THOUGHTS FOR THE DAY FROM SUNNY MANILVA;

..

A VERY WARM & SUNNY MANILVA ON FRIDAY AT THE START OF THE WEEKEND.

FRIDAY 30th/ JUNE 2017.

I was up and out this morning to catch the early bus down to Sabinillas for the weekly shopping, Brenda took ‘ Scooby’ for his first walk of the day, I called into the ‘ English Bookshop’ for the local newspapers before going along to ‘ Mercadona’ for our main shop, they then called a taxi for me, I went along to the local market at the far end of the promenade for fresh flowers & wall plants, then carried on back up the hill to the house, we then had our normal breakfast of toast & tea.

Tomorrow ‘ Scooby’ has new mate joining him, Chico’ a ‘ Bichon Frise ‘ – he’s with us in ‘ Doggy World Heaven ‘ for the first time, he’s arriving in the morning and is staying for a sleep over, he will then be back with us on many occasions over the next few months, on the weekends, no doubt ‘ Chispa ‘ will come crashing in to check him out, watch this space.

The sun was out as I set off on my travels, the sky was bright blue and there was just a light breeze coming down from the hills behind the village, ( from the West – Ponente ) - overnight it’s changed direction, it was coming off the Mediterranean ( from the East – Levante ) for the past two days, it makes it very pleasant and refreshing, but it’s still warm, 28 degs+ today, over the weekend it’s a little cooler then next week is getting warmer by the day, back into the 30s+ - watch this space.

For our supper this evening we are having ‘ Goujons of Hake Fillet ‘ using breadcrumbs from the local bakery, deep-fried in Vegetable Oil, with Mushy Peas and hand-cut ( the Vegetable Chef! ) -  twice-cooked ‘ Stringfellows’ with Homemade ‘Tartar’ sauce and lots of Lemon Wedges on the side. On Saturday its now ‘ Grilled Fillet Steaks ‘ with all the trimmings, on Sunday we are fancying ‘ Lamb ‘ – watch this space.

This weekend on the sports front it’s all happening; tomorrow morning, down in Wellington, on New Zealand’s North Island, it’s the second test match as the New Zealand – ‘All Blacks’ welcome the British and Irish ‘Lions’ Later in the day in Dusseldorf, Germany, the “ Tour de France “ starts, over 21 stages, over the next three weeks, Chris Froome is the favourite.

Next week we have no plans or appointments, at the moment, ‘Scooby’ is with us until Thursday, ‘Reina’ is back for four days from Monday.

On Thursday evening in the ‘Casa De Los Torres’- the Cultural Centre – just around the corner in the next street, it’s the start of four concerts, the first is a ‘Jazz’ concert featuring the son of Fernando, the head of the School of Music and leader of the Manilva Brass Band, on the trombone, it ends on the 25th July with the annual concert in Call Mar by the Manilva Brass Band, then the next day it’s the ‘Festival De Santa Ana, with processions and dancing, followed by over the next three day, for the first time in the village, after 11 years, the return of the ‘Feria’- the main social gathering with music, singing, dancing, eating & drinking and all the fun of the fair!

Meanwhile down in Sabinillas, Puerto de la Duquesa & Castillo de la Duquesa there are various festivals etc,  a Full Moon party, Medieval Markets, a Rock festival, the Fisherman’s festival, Flamenco shows and various sports events down in the Sports complex in the village, watch this space. And that’s only July, watch out for August & September!!

THOUGHTS FOR THE DAY FROM SUNNY MANILVA;

..

A STILL WARM & SUNNY MANILVA ON THURSDAY.

THURSDAY 29th/ JUNE 2017.

We all had a nice lie in this morning as ‘Reina’ is not with us, she’s not back until Monday, for four days, as Lee & Daniela’s shift patterns have changed, ‘Scooby’ slept all night on his rug, he’s very good, no problem to look after, he’s a real character and good company and gets on with all the other dogs, ‘ Chispa’ is in and out, all the time, as usual, the village, at this time of the year, is very quiet, the children have finished school, the deliveries are later and the church bells don’t start until lunchtime!

