice long lie in this morning as the early sun was coming in through the shutters; it is a glorious day in sunny Manilva and the forecast for the next week is more of the same and hotter; after our tea and toast I made the ‘Boulangere Potatoes’ for tonight’s supper which we are having with Spanish Lamb Cutlets marinated in Olive Oil and Tarragon cooked on the griddle, simple vegetables from Brenda with mixed Garden Pea and Fresh Carrots and for herself Broccoli and Cauliflower florets in a Cheese sauce.

After freshening our self’s up we went for a good walk with Chispa around the outside of the village; we called into Bar Rojas for a cooling drink sat under the Sombrejo, then when we got back to the house I caught the start of the Grand Prix from Silverstone on the TV in Spanish and I’ am now following it upstairs on the PC with the BBCTV coverage; Roseberg has just won the race,Webber second,Alonso third and the drive of the day from Hamilton who is fourth after his tires exploded! I will move back downstairs to follow the Tour De France – stage 2 from Bastia in the North East of the Island across the mountains to Ajaccio on the South West coast of Corsica over 156kms

The Belgium rider won the stage,Jan Bakelant's and Chris Froome showed he is in fine form with a breakaway climb on the last mountains that left all his main rivals behind him!

Brenda is planning to go up on the roof terrace this afternoon to top up her colour and reading; I will join her later for our early evening cocktails.

The menu’s for the next week are starting to take shape; Monday I ‘am going to put together a Mixed Grill with Steak, Lamb Cutlets, Pork Fillets and Sausage, then on Tuesday we are having Pork Cutlets and it looks like Chicken Curry for Wednesday;

Tonight later on 'Telecinco' it is the final of the 'FIFA Confederations Cup' from the 'Maracana Stadium in Rio de Janerio - sadly Spain played terrible and were totally outclassed by Brazil and lost 3-0 with Pique being sent off and Ramos missing  a penalty!A stunning,breathtaking performance as Brazil won their third consecutive 'Cup' !!

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY;

SUNNY MANILVA ON SPORTS SATURDAY

SATURDAY 29th/ JUNE 2013.

This morning we have just a little breeze which at this time of the year is just right; after our tea and toast we rushed out to wash the car before it gets too hot, I then made some ‘Ensallida Ruse’ – blanched the chips for tonight’s supper all before watching ‘Saturday Morning Kitchen’ live on BBCTV1 small PC on full-screen, at the same time on the large PC on my sports channel connection I was able to follow the second test over in Melbourne between Australia and the British & Irish Lions, sadly the Lions lost 16-15!

Then it was time for the qualifying at the British Grand Prix at Silverstone back on BBCTV1 on the small PC, Hamilton is on pole for tomorrow’s race; meanwhile downstairs on the TV it was the three races at Assen in the Motor GP series,Valentino Rossi ( The Doctor ) and seven-times ‘MotoGP’ champion claimed his first win since 2010 as Jorge Lorenzo took fifth despite his broken collarbone, this after he crashed on Thursday, flew to Spain on Friday for a operation and then came back to Holland today and passed the medical to enable him to ride!

Now downstairs on the TDP Channel I ‘am watching the first stage of the ‘Tour De France’ in Corsica as on my sports channel on the large PC I could only get coverage in Dutch, German or Russian!

Well what a finish as the German sprinter Marcl Kittel crosses the line first and also takes the Yellow jersey; in the last 10kms there was crashes and total choas as most of the leading riders were held up including Mark Cavendish,meanwhile on the finish line as the riders came into Bastia one of the Tour coaches broke down on the finish line and brought down the electronic timing,see the picture above -what was the coach doing on the route anyway? In the end they had to push the coach backwards off the line with the help of the crowds !!Utter pandemonium and a big anti-climax !!! The race organisers are saying everyone will be credited with the same time - watch this space! Now there are reports of injuries to riders starting to appear on the news page!!

Mano and Anna called in at lunchtime for a good chat and gossip, the hot topic at the moment is that the Mayor Antonia and 6/7 councilors have been forced to resign from the ‘IU’- Communist Party as she is being investigated by the Guardia Civil (Allegedly! ) for corruption and nepotism !! Watch this space for more details in is what a typically ‘Spanish’ happening !! Good news for Mano is that he is going back to the Manilva Green Apart hotel to work on reception next week

Brenda is up on the roof terrace, out of the way of my ‘Sports Chanting’ as she says and is reading her latest ‘Patterson’ I have maintained my weight loss and the blood pressure is OK,it must be all the running up and downstairs between the three screens !!

