THOUGHTS FOR THE DAY FROM SUNNY MANILVA;

A WARM AND SUNNY MANILVA ON TUESDAY;

TUESDAY 30th/ SEPTEMBER 2014.

Up early this morning as little princess ‘Reina’ was dropped off for the day, she’s back on Thursday, at the moment ‘Chispa’is hopefully under ‘house arrest’ as it’s that time of the year! Every loose ‘dog’ in the village comes looking for her, they leave messages, much to Brenda’s disgust, outside our front door and we can’t take her for a walk! We are waiting to hear when ‘Scruffy’ is back with us,

After our breakfast we took ‘Reina’for a walk and I called into the butchers for a Breast of Local Chicken that he slices into Escalops,we are having them tonight pan-fried in foaming Lemon Butter with a dash of Balsamic Vinegar, finely sliced Green Beans and Sautéed thick-cut slices of Baked Potato –simple but nice!

Its fine and warm this morning but still a little overcast, it goes nicer in the afternoon as the sun brakes through, at the moment the rest of Spain has rain storms and colder weather, down here on the ‘Costa Del Sol’ its still warm and sunny with the temperatures staying at 26/28degs for the week.

In October we have some appointments over at the hospital, I’m first with my six month ‘Prostrate’ check up next Wednesday and then Brenda for some Eye tests towards the end of the month, we are waiting to hear about Brenda’s three month ‘Heart’ check up, if we have nor heard by next week we will chase it up when we are at the hospital on Wednesday!

We are now settling down to reading in the afternoons/early evenings before our ‘Happy Hour’ – we will exchange some books this week at the English Bookshop when we go down on Friday for our weekly shopping; we are also both due for haircuts so we are planning a morning over in Estepona so as I can go to the barbers, we also need a new rug for the ‘chill out’ room so we can call into the large bedroom store at the same time, we then have to find a slot to get Brenda down to Sabinillas for the ‘full works’ at her hairdressers! Sooner then later I’m told!!

Tonight after supper there is some ‘Champions League’ football on TVE1 – PSG v Barcelona, then we will find something to watch.

Thoughts for the Day; See above.

" SANTA ANA CHURCH " 'POLICE SAINTS DAY' MONDAY MORNING;

THOUGHTS FOR THE DAY FROM SUNNY MANILVA;

A VERY CLOSE AND SUNNY MANILVA ON MONDAY AT THE START OF THE WEEK;

MONDAY 29th/ SEPTEMBER 2014.

No lie in this morning as I had things to do and places to go! After a quick breakfast I shot along to the chemists for my precriptions, only one problem they are out of date! So I’ve made an appointment at the surgery to update them ASAP.

Next I went around to the Santa Ana Church as today its the ‘Patron Saint of Police’ day and there was a Mass followed by a glass of wine in the Wine Centre and lunch to follow at the Manilva Green Apart hotel, Antonia the Mayor very kindly asked us to join them. I gratefully declined as Brenda is still not able to walk so far at the moment.

All the local Chiefs of Police, the National Police and the Guardia Civil from all the local villages and towns were there in their full dress uniforms as well as the Mayor and Civic dignitaries, See the pictures above.

Today it’s very close and a little overcast but the forecast for the rest of the week is good with no rain, yesterday it went very hot and sunny in the afternoon but just along the coast in Mijas Playa they had severe floods!

Meanwhile back at the house Brenda was getting on with the cleaning, polishing, washing, drying and ironing, no rest for the wicked – she says she gets on with it better when I’m not around! Before I went out we had our Menu planning meeting for the week ahead.

Tonight we are having ‘Minute Entrecote Steak’ with twice-cooked Frits and topped with fried Campo Eggs, then tomorrow its going to be ‘Escallop of Chicken Breast’ pan-fried in foaming Lemon Butter with finely sliced Green Beans and thick-cut sautéed Baked Potato, Wednesday its time for the classic dish of the week “ Lancashire Hot Pot ” Omelet of choice on Thursday and fish on Friday followed by Saturday ‘Steak Night’ and a ‘Roast’ on Sunday (TBC!)

Just a quick update on the sports front, Europe beat the USA in the Ryder Cup 16 – 11( I can not find halves!) and at the ‘World Championship Road Race’ the Elite Men’s race was won by the Polish rider Kwiatkowski, when he slipped the two main contenders on the final climb, Gerrans and Valverde were not paying attention, and he raced down the wet and dangerous decent in the town!

In the late afternoon we watched a film with Richard Gere,Julia Ormond and Sean Connery “ First Knight” from 1995 – i.e. Lancelot,Guinevere and King Arthur!!  Then later after supper it was “ Fast and Furious 5”  with all the action taking place in Rio De Janeiro with Vin Diesel,Paul Walker,Dwayne Johnson( The Rock!) Jordan Brensa and Elsa Patsky – we haven’t see ‘1-4’ but the all action car chases are unbeavlable to say the least!!

Thoughts for Day; See above.

THOUGHTS FOR THE DAY FROM SUNNY MANILVA;

A STILL WARM AND SUNNY MANILVA ON SUNDAY;

SUNDAY 28th/ SEPTEMBER 2014.

A nice lie was called for this morning and that’s exactly what we did! Overnight we had a few showers but the forecast for today and into next week is dry with a little breeze but the sun will be out and the temperatures will hover on the 24/25degs mark.

So this morning for breakfast I treated us to fried Campo Eggs with crisp Smoked Bacon to finish off the week of celebrations as we started! Chefs day off today so no roasting, later I will walk to the ‘Rotisserie Shop and pick up a whole Spit- Roasted Chicken for supper which we will have with a Mixed salad.

