A VERY ' CRISP' COLD & OVERCAST SUNNY MANILVA ON SUNDAY - XMAS EVE 2017.

SUNDAY 24th/ DECEMBER 2017.  “ XMAS EVE – NOCHE BUENA “

Just a little lie in this morning, the village is very quiet and the church bells have not started!  Brenda took ‘ Charlie’ out for his first walk of the day,  ‘ Reina’ is with us tonight for a sleep over, meanwhile I made the ‘ Crispy Smoked Bacon Butties’ with mugs of steaming tea, to get the day on the go.

The Turkey has gone in the oven to roast, the’ Crown’ with a leg & thigh separate, as you can see in the pictures below, resting on a bed of assorted ‘ Trivets’- Onions, Leeks, Celery, Carrots, Parsnips etc, the Turkey rubbed with Lemon Juice & Salt, then a mixture of Goose Fat/Vegetables Oil- a hot oven to start for the first hour, then turned down a little before periodically basting the ‘ Bird’!

I check the roasting with a long/thin meat skewer until the juices run clear, I will then make my famous ‘ finger-licking’ Pan Gravy  in the roasting tray after taking out all the Trivets & Oil, a spoon of flour added and cooked off before deglazing with a rich Turkey/ Vegetable Stock, seasoned to taste, a dash of ‘Gravy Browning’ and the consistency checked, then passed through a sieve and left to cook out under the eagle eye of the ‘ Second Chef’!

See blow after coming out of the oven!

We then has a nice catch up/chat with Tim & Thea ( the Moffatts!) up in Mojacar, as they are settled on the site below Mojacar Pueblo, as you can see in the pictures below, they are spending time with friends and getting together with them over the Xmas period, this year, for the first time, Jo & Ben are back at their house in Colwyn Bay, North Wales, for Christmas, Jo is coming back over to see them for the New Year, on her way back to Madrid, just in time for Tim’s Birthday!

This morning, at the moment, it’s rather dull & overcast with a stiff breeze, making it cold & ‘ crisp’ to say the least! Hopefully the sun is due to break through later, reaching 18 degs+  Christmas Day is staying the same but on Boxing Day/Wednesday some of the wet stuff is back, the rest of the week and over next weekend is now looking back to normal, for the time of the year, dry & settled reaching 20 degs+ Watch this space.

See the beach down in Sabinillas this morning and Colwyn Bay at dawn also this morning!

This evening for our supper we are having ‘ Braised Lamb Shanks’ in a Minted Gravy, with whole/baby French Green Beans & ‘ Garden Pea A la Flamande’ ( mixed with baby Carrots) & Brenda’s famous ‘ Mashed Potato and  ‘ Pommes Rissolees’ – (  Cubed boiled potatoes tossed in foaming Butter!)

Yesterday evening after supper we settled down to watch on the ‘ITV Hub’ the detective drama series “ Bancroft “ starring Sarah Parish as a hard-hitting Detective with a ‘ past’ – with something to hide, as she goes for promotion, we followed the first two episodes and caught the back to back next final two episode’s. With a cast of Faye Marsay, Linus Roche, Adrian Edmondson, Art Malik, Lee Boardman & Kenneth Cranham, who all add to a nail-biting and very gripping story line, with 2/3 murders, a fire-bombing and a shooting, all by the lady Dectective ‘ Bancroft’ - as she attempts to take down the local crime ring, watch it right up to the end!

Thoughts for the Day;  See above.
