We were both up very early this morning and
after a quick freshen up we shot down to Sabinillas to the ‘ Medical Centre’
for our appointments with our Doctor, Natalia, we had to wait a short while as
she had an emergency to look after, she then checked all our results, blood
& urine tests etc and my ‘ ECG’ - we
are both very well, in fact our results were better than last time, all our
levels have improved and some have dropped down, as required, she has made
slight adjustments to our prescription tablets, my ‘ECG’ had an ‘excellent’
comment!
Both our Kidney results were very good,
which is great news as Brenda has her appointment with the ‘ Kidney’ Consultant
next Tuesday morning across at the ‘ Costs Del Sol Hospital’ in Marbella, our
diabetic levels were fine and both our cholesterol reading were down, my ‘PSA’ level
was also good, I’m due another series of tests in 2 months time before I go to
see the ‘Prostrate ‘ consultant in April, for my six month review/check up, watch
this space.
We then carried on back to ‘ Mercadona’ for
our main shop, next we called into the ‘ Ferreteria’s’ and found a new front
door mat, I also picked up a new pair of slippers from the ‘Chinese Bazaar’
across the road, before going along to the local market, at the far end of the
promenade, for some small wall plants, I then stopped at the garage to top up
the petrol, before coming back up the hill trough the vine fields to unload
back at the house, on the way to the underground car park I called into our
local Garage to pay Pedro part of the bill for the repairs to the car.
This morning as we set off on our travels
before the sun had come up above the horizon, it was very cold, to say the
least, there was also a stiff breeze, it was grey & overcast, the sun is
now trying to break through and the clouds are clearing, by this afternoon it’s
due to reach only 14/ 15 degs, tomorrow is the same but with sunshine, then on
Sunday and into the start of the next week we are in for some of the wet stuff,
later in the week it’s settling down and going dry, watch this space.
This afternoon ‘ Charlie’ is being dropped
off for a short two-night weekend break, ‘Chispa’ is back to normal. she calls
in all the time to see us and all her friends, ‘Reina’ is back on Monday, for
her normal 4 days and then at the start of February ‘ Chico’ is back for
another weeks holiday. Watch this space.
For our supper this evening we are having a
old classic, at Brenda’s request, “ Paupiettes of Hake Fillet Veronique “ –
poached, flattened Fillet of Hake , kept in a roll with a cocktail stick (
taken out after poaching) – then coated with the creamy White Wine sauce
containing seedless White Grapes, served with Parsley New Potatoes & Garden
Peas.
In the old days the dish was always
presented on a silver flat with glazed ‘Pommes Duchesse’ ( creamed mashed
potato) piped around the edges, the
waiter then used two fish knives to serve the fish and his spoon & fork for
the sauce, an acquired talent! We still use Fish Knives & Forks and have my
very special, large, serving ‘Silver’ Spoon
& Fork which I’ve had for over 50 years+!
Last night after supper we watched the last
episode of the excellent four-part series over on ‘ BBC TV 2 ‘ – “ A House
Through Time “ presented by David Olusoga, - this brought the story up to date
from 1945, before closing the door on the house that history built. This was
the first chance to actually meet the people that lived in the four-storey
Georgian terrace, the old lady who still lives in the street ( 87 years!) was
the scene-stealer, with twinkle in her eye she told how she used to pose nude
for her neighbour John Lennon!
The ‘Toxteth’ riots, in Liverpool 8,
happened just outside the front door, one of the old tenants was a gay Spanish
guy who opened the first Tapas bar in Liverpool, he died from Aids in the
epidemic of that time, also the local Carrabean/Black community spoke of all
the clubs of the time, I used to go to them, ‘ The Silver Sands, The Federal,
The Somali Club & The Nigeria’ to name just a few! A very dear friend and
loyal member of staff at the ‘Stork Hotel’ back in the mid 60s was ‘ Big Jim ‘
from Trinidad, I was godfather to one of his children. On things that real
shocked us was the state of the living standards, back in the very early 70s,
when we had just got married across the water in Port Sunlight!
Lots of very happy memories from my early
days being brought up, going to Grammar School, College, the ‘Mersey-Beat' music scene and working in Liverpool.
Thoughts for the Day ; See above.
