THOUGHTS FOR THE DAY FROM SUNNY MANILVA;

..

A BREEZY, WARM & SUNNY MANILVA ON FRIDAY AT THE START OF THE WEEKEND.

FRIDAY 30th / SEPTEMBER 2016.

We were both up very early this morning, I shot out on my travels and Brenda saw ‘ Reina’ back with us for the day, I called into our local surgery to drop off some documents for our Doctor, she later rang us to adjust one of Brenda's tablets after reading the 'Kidney' report from Monday, she has confirmed that Brenda has 'severe' Kidney damage, as the 'Internal Medicine Consultant' did also and checked about next weeks appointment for the special blood tests as well as the 'Ecogram' followed by the appointment with the 'Kidney Consultant' Watch this space.

I then carried on down to Sabinillas, as the full red sun was coming up over the sparkling Mediterranean, I then stopped at the main surgery, which is always very busy, you need a ticket to make an appointment, I’ve got to have a special blood test for my blood pressure & prostrate readings, its means that next Friday morning I’m at our surgery at 8-00 am and then down at the main surgery at 8-36 am!

 I then had a quick cup of tea & toast before ‘ Mercadona’ opened. I then picked up the local newspapers from the ‘English Bookshop’ before going along to the local market at the far end of the promenade for the fresh flowers, I stopped at the garage to top up the petrol and put the car through the car wash ready for our trip out on Sunday with Lee & Daniela to ‘ Kokomo’ for Sunday lunch; finally I made my way to Super Sol’ for the English essentials.

For this evenings supper we are having ‘ Goujons’ of Hake Fillet ‘ with Mushy Peas & twice-cooked ‘ Frits’ Tomorrow night is ‘ Steak Night ‘ and then on Sunday it’s the ‘ Chef’s & Staff’ day off!

We are taking things easy for the rest of day, Brenda is catching up with her washing as it’s a good drying day, the sun was out early and the sky is bright blue, there is a stiff breeze, making is very pleasant as its still warm for the time of the year ( October 1st tomorrow!) The weekend is looking settled & fine and next week we are in for more of the same, at the moment.

Yesterday evening after supper we channel hopped before watching the next episode of  ‘ Paranoid ‘ – the police drama/thriller is about a murder in a rural town in Yorkshire, it is also about a conspiracy, there has also been a suspected suicide/murder & a suspicious death over in Germany of the lady doctor’s husband, that was murdered at the start, the three detectives, two men and one lady all have personal problems/history as they attempt to find the killer.

The head of the department is a older senior detective who is old fashioned and thinks he has solved the case, he hasn’t, and in the background all the time there is a mysterious stranger in a hood lurking around, sending them clues and even interviewing the people involved, pretending to be a detective?! At the very end of this week’s very compelling and gripping story line there was a very gruesome and surprise attempted murder of one of the main characters who was thrown from the top of a high bridge by the hooded man, watch this space!

THOUGHTS FOR THE DAY FROM SUNNY MANILVA;

..

A WARM & SUNNY MANILVA ON THURSDAY;

THURSDAY 30th / SEPTEMBER 2016.

After seeing ‘ Reina’ back with us for the day I treated us to my special ‘ Smoked Bacon Butties’ smothered in ‘HP’ sauce for breakfast, I have my appointment  at the surgery with our Doctor for the results of all of the tests etc at lunchtime, watch this space.

Well it's good news all round, four of my readings have improved dramatically, Kidneys, Blood Glucose, Diabetic levels & ECG! My blood pressure levels are still being monitored and I'm back for a check up next Friday morning after further blood tests, at the same time my Doctor has adjusted/downgraded my prescription tablets and prescribed a new one!

We have another fine & settled day, the sun is just breaking through and there is a little pleasant breeze, the rest of week and over the weekend is looking warm & sunny, the threatened rain is just about keeping away, at the moment! See below the sunrise down in Sabinillas this morning.

This evening we are having for our supper the rest of the ‘ Lamb Casserole’ with a fry-up of the vegetables & potatoes, the weekend menus have yet to be selected.

Yesterday evening we received an E-Mail from our dear friends and old customers, Terry & Alma, who live in France, an hour outside Caen, they were telling us about their village ‘ Fougerolles Du Plessis ‘ as it was featured on a BBC TV programme the other week, one of the ‘ Hairy Bikers’ – Dave Myers – has a house in the village and lives there, it was shown on the ‘ French’ episode of their new show.

He invited locals in and cooked them Chicken!  I wrote about the episode on the Blog as they went to the  ‘Gastronomic Capital’ of Lyon and started  at our favourite restaurant from many years ago “ George Blanc at Vonnas “ They pass the house every day and meet him in the local supermarket and have spoken to him, it’s a ‘ Small World ‘ !!

Last night after supper we watched ‘ The Great British Bake Off ‘ before catching the next episode of ‘ DCI Banks’ – it was very gripping and harrowing as one of his team, a lady Detective Sergeant, who happens to be his new love interest, was mugged/stabbed/murdered and died, they then broke into various properties, chased the main suspect killer, who crashed his van in a spectacular fashion, in the end ‘ DCI Banks’ was suspended after he threatened the master villain, it will end in next week’s episode!

                                                                                 Every day for breakfast!  " Platano De Canaries "

THOUGHTS FOR THE DAY FROM SUNNY MANILVA;

..

