THOUGHT FOR THE DAY;

A SUNNY AND VERY HOT MANILVA ON WEDNESDAY

WEDNESDAY 31st/ JULY 2013.

First thing this morning after we got up and before breakfast we went around to the small square behind the house where the car is. before the sun hits it and gave it a wash and brush up – ready for meeting the ‘Newman’s ‘tomorrow! We are getting ourselves ready in the morning!!!!

We have just come back from the bus station over in Marbella after picking Gillian up; it looks like she has found a house just outside Torquay as she has to move out of her rented house in the urbanization below the village by October, it sound like she is going to move between here and England in the future.

The village has gone into ‘Lock-down’ mode, all the houses have there shutters down, and the locals come out later in the evening along with children who play in the streets till late. We now have the fans on wherever we are in the house, you can tell our house because we have the street shutter up and all the windows open!

We are back into our reading; I think that we have now nearly read all the ‘Patterson’ books as we starting to recognize the stories! We will have to find another ‘Easy’ reading author to read?!

Tonight for supper we are having Spanish Pork Cutlets cooked on the griddle, at the same time I’ am going to sear some sliced Bell Green Peppers ‘Spanish style’ on the griddle pan, I’ am also tossing the cooked Baby New Potatoes in foaming Butter with chopped Parsley! On the side we are having a ‘Provencale’ dipping sauce – it all sound rather mouthwatering! We shall see later!!

Last nights film was “Hitman” from 2007 based on the video game of the same name; ‘Agent 47’ is played by Timothy Olyphant,Dougray Scott takes the other main part and Olga Kurylenko is the rather alluring ‘Tart with a Heart’ ! All action with lots of shooting and sword fights in a non-stop journey around the capitals of Europe!

PS;Tomorrow lunchtime we are meeting the 'Newman's'down on the coast road at the first roundabout before Sabinillas, we will be in the' Red Fiesta - Ferrari' - they are in Wendy Spendy's 'Black Porsche Cayenne' reg.no.W3NWN !!!! How the other half live !!!!

SUNNY AND A VERY HOT MANILVA THIS MORNING

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY;

SUNNY AND VERY HOT MANILVA ON TUESDAY

TUESDAY 30TH/ JULY 2013.

Up bright and breezy this morning before it gets too hot and shot around to the surgery to make an appointment to update the pills! Brenda is going up on the roof terrace for the same reason to do all the ironing, the back is a lot better although the ‘Masseur’ is still working on it; she has been able to do her floor exercises this morning also!

We have a ‘Free’ day so we are taking things easy and just pottering, later I will go down to our butchers for something for tomorrow nights supper; this evening we are having ‘Chicken and Chips’ – flattened Breast of Chicken pan-fried in foaming Lemon Butter with crisp twice-cooked Chips and Garden Peas – simple but nice!

Tomorrow we are picking Gillian up from the bus station over in Marbella, at lunchtime; she is flying into Malaga airport in the late morning. Then on Thursday we are out for lunch with the ‘Newman’s’ – Paul and Wendy ‘Spendy’ and their family at our favorite ‘ Venta Garcia’- we are then going back to their villa along the coast past Sabinillas.

The weather forecast for the rest of the week and over the weekend is getting hotter, today is going to be the hottest day so far this year 35degs!

This afternoon Brenda is retiring up to her newly painted roof terrace, we still have to paint the window railings,Black,we have the paint but are leaving it for the moment until we have some free time!

Tonight after supper we will watch the news and weather and then find a film to watch.

GIBRALTAR IN OCTOBER;

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY;

SUNNY AND HOT MANILVA AT THE START OF A HELLUVA WEEK

MONDAY 29th/ JULY 2013.