We are taking things easy today, doing nothing in particular, some chores around the house, after our normal breakfast of toast & tea we got the shopping list ready for my trip down to Sabinillas tomorrow morning, on my travels, for the weekly shopping, I’m catching the local bus as it’s easier then getting the car out of the square, there is still no sign of the underground car park re-opening, watch this space.

This morning  the sun was out early and the sky is bright blue with no clouds, as the stiff ‘ Levante’ breeze is still blowing, it keeps it just a little bit cooler, on the shady side of the streets, it’s hovering on the 29 degs mark, a little cooler over the weekend, then next week it’s picking up again, watch this space.

At the moment we have two maintenance men here checking the gas boiler ( Hot Water) which is not working and at the same time the shutter on our bedroom window which is not opening, it’s a new one, I only rang an hour ago to report the problems, watch this space. Both fixed – ‘ RESULT’ !!

We went out at lunchtime along to ' Bar Castillo' for a nice cool drink and Tapas, we had 'Tortiillatas Camarones - Shrimp Fritters, Boquerones Fritos- Deep fried Anchovey's  and Merluza Frito -Hake Fillets in Tampura Batter ' with ' Frits' ! Mano came along and joined us, Carlos and his cousin Tom also said hello, then some other friends joined us.

See below;

We have not heard from the ‘ Moffatt’s’ over in Old Colwyn, North Wales, for a little while, Tim & Thea are due back to Spain later in the year, when we will no doubt catch up with them again in sunny Mojacar.

PS, Don’t forget to keep the postcards coming when you are out & about, around the World!

For our supper this evening we are having ‘ Grilled Chicken Wings ‘ with a Baked Potato and the rest of the ‘Russian ‘ salad.

Last night we ended up channel hopping, so this evening after supper we will find a film to watch, during the afternoon Brenda is watching the Ladies Tennis from Eastbourne.

THOUGHTS FOR THE DAY FROM A VERY SUNNY & WARM MANILVA;

..

A STILL VERY WARM & SUNNY MANILVA ON WEDNESDAY.

WEDNESDAY 28th/ JUNE 2017.

I was up first this morning to see ‘ Reina’ back with us for another day, she’s not with us tomorrow but back on Friday morning, ‘Scooby’ slept all night on the marble floor under the bed or on his rug, he joins us on the bed in the morning, I then took him for his first walk of the day, when we came back we all had another little lie in until the gas bottle delivery man came down our street, I had left the empty one outside our front door.

For our breakfast, I treated us to crispy  ‘ Smoked Bacon Butties ‘ with mugs of strong ‘ PG Tips’ - before we took both the dogs out for their morning walk, when we returned ‘ Chispa’ came running up the street to welcome us all back!

While we were out we bumped into our neighbour from the top of our street, Pilar, she was with her daughter, also Pilar, who works in London, she is a receptionist at the ***** ‘ London Marriot Hotel County Hall ‘ – her English is nearly perfect, she has always worked in hotels, starting down here in Sotogrande.

See the pictures below of the hotel which is a hotel in a stately stone building with an ornate columned facade, next to the ‘ London Eye ‘ and opposite ‘ Big Ben ‘

This morning the sun broke through early and the sky has cleared as there is still a very pleasant stiff breeze, it’s a little cooler, only 27/28degs today, overnight it’s down to 17/19 degs, the rest of the week and over the weekend is staying the same, next week is also looking very warm & settled, watch this space.

See below Conwy in North Wales over the weekend, the last picture of the Castle was taken on a better day!

For our supper this evening we are having ‘ Albondigas - Pork Meatballs ‘ from our local butcher, in my rich homemade Tomato salsa, with sauteed diced mushrooms added, served on Pasta spirals, with finely sliced Green Beans on the side, tomorrow night it’s going to be ‘ Grilled Chicken Wings ‘ with a Baked Potato, Friday will be ‘ Fish Night’ and then on Saturday we are back to our ‘Steak Supper’ – Sunday is still TBC, watch his space.

This evening we catch up with the ‘ Quiz Shows ‘ before watching later a film on the ‘Kodi’ film channel.
