MANILVA THIS LUNCHTIME

SUNNY MANILVA ON FRIDAY AT THE START OF THE WEEKEND

FRIDAY 31st/ MAY 2013.

Another early morning as I had an appointment at the surgery; this time we had a very positive result as our new doctor, our old one has moved down to Sabinillas,arrived and I was first on the list to see her, Maria! She updated all my details from the three consultants, adjusted my prescriptions, gave me the once over and then sorted Brenda out at the same time, she is having the full works checked out next week, Blood and Urine tests and Blood pressure taken – then she is going back for a review as she has not had one for a while. I then called into our chemists in Calle Mar and picked up the new tablet’s, I also had my Blood Pressure taken, which was fine and then my weight checked – I’ am down again ! In fact I have lost 1 stone in old terms !! So good news all round.

We then shot down to Sabinillas for the weekend shopping at both supermarkets, called into the bank and the ‘Ferretaria’for some light bulbs, collected the papers from the English bookshop, exchanged our books for two more ‘Patterson’s’ and posted another birthday card( Watch out in North Wales!) The pictures above show that Bank Street has had it’s first coat of Ashphelt,next week they are doing the garden work and painting the road markings; After getting back to the house we unpacked and then went down to the our butchers were we picked up the Steak for Saturday evening, I also got some ‘Calves Liver’ for next week and Chicken wings for Tapas.

Today is definitely the hottest so far as the breeze has dropped and the forecast for the weekend and into next week is even better – we will be reaching the 30s and higher!

Tonight for supper we are having ‘Goujons of Hake’ made with fresh Breadcrumbs from the local Bakery with Garden Peas, square Chips, Homemade Tartar sauce and lots of Lemon juice! One of our neighbor’s has just dropped off some fresh ‘Campo’ Eggs that still have the Chicken ---- on them !  We will then catch a good film as Friday is the best night on lots of the main channels.-- " Terminator 2 Judgement Day " from 1991 with Arnold Schwarzenegger ( Hasta La Vista - Baby ! ) Linda Hamilton,Edward Furlong and Robert Patrick as the other one !

MANILVA TODAY

THURSDAY 30th/ MAY 2013.

We had a long lie in this morning after our early start yesterday; I then made a large pan of Chicken Curry for supper this evening, you can smell it at the top of our street! We have just come back from a long walk around the village with Chispa as you can see in the pictures above; we met Mano and Anna in ‘Bodega Augustin’ for a coffee and catch up – watch this space as we might have some startling news about the ‘Guerrero’s’ plans!  Just opposite the new Plaza Vendimia there is a new IT shop opened ‘ Informatica CQ’ run by Gabriel and Christina, they helped Gillian the other day so we called in and made ourselves known !

The weather is now how it should be, hot and sunny with clear blue skies and the temperature is climbing every day; Brenda is now back into her afternoon routine up on the roof terrace, reading and relaxing in her Bikini !!

This evening after supper we will find a film to watch,last night I watched upstairs in the office on the PC the England v R.of Ireland match with the live ITV coverage – it was a 1-1 draw and England played terrible – God help them in Brazil on Sunday at the new ‘ Maracana Stadium’ !!

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY;

MANILVA TODAY

MANILVA THIS LUNCHTIME

SUNNY MANILVA ESTEPONA AND MARBELLA

WEDNESDAY 29th/ MAY 2013.

We were up with the birds this morning and shot across to Estepona first; we called into our bank to see our new Manager, then we had coffee and tostado at a very busy and efficient café/bar frequented by lots of regulars and served by a very pleasant and busy waitress in the center of the main shopping area. Brenda then went off, with her card, to get the cosmetics that she can only get in Estepona, she returned with no other purchases she tried on some things but resisted! Meanwhile I went to my barber, Manuel for the full works; trim and cut, beard trim, shave with a cut throat razor, wash and shampoo. blow-dry and style and finally a face massage! You come out feeling like a new man!! We then stopped back at the café/bar for some fresh Orange juice before heading over to the hospital on the far side of Marbella.

