THOUGHTS FOR THE DAY FROM SUNNY MANILVA;

A VERY HOT AND SUNNY MANILVA ON THURSDAY;

THURSDAY 31st/JULY 2014.

Yesterday by lunchtime the sun had broken through and the breeze as forecast dropped; by the afternoon is was very hot and in the evening it stayed warm and close which meant that we had a long and warm night ahead!

‘Scruffy’ has settled in very well and is eating all his food and drinking water, when he goes to the large bowl he puts one foot in and then drinks! We walk him four times a day, just short walks along Calle Mar and back so he has his spots to leave messages!( Bagged!) At night he prefers to sleep under our bed on the marble floor instead of in his executive bed.

This morning ‘Reina’ was dropped off for the day before she comes back tomorrow for her sleep-over weekend; they are no problem together now that they know one another, at the moment Reina is sat in my secretaries chair by the side of my desk as I’ am typing the Blog and ‘Scruffy’ is sat under my feet in his favorite spot!

We have just come back from a walk along Calle Mar on the shady side of the street; we sat on one of the benches and took in the sights, sounds and smells, the ‘Rotisserie Chicken’ shop was just starting up so we have ordered one for later!

At lunchtime we had a nice surprise as we had a call from Kathrin to say that she was on her way over to Manilva with her husband Bruno who we have not met and would we like to join them for a little late lunch; we ended up down at 'Bodegon Andaluz'where we had a very nice tapas lunch and drink looked after by Andreas - so we have had a good catch up and chat and are looking forward to seeing them again tomorrow evening.They brought their dog 'Alfie' along so we ended up with the three dogs sat under our feet ,all behaving very well!

This morning after breakfast I had a quick shave & shower, as I opened the shower curtains I had a little surprise; three dogs sat waiting to see me, not two as ‘Chispa’ had come calling, left to right in size - ‘Reina,Chispa & Scruffy’!!! “ Doggy World Heaven ” is open for business!

So today we are having a nice relaxing day at home catching up with the chores about the house, Brenda is pottering and I’ am up in the office taking in the WWW as you can see.This evening for supper it's 'Omelet's' as we are saving ourselves to tomorrow nights "Meat Extravaganza" with Claus & Doreen down at their villa with Bruno & Kathrin.

Last night after supper we had the choice of three films to watch; “ A Perfect Murder” from 1998 with Michael Douglas, Gwyneth Paltrow & Viggo Morteensen – “ What Lies Beneath ” from 2000 with Harrison Ford & Michelle Pfeiffer and “ Guilty As Sin ”from 1993 with Rebecca De Mornay & Don Johnson !!! You wait all week and then three come along - typical! We watched the first one and then the ends of the other two!! All murder's at the ends !!!

" CALLE SAN VICENTE " IN A VERY HOT AND SUNNY MANILVA AT LUNCHTIME;

" SEVILLE MUSEUM FLAMENCO SHOW " LAST NIGHT;

THOUGHTS FOR THE DAY FROM SUNNY MANILVA;

A VERY STICKY AND CLOSE SUNNY MANILVA ON WEDNESDAY;

WEDNESDAY 30th/ JULY 2014.

We were up sharp this morning and shot down to Sabinillas to do the weekly shop after a quick breakfast; we then came back up to the house to unload and then shot down again to Sabinillas to go to the bank and then drop Brenda off at the hairdressers for the ‘Full Works’

Today is starting overcast and rather clammy but no doubt the sun will break through later as forecast; the weather over the weekend and into next week is getting hotter especially during the night.

‘Scruffy’ is due later after I have picked Brenda up from the hairdressers, for a two day sleep-over which we are looking forward too, he’s no problem and very good company; ‘Reina’ is here on Thursday and then returns on Friday morning for her two day sleep-over as it’s Lee & Daniela’s wedding weekend!

The news from the folks in Seville is that they have had a very good time exploring the side streets, viewing Art Galleries etc.and taking in the sights and sounds including a visit to the oldest Bull Ring in the World( See the pictures below) and watching a very fine and exciting ‘Flamenco Show’ at the ‘Flamenco Museum’ last night,see the pictures above, their hotel was in the centre of the old part of city, no reports as of yet on the Food & Drink?! It shows what their priororaties are as opposed to ours!!

