A VERY HOT & SUNNY MANILVA ON TUESDAY.

TUESDAY 17th/ JULY 2018.

We had a little lie in this morning after a very ‘sticky-night’ – it was close & humid, ‘Paddy’ spent his night under the large wardrobe before joining us on the bed this morning, he goes on a spot at the bottom in-between our legs and waits for his cuddles!

After freshening up we shot out for our first walk of the day, keeping to the shady side of the street down to the ‘Mirador’ – as we were passing the local ‘ Market Fruit & Vegetable Shop’- owned by the Ex-Mayor, Diego, he was coming out, so we congratulated him on the new ‘ Calle Mar’ as it was his party and him who first proposed the development, all good news except for one technicality, by his shop, at the entrance to the street, there is new street sign been put up, it shows a weight restriction, he confirmed, what we have been suspecting, traffic is going to be allowed through, but not allowed to park!! Knowing the ‘ local’s’ that’s going to be interesting! WATCH THIS SPACE.!!

When we returned I treated ourselves to ‘Toasted Crispy Smoked Bacon Butties’ – smothered in ‘ HP’ Brown sauce – open on brown for Brenda, with mugs of strong tea, see below a spectacular view from a balcony overlooking the Mediterranean & Gibraltar, with a rather different light breakfast!!

This morning the sun was out early and the sky is already bright blue, the ‘Poineta’ breeze has dropped, there is just a very light sea-breeze coming up on the shady side of the street, so by lunchtime it’s going to be hot, 31 degs+ - for the rest of the week it’s hovering in the mid to high 30s, keeping very hot & sunny, during the night 21 degs + & very humid, next week we are in for more of the same up to and over the ‘Feria’ weekend,  all the fans are on, in fact two of them are starting to show signs of wear! I’ve ordered a new one for the bedroom last week, watch this space.

See below the ‘MS Royal Princess ‘ berthed at the Pier Head in a rather overcast & cloudy Liverpool, yesterday. When Brenda was speaking to her sister Jenny, later in the day, on the other side of the River Mersey, it was raining heavy!

While I’m talking about the River Mersey, over the weekend at ‘ Cammell Laird Shipyard’ in Birkenhead, on the banks of the river, where the four sister’s father, Walter, worked for all his life, a new ‘Antarctic’ research vessel was launched, the “ RRS Sir David Attenborough “ by the ‘ great’ man himself!

And how it will look when its finished !

At lunchtime after a short walk with 'Paddy' we stopped at ' Bar Castillo' for a nice cool drink, our friend ' Ringo' joined us for beer, we had some lovely freshly homemade 'Tapas' - Tortilla, Albondigas en Salsa Tomate, Crab Salad & a Mini-Brochette of Chicken ( marinated in Curry sauce!) with local fresh bread, the Flamenco music playing in the background, sat in the shade, a perfect tranquil day in sunny Manilva,

We bumped into the Mayor, Mario and he pointed out the new decorated 'Canopy Poles' that are being erected along the street, we asked him about the traffic details but got a 'Politicians' answer, we also asked/suggested that there should be signs for ' No Ball Games' as it's starting to be a problem when customers/visitors are eating outside, the other evening it happened to us and some other people, when a ball hit us/ the table! Watch this space.

See below the new ' Canopy Poles '

The ' Contractors' workmen are also finishing off the bases around the new 'Orange Trees' as you can see in the picture above.

We will be watching, this afternoon, ‘Stage 10 ‘ of the ‘Tour de France’ – the first day in the ‘ Alps’ as they take on 3/4 major climbs from Annecy to Le Grand Bornand’ over 159 kms.

See the route map below;

I have posted above just a few pictures from yesterdays ‘ Virgen del Carmen’ Festival in Castillo de la Duquesa & Puerto de la Duquesa Marina.

For our supper this evening the ‘Head Chef & his Staff’ are braving the heat, in the small back kitchen, as we are having ‘Marinated Spanish Lamb Cutlets – Chuletas de Cordero ’ – cooked on a very hot griddle-plate ‘ Pink’  accompanied  with the classic ‘Lyonnaise Potatoes’ and a selection of fresh, local Vegetables, not forgetting the ‘Mint ‘ sauce!

Norah & Jenny have booked their holiday in ‘Menorca’ at the end of September, it has brought back memories of Majorca and the “ Soller Railway “ from Soller to Palma, a narrow-gauge route takes it over a mountain range, through 13 longitude tunnels, several bridges, the ‘ Cinc-Ports’ viaduct, with five arches and many bends!

See below;

Later this afternoon/evening we will be watching all the ‘Quiz Shows’ that have returned after all the sport; ‘ Countdown, The 100 K Drop, Tipping Point, The Chase & University Challenge ‘ – then channel hopping after supper.

This morning we guessed correctly the 7 second backwards track on the  “Breakfast Show on Castle Radio FM 89.2 6 online on the WWW”  – the main clue was ‘Tumbling Pebbles’ for the group! – “ The Rolling Stones “ singing ‘ Street Fightin’Man’ !

Thoughts for the Day;  See above.