The Dermatology consultant gave me practically the all clear, my readings and test were fine, and I had some ‘Cortisone’ injections in my right leg to help clear up the end of the blood infection, also he prescribed some more creams if needed – my next appointment for a check up is in October!

It was a glorious drive back along the N340 coast road as the sun was out, clear blue skies and just a little breeze, one of the best times of the year down here on the Costa del Sol! We shot back to Sabinillas to call at the charity shop and pick up the two bedside cabinets before anybody else spotted them, we had marked sold on them and the owner had marked the price on them, 25euros for the pair! They are now in Norah’s room looking rather smart and matching the bed furniture. The picture above shows ‘Playa Paraiso’ just below us this lunchtime – thanks to the Manilva web-page!

Brenda is retiring to the roof terrace this afternoon to read and top up her colour ready for the folks coming in June – 24 days and counting to the big day! They arrive at Gibraltar on the 19th!

This evening we are having for supper Minute Steak and chips, and then I will follow the ‘International Friendlies Football’ on the PC as England take on the R.of Ireland at Wembley – I don’t agree with Coles being the captain!

Thought for the Day; See the picture above.

MANILVA TONIGHT

MANILVA ON TUESDAY

TUESDAY 28th/ MAY 2013.

We have just come back from Sabinillas after going down this morning on the bus for a couple of messages; I called into the bank,as you can see in the pictures above they are starting to finish the work, they had just laid the concrete base along the parking area. Brenda went to the English bookshop for a card for Gillian and to post another card to North Wales – watch out it could be you!

We then popped into the charity shop next door and found two bedside lamps and two very good small bedside cabinets for Norah’s room! We then went for some flowers but the only shop now in Sabinillas is not very good, mainly artificial! We had a coffee and tea next to the Ceramic/Tile workshop where I took the picture above of the staff in the workshop; outside Marcus our local Financial Councilor was just going off on his vintage ‘Vespa’ scooter, which we have been admiring, as you can see!

The weather is glorious today and for the rest of the week; the sun is hot but there is a little breeze and it is getting hotter by Friday - 28/30degs! This afternoon Brenda will be up on the roof terrace for a while, I will be serving the ‘Cocktails’ early as we are going down to Gillian’s in the early evening for her little ‘Birthday Soirée’ Later we are having for supper ‘Omelet’s’ to choice with a Baked Potato before we watch on TVE1 the Spanish Master Chef. Brenda had a Cheese Omelet and I had a Mushroom Omelet - see the pictures above !!

THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK;

MANILVA ON MONDAY MORNING

MONDAY 27th/ MAY 2013.

I was up bright and early as I had an appointment at the surgery for a update and check up; I’ am not a very ‘Happy Bunny’ as for the first time the Spanish medical system let me down, it is usually very efficient and on time but this morning the relief doctor did not arrive, Emilio, the main village doctor and the Deputy Mayor also arrived late and confronted with the problem shrugged his shoulders! I was also upset as I really wanted to speak to our own doctor not a stand in; to cap it when I went to the reception desk to book another appointment the computer system was not working!!

The forecast for the week is looking settled and getting warmer, which is late for us in sunny Manilva; this week I have an appointment with my Dermatology consultant on Wednesday lunchtime so we are going to Estepona first thing in the morning ( 10-00am opening!) as Brenda needs some cosmetics and I need a cut and trim at my barber’s. Tomorrow our friend Gillian has asked us down, quite literally, as her house it a the bottom of some very steep steps on the side of the valley, at ‘6ish’ for drinks as it is her birthday and she is having some friends and neighbors around.

Just about now the dog usually comes crashing in; to put the record straight her name is actually “ Chispa ” – ‘Little One’ not Cheta as we have always called her, we found out a little while ago when we saw her passport and birth certificate for the first time; we had miss- understood her owner Isabel who is rather old and speaks a very traditional and old Spanish with a speech impediment! She responds to both names now as she is multi-lingual, ie. she has learned English from us and so when we call or tell her things we can do it in both languages! – The dog not Isabel !!