Well this morning it’s a hot one in sunny Manilva, the ‘Levante’ breeze has dropped and the forecast for the week is looking very good and getting hotter; good news for Paul and his family who have settled into their villa which turns out to be closer to us, just along the coast road with views to die for across to Africa and Gibraltar. We have booked for Thursday lunch at ‘Venta Garcia’ and are going in the morning to find the villa and show them around the area! Sadly Paul has already made other arrangements so it's going to have to have to be Thursday as we are out on Wednesday morning picking Gillian up from the bus station in Marbella after her return flight into Malaga!

Last weeks problems getting into ‘La Linea’was actually the start of the Spanish Authorities ‘Choking’ the border in both directions, causing massive tailbacks in the 30c+ heat! Over the weekend there were SIX HOUR queues to get out of Gibraltar totally bringing it to a standstill – all over the sovereignty claims to the British Territory. A friend that works in Gibraltar was very lucky on Friday as he was walking out for a change and made it across with not many problems!

This morning we have just come off the Skype video after talking to Zoë and Graham over in Stockport, we had a good catch up with all their news and found out why Zoë’s birthday card to Brenda did not arrive, just one small mistake in the address, probably the same reason that Jane’s card with money in it for a bottle of champagne did not reach us also!

Today is a washing day in the house so Brenda is on her third wash!The good news also is that Brenda's back is a lot better this morning.Meanwhile I’ am up in the office as you can see on the WWW. This evening for supper we are having Steak and salad with some sauté Potatoes, last nights meal of cold Chicken and all the various salads went down very well and Mano and Anna were very relaxed as Mano was enjoying his two days off work.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY;

A VERY SUNNY AND HOT MANILVA ON SUNDAY

SUNDAY 28th/ JULY 2103.

Yet another glorious day here in sunny Manilva; there is a little ‘Levante’ breeze which makes it very pleasant, we have just come back from Bar Rojas after our ‘Paella’ lunch sat under the Sonbrajo, we have been talking to a English family, Nick, Brona and their son, once I got talking I could not stop – they got the quick ‘Potted-Version’ of our life!! Nice talking to you and hope to see you again in sunny Manilva!

We have just seen on Facebook that Paul and Wendy with their family have arrived in the villa in Sotogrande; today is ‘Wendy Spendy’s’ birthday - ! “Happy Birthday” Wendy – the fizz it on its way! We are looking forward to meeting you all later in the week!

Because we were talking we forgot the time and missed the end of the ‘Hungarian GP’ from the ‘Hungaroring’ outside Budapest – Lewis Hamilton won from poll position for the first time in the ‘Mercedes’!

Before we went out we got ready tonight’s ‘Feast’ for Mano and Anna which Anna had requested as her favorite meal; cold sliced Herb Roasted Chicken with salad, crisp long-leaf Lettuce as a Green Salad with Celery and Asparagus spears garnish, Beef Tomato salad in a Balsamic dressing, Campo Egg Mayonnaise, sliced local Baby Beetroot and my two currant specials ‘Ensaladilla Rusa’ and ‘Salad Nicoise’ all served with local New Potatoes tossed in Butter and Parsley! It’s a late birthday treat for Mano’s 60th on Thursday!! See the picture above of Mano's plate!!

SABINILLAS BEACH THE OTHER DAY !

THOUGHT FOR SATURDAY;

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY;

SUNNY AND HOT MANILVA ON SATURDAY

SATURDAY 27th/ JULY 2013.

After a rather late night last night, no dancing but we enjoyed the band and music we had a little lie in this morning; then after our tea and toast and fresh fruit I went up to the office to watch ‘Saturday Morning Kitchen’ and Brenda was getting things on the go for tonight’s supper and tomorrows dinner where I joined her later to finish things off. Anna called in to pick the papers up and have a chat and good gossip, she is possible going over to England next week to check on her house in North Wales and staying with some of her family in Northwich, Jane’s part of the country!

