A DRY, CLEAR & SUNNY MANILVA ON SATURDAY;

SATURDAY 4th/ FEBRUARY 2017.

We managed a nice lie in this morning before the gas bottle delivery man called down our street, you leave the empty one outside the front door and he calls and exchanges it, Brenda then produced her famous ‘ Poached Eggs on Toast ( sadly still not ‘ Campo’ ) with mugs of steaming ‘ PG Tips’ to set us up for the day ahead.

At the moment its clear, dry and sunny, the forecast rain has not yet appeared, the sky is blue and there is a little breeze, a good drying day, as Brenda says! Its due to reach the heady heights of 20degs by this afternoon, despite the rain, tomorrow it’s more of the same, next week is starting to look settled with sunshine before a wet weekend, watch this space.

This evening for our supper we are having ‘ Grilled Entrecote Steak ‘ – one large one cooked on a very hot griddle plate ‘ Med-Rare’ – then left to rest, I then slice it ‘ French’ style into ‘ fingers’ & it’s garnished with Seared Asparagus Spears & Button Mushrooms, on the side some finely sliced Green Beans and of course twice-cooked ‘ Chips’ – not forgetting the ‘ Bearnaise’ sauce! Tomorrow evening I’m making my now famous ‘Smoked Chicken & Three Green Bean Risotto’

A busy sports weekend ahead; over in the ‘ Premiere League ‘ Everton welcome Bournemouth and Liverpool travel across to Hull, on Sunday Manchester City are at home to Swansea City; here in ‘ La Liga’ Barcelona welcome Athletic Bilbao and on Sunday Real Madrid travel to Celta Vigo. The ‘ National Hunt Racing’ this afternoon on ITV4 is from Sandown Park, Wetherby & Musselburgh and the later the ‘ Six Nations Rugby Union’ kicks off with Scotland at home to Ireland and then later England welcome France, tomorrow Wales travel to Italy.

My last bit of Liverpool nostalgia this week is about my early trains spotting days, locally around Aintree and then down in Liverpool at Lime Street Station, Exchange Station and Central Station with my dad, I took the numbers down with pencil on paper and then later marked them off in the numbers books!

The pictures above show various steam trains at the ‘ Aintree Sorting Sidings’ – the old Aintree Racecourse Station, passing ‘Vernons Pools’ at Maghull, the old lines into the Liverpool Docks and local tracks around Orrell Park. I later became a ‘ Plane Spotter ‘ at the old ‘Speke Airport’ and a ‘Ship Spotter’ down at the docks at the Pier Head!! Watch this space.

Thoughts for the Day; See above.