We have finished our latest ‘Patterson’s’ and have started on two more books that Anna brought with her; the TV is back to normal so we will catch a film this evening. Tonight for supper we are having Cold Chicken with leftover vegetables and Potatoes from last night; Mano and Anna really enjoyed the Chicken,Mano loves his vegetables, we had a good catch up and Mano was on a ‘High’ after the wedding on Saturday went exceptionally well!

The late film was a 'Cracker' - " Fast and Furious 5 " from 2011 - filmed in Rio De Janeiro ! It's the first one of the series that we have seen,the car action/chases/crashes are spectacular and stars Vin Diesel and Paul Walker?! in the main roles,Jordena Brester is the love interest,Dwyne Johsnson has bigger shoulders,arms and muscles than Vin Diesel! The baddie is Joaquim De Almeida and the girl on the 'Ducati Streetfighter' is Gal Gadot!!

Thought for the Week;  see above as it is a picture one.

BRESCIA ITALY SUNDAY AFTERNOON

SUNDAY ROAST TODAY

MANILVA ON SUNDAY

SUNDAY 26th/ MAY 2013.

We had a nice lie in this morning, which is a luxury that we enjoy more and more! After our tea and toast we got the Sunday Roast on the go, a rather large Chicken as you can see in the picture above! For a change I rubbed the Chicken with Lemon juice and filled the inside with all the Lemon bits, the stuffing is a mixed Herb and in another change we are having ‘Chunks’ of Tarragon Roast Potatoes cooked in Goose Fat; Brenda has all the usual vegetables and I have made a finger licking/coating pan gravy – Mano called at lunchtime to say that he is not having to work today after the wedding reception yesterday so he and Anna are joining us later for dinner.

We then freshened ourselves up and went for a walk with the dog; it is very hot today, if a little overcast as the breeze has dropped. This afternoon I have the Grand Prix from Monaco on downstairs on the TV in Spanish as there is no coverage on either BBC or ITV?! I’ am going to watch the last stage of the ‘Giro d’Italia’ on the large PC, from Riese to Brescia over 197kms with a sprint finish, which means Mark Cavendish, who is also in with a chance of winning the Red Jersey as the leading points winner; and the start of the French Open Tennis on the smaller PC – at the same time!

PS; The Monaco Grand Prix has just finished - Nico Rosberg is the winner.

PPS; Mark Cavendish has just won the Red Jersey at the leading points scorer so now he is going for his 5th sprint in this years tour on a very fast and dangerous circuit race around Brescia.

MARK CAVENDISH has just won the 21st stage through the narrow streets of Brescia in one of the most exciting stage finishes ever !!! I've lost my voice - Brenda has come down to check that I'am all right!! Oh yes,I nearly forgot, Vincenzo Nibali has won the race and the Pink Jersey.

Last night over in England the Boxing was very good as Carl Froch beat Mikkez Kessel over 12 rounds with a unanimous points win in IBF Super-middleweight fight and the Liverpool boxer Tony Bellow also won – I ‘am talking boxing as Anna is a bit of an  ‘Boxing Expert’so I have read up on last nights fights !

In the early evening Peter and Barbara called in and Peter fixed my mobile,I'am back on-line and all my 'Aps' working ! Thanks to both of them for their very kind attention !!

This evening we are looking forward to seeing Mano and Anna and catching up with all the news and gossip;

Thought for the Day;

Greatness lies not in being strong, but in the right use of strength.

SUNNY MANILVA OVER THE WEEKEND

SATURDAY 25th/ MAY 2013.