A quieter weekend of sport this week; I’ am just about to watch the qualifying for the ‘Hungarian Grand Prix’in Budapest on the Spanish sports channel. This afternoon Brenda is still having problems with her back so her private ‘Masseur’ will be attending to her every need before she lies down to relax; it will then be time for our ‘Happy Hour’ up on the roof terrace listening to a local music radio station and getting back into out latest ‘Patterson’s’

This evening we are having our usual ‘Steak a la Plancha’ with sautéed Mushrooms and Onions, finely sliced Green Beans and twice-cooked Chips, mine topped with a local Campo fried Egg ! Later we will try and find a film to watch but on Saturday night it’s mainly Spanish, Italian and German films!

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY;

SUNNY AND HOT MANILVA THIS FRIDAY " VERBANA DE STA,ANA "

FRIDAY 26th/ JULY 2013.

Early this morning we awoke to the sounds of the “ Chi Chi Pom ” going around the village to announce the start of the ‘Santa Ana Festival’ – the patron saint of Manilva; see the pictures above, the ‘Santa Ana’ banners go up on all the balconies and I’ve tried with no luck over the past few years, so far to attain one, they are handed down within the families! They are erecting the band stage at the top of Calle Mar and all the bars are stocking up, we are going up to Bar Rojas this evening to watch the procession of the tableau and then have our fish supper, I’ve ordered with Lumy some ‘Gallo Frito – John Dory’ in a ‘Tempura’ batter with of course lots of Lumy’s famous ‘Patatas Fritas’ !! More pictures to follow later of tonight’s festivities.

We have just come back from Sabinillas after doing the shopping, we picked up some nice fresh vegetables form the retail shop, called into the ‘Ferreteria’s’for a small pot of Black Metal paint to finish the window railings up on the roof terrace, posted two cards off, one a birthday card for Jane’s mum Nan who is a young 93 today and one to our dear friend Penny in Bridgnorth who has just lost her best girl friend to the dreaded ‘C’

Brenda is sill struggling a bit so is taking things easy today, I’ve given her the day off and I’ am taking her out for supper this evening,bu I don’t think she will be dancing later!

I’ve also posted some rather blurred pictures from the other night of “ Kitty,Daisy & Lewis ” – they won’t keep still! And I have just posted an update on the work on 'Plaza Vendimia'

Paul,David's business partner and his wife 'Wendy Spendy 'are driving down here to Sotogrande with their two children to a rather nice villa that they have rented,see the picture above; they are at present in the 'Channel Tunnel' we are looking forward to meeting them,we are going to take them to 'Venta Garcia' - all on David and Jane as a late birthday surprise for Paul!

PS; Today is David and Jane's 2nd wedding anniversary - " Congratulation's !

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY;

SUNNY AND HOT MANILVA ON THURSDAY

THURSDAY 25th/ JULY 2013.

Last night as we were watching the evening news on TVE1 they started to report the terrible news about the train crash in Galicia in North West Spain out side the town of ‘Santiago de Compostela’ which is the religious capital of Spain and one of the most important Christian Pilgrimage sites in Europe; sadly the death toll has reached 80 with over a 140 injured, 36 seriously – the reports today on all the main TV channels are reporting that the train was late and was doing over 190km on the curve, which has a speed limit of 80kms! Today should have been the main festival in ‘Santiago de Compostela’- “ Dia de la Patria Galega y Dia del Apostol Santiago ” ( Galicia Day and the Apostle St, James’s Day ) but it was cancelled last night as the authorities realized how bad the crash was. Our thoughts go out to all the families.

This morning Brenda was not able to go down to the beach as planned as she is incapacitated with her back, last evening as she was going to bed it got worse and her own private ‘Masseur’ had to lay on the ointment! This means that her new ‘ Career’ as a painter and decorator is over before it even started!! She had her tea and toast in bed this morning and is taking things very easy all day, I’ve been on the vegetable shift for tonight’s supper – Baked Pork Chops with glazed Apple slices, Brettone Potatoes, Cabbage and glazed Carrot batons. Anna called in at lunchtime for a good gossip,Mano was in bed after his night shift, and it is his 60th birthday today – they are coming for supper on Sunday evening – “ Happy Birthday ” from us both – the card was hand delivered the other day!