Tonight for supper we are back to our Saturday night special of Steak and chips with all the trimmings, then catching the late film.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY;

BACK IN THE OLD ROUTINE IN SUNNY MANILVA

THURSDAY 27th/ JUNE 2013.

Well today we are back into our old routine around the house; Brenda is mopping and cleaning and I’ am in the office out of the way with the dog on the WWW!  We have just come back from a long walk around the village, we called into the post office to post a birthday card, and watch out it could be you! I then went in next door to the new ‘IT’ shop and enquired after ink cartridges for the Epson printer, they have compatible ones at half the price – result!

They have really got on with new side walk and railings along Calle Cruces over the last week and will soon be starting the new ‘Mirador’ below; the village ‘Dairy’ was just receiving a local delivery as you can see above and the work on the church is progressing well, they have put back up the top on the tower.’ Plaza Pozo del Rey’ is having all the finishening touches and is taking shape very quickly now – see the picture Blog above.

Later this morning I was back in the kitchen making a batch of my famous ‘Tomato Salsa’ which we use for Pasta, Meatballs, and Ratatouille and as a sauce with all sorts of meats; then I blanched the chips for tonight’s supper with Egg and Sausages and finally I have just made a classic ‘Turkey Fricassee’ with the leftovers along with some diced Green and Yellow Peppers in a rich Tarragon cream sauce! Ummmmmmmmm!

“ FILMS ON TV ”

Over the last two nights we have also been watching late films on the Movie Channel and TVE1; a Steven Spielberg directed film was first called “Catch me if you can”from 2002, it is a American Biographical crime story based on the life of ‘Frank Abagnale’who before his 19th birthday successfully performed cons worth millions of dollars posing as a airline pilot, doctor and even a state prosecutor! The main part is played by Leonardo DiCaprio and the FBI agent chasing him is Tom Hanks with Christopher Walken,Martin Sheen and James Brolin – it’s a good yarn with a twist at the end!

The second film that I caught later was “Johnson County Wars ” from 2002 also; based on historical facts about the range wars in Wyoming in 1892 – it has a “ Helluva” cast of Tom Berenger as the goodie, Luke Perry, Burt Reynolds as the baddie,Christopher Cazenove,Fay Masterson and the very watch able Rachel Ward as the tart with a heart! It is a long film that gradually builds up to a dramatic shoot out – don’t miss it!

PS; The folks arrived home and on time back in Manchester yesterday afternoon and have had good rest before Jack and Lyn set off on their travels again – watch this space to see where they end up this time!

PPS; We have just received in the afternoon post two more birthday cards from North Wales; Judith and Wesley,thank you so much and have a " Helluva" Wedding on Saturday! The other card was a 'Welsh' birthday card that has made Brenda's day - 'Penblwydd Hapus 60!' from Patrick and Beth with lots of sparkle/glitter things dropping out all over the place!! Thanks to all for remembering my special day!!

Why you may ask,well to cut a long story short they had met a lady back home in Melbourne who was born in Llanelian !! How they found it is still a mystery !!

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY;

SUNNY MANILVA AND GIBRALTAR TODAY

WEDNESDAY 26th/ JUNE 2013.

We were up bright and early this morning and collected the folks for the final time from their apartment at Manilva Green; we went down the coast past Sotogrande to Gibraltar to drop them off at the border to go across to the new airport, Brenda went with them and saw them checked in for their flight back to Manchester – see the picture below, Jack and Lyn have three more weeks in England before they fly back to Melbourne on the 19th/ July, they are hiring another car and setting off down south. We have really enjoyed having them all here in sunny Manilva and wish them all ‘Good Health and Happiness’ for the future. Just as we arrived in Gibraltar the large liner was docking at the harbor sea terminal as you see below.

The hire car has just been collected so we have been for a long walk around the village to catch up all the works; ‘Plaza Pozo del Rey’ is nearly there, this morning they have taken down the shuttering and so I was able to get some pictures of the progress as you can see above, the steps we think will have a fountain at the top and they have put Marble surrounds on all the planters, the railings have gone up and they are starting to clear and make good around the outside. Just around the corner the ‘Pensionistas Club’ is open and back in business with a new tile sign outside.

We have sorted ourselves out in the house and have got things back to normal; it is going to be very strange and quite around here – we are missing them all – all ready! Tonight we have Cold Turkey with a fry-up of the vegetables and Potatoes for supper and will then catch up with outside world news and then find a film to watch,back to our ‘Tranquil’ life in sunny Manilva!! Tomorrow night we are having for dinner Sausage, Egg and Chips for a change after all the culinary delights that we have had here and out about on the ‘Costa del Sol

Thought for the Day; See above, this one is for Brenda.
