A WARM & SUNNY MANILVA ON TUESDAY " VALENTINES DAY "

TUESDAY 14th / FEBRUARY 2017.  “ VALENTINE’S DAY “

We were up early this morning and got ourselves freshened up, ‘ Reina’ was dropped off and we then had a quick cup of tea & toast before Brenda shot off to catch the local bus down to Sabinillas as she has an appointment at the Hairdressers for a cut & blow/style.

The sun was out early and the sky is cloudless & blue, there is no breeze and by lunchtime it’s due to reach 18/19degs, it’s going to be like this for the rest of the week, even getting a little warmer before the weekend, back to normal for the time of the year, a perfect day down here on the ‘ Costa Del Sol ‘ Watch this space.

At lunchtime we went up to ' Bar Rojas ' for a nice drink & Tapas, the sun was warm as we sat watching the world go by in sunny Manilva.

For our ‘ Valentines ‘ meal this evening we are having ‘ Tournedos Rossini’ – my version of the classic – I wrap the trimmed Fillet Steaks in Smoked Bacon Rashers, they are then seared on a hot griddle plate, to seal & add color, before going in the oven to bake  - ‘ Med-Rare ‘ – then they are placed on a round toasted ‘ Crouton’ and topped with a quenelle of ‘Iberico Pate’ – surrounded with a pool of a rich demi-glaze Red Wine/Sherry reduction,  garnished with seared Asparagus Spear & whole Green Beans and of course twice-cooked ‘ Frits ‘ The dessert has changed as I am now going to make  ‘ Crepes ‘ with a warm Strawberry compote!

Today’s bit of nostalgia is from my teens, growing up in Liverpool and then working in the city in the mid 60s; which means the ‘ Club’ scenes of the ‘ Merseybeat’ – I started by going to the ‘Cavern Club’ lunchtime sessions while still at Grammer school ( Collegiate )  at the same time I went out to the local venue’s on my side of Liverpool, the ‘Orrell Park Ballroom ‘ & the ‘Litherland Town Hall’

See below some pictures of Liverpool back then, the original ‘ Cavern Club’ as it was , grey & damp! - with the other clubs!!

Then while at Catering College ( Colquitt Street ) at the top of Bold Street I frequented all the Coffee Bars & Clubs and Pubs in the city centre, ‘ La Busola, the Casbah, the Cabin Club, The Blue Angel , the Iron Door, the Pink Parrot, the Downbeat, the Jacaranda, the Sink Club etc ( see above ) I then, while at my time at the Stork Hotel, I used to go to all the  city entertainment clubs of the time, the famous old bars & restaurants etc, I will talk about them in another Blog! Watch this space.

Thoughts for the Day; See above.