A WARM & SUNNY MANILVA ON WEDNESDAY;

WEDNESDAY 28th / SEPTEMBER 2016.

As usual I was up first this morning to welcome back little  ‘Princess Reina’ back with us here in ‘ Doggy World Heaven ‘ for the day; she shot upstairs and went to sleep on her duvet, Brenda got up in her own time and showered, I’m showering later, we then had our usual breakfast of ‘ Weetabix’ fresh fruit, toast & tea.

I then made this evenings supper “ Lamb Steak, Mushroom & Vegetable Casserole” – using Spanish ‘ Cordero ‘ Steaks which I marinated in Olive Oil & Tarragon over night, I then brown them off on the griddle plate, the sauce is made with diced Onions & Garlic, Leeks, Carrots, Turnips, Celery, Green Beans & Mushrooms, all sweated off with my secret ingredients, then Tomato Frito and good strong Chicken & Vegetable Stock is added before adjusting the seasoning and consistency, I then coat the steaks with the sauce in the casserole dish ready to go in this oven this evening, Brenda is making a dish of her famous ‘Mashed Potato’ with finely sliced Green Beans & Baby Brussels Sprouts, for a change! See below.

The morning started a little overcast but its picking up and by lunchtime the sun is due to break through, it’s still warm and sunny and the night are now a little cooler, the rest of week is staying the same and the weekend is looking calm & warm also, the threatened rain being blown down from the North by the ‘ Levante’ wind is just missing us here down on the ‘ Costa Del Sol’ at the moment, watch this space.

See the pictures below of this morning’s  spectacular ‘Red’ sunrise over Colwyn Bay & Liverpool, on the BBC TVs ‘Breakfast’ Show they featured more pictures from around the country!

After supper last night we watched ‘The Hairy Bikers Chicken and Egg’ – this week they were in the ‘USA’ on ‘Southern Fried Chicken, Pancakes & Buffalo Wings’- nest week they are going to Israel. Next it was the excellent programme ‘ Great Continental Railway Journeys’ with Michael Portillo, he travelled from the Swiss Alps to the shores of Lake Geneva, next week he’s in Morocco.

I did the same rail journey back in 1959 with my Dad & Mum, I still to this day don’t know how my Dad managed to arrange/plan it! Over ten years from the age of five to fifteen we visited, all by train, Belgium, Holland, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Spain, France, Italy & Yugoslavia!

Finally it was ‘ Later Live... with Jools Holland, his usual mix of all sorts of music with Barry Gibb singing his latest version of ‘Jive Talkin’ and Norah Jones, the daughter of the late Ravi Shanker, the world famous ‘  ‘Sitar’ player, I first met him when he came to play at the ‘Philharmonic Hall,  in Liverpool, as the guest of ‘The Beatles’ and stayed at the ‘ Stork Hotel’ back in the mid 60s!  Jools joined Norah Jones as she sang her new track, he played the ‘ Hammond Organ’ as she was on the piano.

NEWS UPDATE;  – RE - THE MISSING ‘BIRTHDAY’ CARDS.

I then went down to our local Post Office to formally report the missing Birthday Cards, five/six from England & one from Australia, the lady Post Mistress took all my details as I explained that they were all regular senders and had sent them in plenty of time, 2/3 weeks before the date, they all had the correct address as they had sent them many time’s before! She is contacting the main Post office down in SabinIllas and then Malaga, she is also going to report it to the responsible person, finally if there is no joy we are going to put a complaint form in!! Watch this space.

We have a ' RESULT ' - our Post Lady has just delivered the missing seven cards, including a Post Card, which she has found down in the main Post Office in Sabinillas! See below - thanks to all!!

When I came back I then treated us to ‘ Smoked Bacon Butties’ with mugs of steaming, strong, tea for breakfast. I then went along to the Chemists in ‘ Calle Mar’ for my prescription tablets, I then carried on down to our local Butchers, for this evenings supper I bought ‘ Escalope’s of Chicken Breast ‘ which he cuts off the fresh local Chickens, I also had him slice some ‘Escalope’s’ of Liver’ for another day and all the Chicken Wings off the Chickens!

While I was coming up Calle Iglaise the lady from the ‘Dress’ shop was putting out a rail of various dresses/tops etc – all for 5 Euros- Brenda has just shot off to see if she can find a bargain! She’s returned with two tops and a pair of light silky trousers and is going back for more!!

For this evening supper we are having the ‘Grilled Escalope’s of Chicken Breast’ finished in a Lime & Balsamic Vinegar Butter with on the side some finally sliced Green Beans and sautéed thick-cut slices of Baked Potato. For tomorrow night’s ‘ Wednesday Special’ I’m making a “ Lamb Steak, Mushroom & Vegetable ‘Tarragon’ Casserole “

After a dull start to the day it’s picking up and the sun is just breaking through, as forecast, it’s still warm and the rest of the week is staying the same, there is a ‘ Levante’ sea breeze bring some of the wet stuff down from Northern Spain but it will not reach us down here on the ‘ Costa Del Sol’ – fingers crossed, as we are going out on Sunday with Lee & Daniela to our favourite lunchtime restaurant ‘ Kokomo’ for their excellent Sunday Roast Lunch, to celebrate Lee & my Birthdays!

Yesterday afternoon/early evening we watched all the various ‘Quiz’ shows and then after supper we caught the next episode of  ‘ Cold Feet ‘ which has all sorts of story lines, love, sex, death, money, police etc!