This morning is another glorious day in sunny Manilva as we look forward to the weekend; it is not a ‘Bank Holiday’ here in Spain but there is still lots to see and watch as we relax and enjoy our life down here on the ‘Costa Del Sol

The sports agenda for today is the qualifying for the ‘Monaco Grand Prix’ – the next to last stage of the ‘Giro d’Italia’ –weather permitting, ‘La Liga’ football and tonight the all German Final of the ‘Champions League’ from Wembley. At the moment on the other PC as I’ am typing this I have ‘Saturday Morning Kitchen’ on!

PS; Rosberg on pole position with his team mate Hamilton second in Monaco.

PPS; Stage 20 of the 'Giro' has just been won by Vincenzo Nibali,the Pink Jersey race leader, as he broke away on the final climb of the tour up the 'Tre De Cavareno' at 2403m ! The pictures of todays racing are spectacular in the high Dolomites. See above!

PPPS; Bayern Munich beat Borussia Dortmund 1- 2 in the UEFA Champions League Final at Wembley.

Mano has a private wedding at the villa today from the ceremony to the night’s festivities so we don’t know if he will be able to come around tomorrow night for our Sunday ‘Roast Chicken’

Meanwhile this afternoon Brenda is up on the roof terrace taking in the warm sunshine ( 28degs ) I will join her in the early evening for our 'Pre-Dinner Cocktails' !!

For supper we are having ‘Steak a la Plancha’ with sautéed Mushrooms and Onions, finely sliced Green Beans and my now famous ‘Twice cooked’ chips! Then it’s time to find a film!!

Thought for the Day;

Never argue with a fool, onlookers may not know the difference.

SUNNY MANILVA AT THE START OF THE WEEKEND

FRIDAY 24th/ MAY 2013.

As usual on a Friday morning we were up bright and early and shot down to Sabinillas for the shopping; I called into the bank and then we went to ‘Mercadona’ and finally to the English bookshop for the papers, the work in Bank Street is starting to take shape as you can see in the pictures above, after dropping off the goods we walked around the village with dog to the local market for some fresh flowers. It was the ‘Schools Sports Day’ at the Football Stadium for the Junior School as you can see, on the way we called into the ‘Pensioners Club’ that it being refurbished, inside and out, and no we are not members – yet!! At the new car park and play area in ‘Plaza Pozo Del Rey’ the railings are starting to go up and the Mural in the new ‘Plaza Vendimia’ is looking finished for now, we think that there are going to be more on the rest of the wall – watch this space.

At lunchtime we treated ourselves to a light Tapas lunch and drinks up at Bar Rojas as it is hot again today, yesterday it reached 30degs and today, out of the breeze it is 26 degs! – the weekend and into next week is also fine.

This afternoon I was going to follow the ‘Giro d’Italai’ stage 19 from Ponte di Legno to Val Martello in the Dolomites over 139kms but it has been cancelled due to the heavy snow and temperatures below -20c! Tomorrow stage 20 has been re-routed and two of the great climbs over the ‘Gavia and Stervio’ pass’s that were the high spot of the tour -  2783m have been dropped, so the route now, at the moment, is from Silandro to Tre Cime di Lavaredo over 203kms!

This morning our TV would not turn on, new batteries in the remote did not work so we are waiting for the engineer to come early this evening; also my mobile will not connect to the Wi-Fi so Peter is going to call in over the weekend to have a look.

Tonight for supper we are having some Griddled Fillets of Pink Trout with Hollandaise sauce, Garden Peas and ‘Bretonne’ Potatoes that I made this morning; it is then Friday ‘Movie’ night so we will find something to watch, hopefully, as the last two nights the films have been ‘Dogs! ‘That is if the TV has been sorted!!

PS; The TV engineer did not arrive so it was back to the good old radio for the evening; later I retired to the office and watched on the PC on my live TV channel BBC 1 - first 'Have I got News for you' then the 'News' and after 'The Graham Norton Show' !

PPS; He has just arrived this morning,Saturday, and fixed it in a five seconds by un-plugging it !! Then plugging it in again !!!

Thought for the Day;

Life is like photography. You need the negatives to develop.