Tonight for supper we having the ‘Chicken Wings’ pan-fried on the griddle and served with Baked Potato, Mixed salad and a dipping sauce on the side. We will then catch up with all the news, sport and weather updates before settling down to find something to watch.

" PLAZA DE TOROS DE LA REAL MAESTRANZA DE CABALLERIA DE SEVILLA " THIS AFTERNOON;

THOUGHTS FOR THE DAY FROM SUNNY MANILVA;

A VERY WINDY BUT STILL HOT AND SUNNY MANILVA ON TUESDAY;

TUESDAY 29th/ JULY 2014.

We had a nice roll-over lie in this morning as it’s our last chance this week as we are busy with ‘Doggy World Heaven’ right up to Sunday; yesterday evening and then later during the night an un-forecasted strong wind got up which rattled the shutters and generally made a lot of noise down our street which acts as a funnel in either direction.

It’s still warm and sunny which is the most important thing, the stiff breeze makes it rather pleasant. The forecast for the rest of the week is more of the same and as the wind drops it’s getting hotter again; yesterday up in the Barcelona region they had cloud bursts and floods, the back end of what has been hitting England over the weekend.

So today it’s an at home day getting ourselves up to date, Brenda is washing, drying and ironing as well as cleaning, polishing and tidying – it’s another ‘Ing!’ day in sunny Manilva; meanwhile I’ am up in the office on the WWW. putting the world to rights! We had our weekly menu planning meeting this morning, the ‘Ing’s!’ have started again!

I’ve just come back from the butchers and greengrocers with some very nice ‘Pork Chops’ cut English style and fresh local Campo Red and Green Peppers; I’ am grilling the Pork Chops and making ‘Breton style Potatoes with the peppers, the vegetable department is producing Cabbage with fresh local Campo Alselgas and Carrot Batons with Ginger to go with the chops, on the side will be some of yesterdays Tomato salsa. Tomorrow night we are having pan-fried Chicken Wings with a dipping sauce, Baked Potato and Mixed salad.

On Thursday its ‘Omelet’ night and then on Friday we are out for an early dinner at Claus & Doreen’s villa with Bruno & Kathrin joining the party as they have arrived from England after a memorable journey down to the ‘Costa Del Sol’ – on the menu is “ Tapfelspitz mit Meerrettichsosse ” – we can’t wait – it’s meat as they have ordered it from their butchers in Estepona market!

At lunchtime Mano & Anna called in for a chat and gossip.

At the moment ‘Chispa’ is playing around my feet up in the office, she comes calling most days and at this time of the year she also comes crashing in later on in the evening when we least expect it, the door is always open so she rushes in and jumps across the two settees onto our laps – without us hearing her coming! Sadly we are not able to take her for long walks around the village at the moment but she does join us with ‘Scruffy’ or ‘Reina’ for their walks. See the pictures below of the three dogs in our life here in “ Doggy World Heaven ” !!

" CALLE SAN VICENTE " BALMY MANILVA THIS EVENING;

" MANILVA'S THEATER GROUP " ON STAGE YESTERDAY EVENING;

THOUGHTS FOR THE DAY FROM SUNNY MANILVA;

A VERY HOT AN SUNNY MANILVA ON MONDAY AT THE START OF THE WEEK;

MONDAY 28th / JULY 2014.

No lie in this morning for the wicked as we have things to do and places to go; ‘Reina’ was dropped off for the day so after breakfast we went for a walk along Calle Mar and Brenda called into the chemists to collect all her heart prescription tablets.

This morning after typing and posting the Blog I’ am making a fresh batch of my famous ‘Tomato Salsa’

Last night after supper which we all really enjoyed and after we had cleared up we went up to watch the start of the local senior ‘Theater Group’s’ production on the stage in front of the whole village; our local councilor Mario and his sister in law, her husband and their daughter Marta, all from our street were in the play, see the pictures above thanks to Antonia the Mayor.

