A WARM & ' CRISP' SUNNY MANILVA ON SUNDAY.

SUNDAY 5th/ NOVEMBER 2017.

We managed just a little lie in this morning and after a quick freshen up we grabbed a quick toast & tea before getting going in the kitchen with today’s ‘ Roast ‘

‘Roast Leg of Spanish Lamb ‘ studded with Garlic Cloves & Rosemary, finished on a bed of my famous ‘ Boulangere ‘ Potatoes with a sauceboat of my equally famous ‘ Finger-Licking’ Pan Gravy, the ‘ Vegetable Chef’ has gone ‘ mad’ – Glazed Carrots & Turnips, Broccoli & Cauliflower Florets in a three Cheese sauce, Braised Leeks in a Cream sauce, Whole Baby Green Beans, Garden Peas, her famous ‘ Mashed’ Potato and some small ‘Roast’ Potatoes! Not forgetting the special ‘ Mint Sauce’ on the side.!!

Yesterday after the rain passed us by in the morning, the sun broke through and it was, by lunchtime, warm & sunny, for the rest of the day, this morning started grey & cool but it’s now picking up, next week is looking dry & settled, hovering on the 20 degs mark, at night only 11/12 degs, rather cool for the time of year, it’s a ‘ Arctic ‘ wind bringing down some unseasonal weather, the ‘ Duvet’ has gone on the bed! Watch this space.

In ‘ Doggy World Heaven ‘ next week little princess ‘ Reina’ is with us from Monday for three days, ‘ Scruffy ‘ is back for a morning (TBC) and no doubt ‘ Chispa’ will be crashing in to see her friends and us!

At lunchtime we went along to ' Bar Castillo' for a cool drink sat in the warm sunshine and had some very nice Tapas, the house Paella, a white Broad Bean stew and my favourite of diced Pork in a Green Peppercorn Cream salsa.

This morning on ‘ facebook’ on the ‘ Old Liverpool ‘ page it featured the  famous ‘ Stork Hotel ‘ in Queens Square, in the centre of Liverpool , behind St Georges Hall, below Lime Street. Back in the mid 60s, I started as a Trainee Manager and by 1966 was the youngest Manager in the country, at the age of 21! I’ve talked about the Hotel before on the Blog so won’t bore you with all the stories again, only to say that by the time I moved across to the ‘ Bridge Inn’ in Port Sunlight, on the Wirral, in 1968 I was 9 stone with a ‘ six-pack’! The rest is history!!

See above some pictures of the ‘ Stork Hotel ‘ taken over the years, showing the wholesale “ Fruit, Flower & Vegetable Market “ that appeared 6 days a week in front of the hotel, I was 5/6 year old when my Mum, first took me with her to the market to buy the flowers for her shops, her brother, was the Head Florist at the famous ‘ Adelphi Hotel’ for nearly 50 years, as well as having shops around the city.

On my first day as a Trainee Manger in 1965 I walked down the steps in my ‘  Black Pin-Stripes’ and Mr Poupart, from one of the Wholesaler’s in the pictures, recognized me and put a ‘  Red Rose’ in my lapel, a tradition that carried on for the next 45 years!

Thoughts for the Day;  See above.