This afternoon Brenda is retiring to bed and then we will have our ‘Happy Hour’ up on the newly painted roof terrace. After supper we will catch a film, last night we watched another episode of ‘Game of Thrones’

“ BLUESCAZORLA FESTIVAL 2013 ”

Last night later on TVE2 I watched another gig from the festival; I’ didn’t know what to expect as it was ‘Kitty, Daisy & Lewis ?! It turned out to be one ‘Helluva’ session – they are a three-piece young English band comprising the siblings of the Durham family. They play R&B,Swing,Jump Blues,Country and Western,blues,Hawainan,Blues and Rock n’ Roll !!

They are all multi-instrumentalists playing Guitar,Piano,Banjo,LapsteelGuitar,Harmonica,Double Bass,Trombone,Xylophone and Accordion between them ,oh yes and they all sing!! Kitty sings and plays a mean Harmonica, Daisy plays the Snare Drum sitting side-ways at it and Lewis on the Lapsteel guitar in un- believable ! They interchange instruments all the time and the wild one is Daisy who can’t keep still as she is playing – ‘Jump Blues’ was invented for her ! On stage tonight they had also a very old Rhythm Guitar player, sat down who was from Bombay India and a ‘Fat’ lady in bare feet playing the double Bass !! Honest!!

They have opened for Cold Play,Razorlight,Richard Hawley and Jools Holland; they have appeared regularly at the ‘Bestival’ and ‘Glastonbury’ – catch them soon as they ‘ROCK’ !!

SPECIAL THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK;

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY;

A VERY SUNNY AND HOT MANILVA ON WEDNESDAY

WEDNESDAY 24th/ JULY 2013.

This morning after all Brenda’s efforts up on the roof terrace its time to take things easy for the rest of the day; we had our tea and toast and then called Jack and Lyn for our pre-arranged Skype video call to them back in a rather cold Melbourne; they are both fine and recuperated after their long flight with two stop-offs, one in Dubai and then in Singapore – with very long walks for the transfers! They are glad to be home after their ‘Helluva’ holiday in England with Norah and Jenny and us here in sunny Manilva! Health and Happiness to both of them!!

Meanwhile back here in a very hot and sunny Manilva, by the weekend it’s going to teach the high 30s! So the ‘Patron Saints Day’ on Friday will be a ‘Cracker’ – it starts with the fireworks and the ‘Chi Chi Pom Band’ at 8-00am, then a street party in Calle Mar for the kids before the Mass and then the procession of the ‘Santa Ana’ tableau in the early evening, followed by dancing and singing to a live group until the wee small hours at the top of Calle Mar! We are going up to Bar Rojas for the evening and will have a ‘Fish Supper later.

This afternoon we will be out on the newly painted roof terrace for our early evening ‘Happy Hour’ catching up with our reading and listening to the local music radio station, as usual.

Tonight for supper we are having cold Herb Roasted Chicken with Brenda’s mixed salad and my sautéed Potatoes; last night film was the political thriller “ The Manchurian Candidate ”from 2004 with Denzel Washington in the main role and Liev Schreider?! With also Jon Voight and Meryl Streep playing a very weird and domineering mother – watch out for the exciting climax!!

PS; GEORGE ALEXANDER LOUIS is the new baby's name; HRH Prince George of Cambridge !

SUNNY AND HOT MANILVA THIS MORNING NEWSFLASH

WEDNESDAY 24th/ JULY 2013.

This morning the ‘Painter’ was up before the sun reached the roof terrace and finished the job as you can see in the pictures above! She is now ‘Knackered’ and the ‘Masseur’ has been applying the ointment after her normal, regular floor exercises!! It is now so bright up on the terrace that you can’t look out, I had to take the pictures blind and hope for the best! Anyway it’s a job well done and this evening we will be out for our early evening ‘Happy Hour’ as usual.