Next week here in’ Doggy World Heaven’ little princess ‘Reina’ is with us on Tuesday & Thursday and we are waiting to hear when ‘Scruffy’ will be back with us, meanwhile ‘Chispa’ comes calling most mornings and evenings, she’s here at the moment running in and out and playing in the street with the small children opposite.

Brenda is just about to shampoo and wash her hair as I’m typing the Blog; we have no plans for next week, so far, so it’s back to the old routine for now! Talking of which the ‘Queen of Skelton’ has returned to her winter ‘Palace’ on Thursday from Donegal and the highlight of her and her ‘Consorts’ weekend was when they went across to the local ‘All Saints’ church in the village and took some ‘Rubbings?!’ of the ‘Emmeron ?!’ headstones! They have also been ‘Ridge’ walking at the ‘Old Alum Mines’ – all this is called living on the ‘Dangerous’ side of life in Skelton!! Enjoy – as they say whatever makes you happy!!

On the menu front next weeks the main classic ‘Dish of the Day will be on Wednesday when I’m going to prepare and cook my own special version/recipe of good old “Lancashire Hot Pot” with lots of pickled local Red Cabbage, I will use local Spanish Lamb Chuletas – Cutlets’ and two English Lamb steaks that I have been saving for the right occasion! The difference in my recipe is that I use lots of vegetables in the layers of finely sliced, by hand, Potatoes & Onions!

On the sports front at the moment on the TDP Sports Channel they are showing the ‘Men’s Elite Road Race’ from the “ World Championships” in Ponferrada, it’s a 254kms circuit race over so 14 laps, yesterday  in the Women’s race the two main contenders England’s Lizzie Armistead and Holland’s Marianne Vos, the multi winning Champion, were in the lead on the final 500mtrs but made the classic ‘Beginners’ mistake of watching one another and were overtaken by the pelaton(pack) and the young French rider Pauline Prevet took the ‘Rainbow’ winners jersey!

In the 'Aragon Motor GP' it was very exciting when the conditions changed from dry to wet,this means that the riders can come into the pits and change bikes, so they go back out on wet tires,not on slick dry ones! Lorenzo won when Marquez stayed on dry tires and slipped off !

Last night after watching the news, sports highlights and weather forecast we channel hopped and watched nothing in particular!

" KINNAREE THAI RESAURANTE " DUQUESA MARINA ON FRIDAY EVENING;

" CASTILLO DE LA DUQUESA " FRIDAY EVENING;

THOUGHTS FOR THE DAY FROM SUNNY MANILVA;

A RATHER OVERCAST SUNNY MANILVA ON SATURDAY;

SATURDAY 27TH/ SEPTEMBER 2014.

This morning we were rudely awoken by the sound of the gas-bottle delivery man blowing his horn! We turned over and had a slight lie in! It’s not looking like a very nice day as its overcast at the moment and some rain is forecast for later as the latest front/depression crosses over us. (It’s still warm!)

We had a very nice night out last night starting down at the ‘Castillo de la Duquesa’ and the Council presentation; the first ‘Act’ on the stage was ‘Daneila’singing for her opening number “My Guy” by Mary Wells, so that was a good start, I was up singing and dancing right away! It was then the time for the Mayor Antonia and Diego, the councilor to give their welcome speeches translated by Valentina.

It was an open bar of wine and soft drinks along with much better ‘Paella’ than last time! Then the next ‘Act’ on was a husband & wife duo who’s opening number was “ Under the Boardwalk” by Ben E King and the Drifters, I was up once again this time leading the singing and dancing and I’m told by Brenda making a show of myself!! See the picture below taken by the Mayor  and see the picture above.

We then headed over to Duquesa Marina which was still rather busy and after struggling to fide somewhere to park we arrived at the ‘ Kinnaree Thai’ restaurant; we managed to get the best table in the house in the corner with windows overlooking the marina, our G&Ts and B & Cs duly arrived and we then ordered; to start we had Springrolls, Chicken Wan Tan and the steamed Pork Dim-Sum ( the stars!)

To follow Brenda had King Prawns with Chilli,Lemongrass and Basil Leaves and a side bowl of Thai Rice Noodles with Vegetables; My choice was the ‘ Massamen Gung’ – King Prawns in the hottest *** Curry sauce and a bowl of the house special ‘Three Delight’ fried rice with Ham, Chicken and Pork!! Brenda had a half-bottle of ‘Torres Vina Sol’ See the picture above.

Sat next to us was a very nice couple that we soon got talking too, Fred & Jan were on holiday staying at a villa just along the coast, they live in Jersey for nine months of the year and then three months over in Cape Town – very nice talking to them.

This morning I’m watching ‘Saturday Kitchen Live’ on the smaller PC as I’m typing the Blog; later I’m making a large bowl of my famous ‘Ensaladilia Rusa’ with Brenda’s help before getting tonight’s supper prepared “ Entrecote Steak” with Sautéed Mushrooms, finely sliced Green Beans and of course twice-cooked Frits along with the usual toppings!

On the sports front today here up in Ponffreda it’s the Mens and Ladies Roach Races at the ‘World Championships’ over the weekend, meanwhile over in Teruel its the ‘Aragon Motor GP’ while in ‘La Liga’ today Villarreal welcome Real Madrid and Barcelona welcome Granada. Over in England in the ‘Premiere League’ its Hull v Manchester City but the ‘Match of the Day’ is the early kick-off  when Liverpool  welcome Everton!! Oh and yes up at Gleneagles it’s the ‘Ryder Cup’ with Europe leading 5-3 over the USA.Now 10-6!

Liverpool 1 - Everton 1 after the 'Blues' scored in the 91st minute! City won 2-4 and Real Madrid won 0-2 and Barcelona won 6-0 with for a change a hat-trick from Neymar!

So this evening after supper we will watch the news, sport and weather details before finding something to watch.

Thoughts for the Day; See above.