At the ‘Hungarian Grand Prix’ yesterday it was one of the most thrilling races so far this season as Lewis Hamilton stole the headlines after he started in the pit lane, last, hit the wall on his first lap and ignored team orders to let Rosberg pass him ( rightly so!) to end up third!! Daniel Ricciardo (Australian) won after a passing Alonso with three laps to go.

Over in Paris in the final day of the ‘Tour De France’ the Italian rider Vincenzo Nibali duly won his third Grand Tour ie.Italy Spain and France!!

No plans so far this week as we are waiting to hear when ‘Reina’ is with us again this week,it's going to be Thursday before the wedding at the weekend when she is with us on a sleep-over on Friday and Saturday and also when ‘Scruffy’ is coming back?! Rose has just called and he's coming for a sleep-over on Wednesday and Thursday. Brenda has an appointment at the hairdressers down in Sabinillas on Wednesday morning so we are going to do the shopping before.

The weather forecast is still looking good, what else could it be at this time of the year, with lots of sunshine and very hot over the coming weekend.

The late film when we came back from watching a little of the play was the epic ‘Civic War’ drama written and directed by Anthony Minghelia “Cold Mountain” from 2003 with a mega-cast of stars, Jude Law, Nicole Kidman, Rene Zellweger, who won an ‘Oscar’ for ‘Best Supporting Actress’ Natalie Portman, the late Phillip Seymour Hoffman, Donald Sutherland, Brenden Gleeson, Ray Winstone, Kath Baker and Jack White (The White Stripes!)  Don’t miss it!!

 For tonight’ supper we are using all the left over from last night’s extravaganza to make an ‘Hors’d'oeuvre Platter!’ – Now that reminds us of our very famous ‘Hors,d’oeuvre Trolley’back in the days of the ‘Hotel Seventy Degrees!!’ See the picture above. Later we will catch up with all the news, sport and weather updates.

THOUGHTS FOR THE DAY FROM SUNNY MANILVA;

A VERY HOT AND SUNNY MANILVA ON SUNDAY ( HANG - OVER - DAY ! )

SUNDAY 27th/ JULY 2014.

I was up first this morning and took Scruffy for his morning ‘Constitutional’ as the Council Cleansing Department were staring the big task of cleaning Calle Mar; the party went on until 4-00am this morning when the band stopped playing on the stage at the top of our street!

Scruffy is being collected this morning and will no doubt be back some time next week, meanwhile ‘Reina’ is here on Monday, possibly another day and then on Friday for the weekend as Lee & Daneila get married! Last night on his final walk of the day I bumped into Jan & Brian and asked after ‘Charlie’ who is on some medication to help him feel better, he’s going to be back with us in September for a few days which is great news!

The weather forecast for the week ahead is very good with more of the same, very hot and sunny with no breeze and warm during the night, so no difference then to normal! No plans for the week ahead at the moment so it’s back to our regular routine of sleeping, eating and drinking in our life down here on the ‘Costa Del Sol!’- It’s a hard life but we will survive!!

Meanwhile down in the ‘Work House’ ( kitchen!) my very able assistant is busy preparing the ingredients for another batch of our famous ‘Ensaladilla Rusa’ – then tomorrow morning its time for me to make my equally famous ‘Tomato Salsa’

This evening Den & Josie are joining us for an early supper as they are ‘jetting-off’ - well bus & ‘shanks pony’ to Seville for a couple of days to take in the sights,sounds,food and cultures of the hottest city in Spain – 38degs and rising! So this evening we are having some light Tapas to start with and I will then disappear to the kitchen to make to order ( non-stop stirring!) another of our classics “ Smoked Chicken & Broad Bean Risotto”

This afternoon it’s the final stage 21 of the ‘Tour De France’ ( Thank God says Josie!) as it goes from ‘Evry to Paris and the Champs Elysees’ – barring an accident the Italian rider Nibali has won to add to his third win of a ‘Grand Tour’ – Spain & Italy also! Over in Hungary at the ‘Grand Prix’ Lewis Hamilton starts at the back of the grid after his car caught fire yesterday when qualifying!!

PS; This evening on the main stage in front of the Town Hall at the top of our street there is performance by the senior local 'Theater Group' at 10-00pm to bring the week to a close.
