A VERY DAMP & OVERCAST SUNNY MANILVA ON ' PALM SUNDAY'

SUNDAY 25th/ MARCH 2018.   “ PALM SUNDAY “

We had a nice lie in this morning, after losing the hour, as the clocks went forward, after a quick freshen up we had a mug of tea & toast before getting today’s roast on the go.
Overnight the rain returned and at the moment, as forecast, we are in the middle of another rain storm, sadly there will be no procession’s today, on ‘ Palm Sunday’ - for the start of the ‘ Semana Santa’ week of religious celebrations& parades.

See below;

From tomorrow, at the start of the week, the forecast is starting to look a lot better, the sun is back and the sky will be blue, a light breeze will make it very pleasant, the overall temperatures are rising to the ‘ heady heights ‘ of 21/23 degs+ - overnight down to 11/12 degs+! – the only sign of the wet stuff is now, sadly on ‘ Easter Sunday’ – hopefully, for the main day, in the weeks celebrations, it will be clear & dry by then, fingers crossed, watch this space.

So for our ‘ Roast’ today, we are having a ‘ Leg of Spanish Lamb’ – studded with Garlic & Rosemary, as for next week’s ‘ Easter Sunday Roast’ we have a lovely ‘ Loin of English Pork with Crackling’ The Leg is roasted on a bed of mixed vegetable ‘ Trivets’ – until ‘ Pink’ - no blood, then left to be carved this evening.

I then made a large dish, with the help of the ‘ Second Chef’( peeling the potatoes!) my famous ‘ Boulanger Potatoes’ – layers of hand-sliced, local potatoes, decreasing in thickness, for the three layers, with finally sliced Onions, not forgetting to season each layer with salt & black pepper, before adding the rich ‘Chicken & Vegetable’ stock, made with the cooking water from all the vegetables!  It goes in the oven this evening and near the end of cooking is studded with knobs of butter, to crisp-off the top!

See below the ' Boulangere Potatoes ' with the Roast Potatoes on top, with the Mashed Potato and the Broccoli & Caulilflower Florets in a Three Cheese sauce, as they came out of the oven!

 Meanwhile the ‘ Vegetable Chef’ has gone mad; Broccoli & Cauliflower Florets in a three Cheese sauce, Glazed Carrot Batons & Baby Brussels Sprouts( local) Garden Peas, a dish of her famous ‘ Mashed Potato ‘ and  also a few small ‘ Roast Potatoes’ cooked in the ‘ Lamb’ juices/fat! I then made, my famous, ‘ finger-licking’ ‘ Pan Gravy’ using the roasting juices.

Just a quick update on the sports results so far; over at the ‘ Australian Grand Prix’ in Melbourne, Sebastian Vettel, won a dramatic race after leapfrogging Lewis Hamilton during a safety car period!

Last night after supper we channel hopped as the ‘Danish ‘crime/drama series that we are following over on ‘ BBC Four’ was cancelled?!

Thoughts for the Day;  See above.
