A WARM & SUNNY MANILVA ON SATURDAY.

SATURDAY 10th/ JUNE 2017.

We had a nice lie in this morning as the village was very quiet, no deliveries, no children and no church bells, until later! After Brenda’s famous ‘ Poached ‘Campo’ Eggs on Toast ‘ with mugs of strong tea we sorted ourselves out for the day ahead.

The church bells were calling the faithful to the start of the  ‘Romeria’ Festival, it all takes place down in the valley, below the village, near the ‘Roman Baths’ where there is a small chapel and shrine, they carry the ‘Tableau of the Virgen’ down on the shoulders of the ‘dedicated ones’- from the church, with all the village following, then they sing, dance, eat and drink, stay there overnight and then in the morning they hold church services and take the Mass. It’s a celebration and pilgrimage of everything ‘Spanish & Catholic’

We are taking things easy today, we have nothing planned, we are just relaxing, a little reading later and then some TV watching, Brenda want’s to follow the ‘French Open’ Tennis Finals over the next two days, there is also International Football with World Cup Qualifiers, Scotland v England & Spain v Macedonia, the ‘ Canadian Grand Prix ‘ in Montreal, the Rugby Union games as the ‘ British and Irish Lions’ are in New Zealand and England travel to Argentina. A ‘ Sporty’ weekend!

It’s another hot one today, the sun was out early, as usual at this time of the year, it’s a little overcast but still warm & sunny, tomorrow is the same and then next week is going to be even hotter.

See the forecast chart below;

This evening we are having the old classic, my version, of “ Steak Diane “ -  I ‘ French Trim’  the ‘Entrecote Steaks’ before flattening, then season with Sea Salt & crushed Black Peppercorns before smothering them in Dijon Mustard, they are then pan-seared in foaming butter and taken out to rest, the sauce is then made in the same pan with finally chopped Shallots & sliced Button Mushrooms, a dash of Worcestershire sauce & Tabasco, a glass of Brenda’s Red Wine, a strong Beef & Vegetables stock, a large spoon of Dijon mustard, then left to reduce before you flambĂ© with Brandy, then the steaks are placed back in the pan, Double Cream and chopped Parsley added, the seasoning and consistency adjusted to taste. As shown by Mr Oliver, the Restaurant Manager of the Stork Hotel in Liverpool back in the mid 60s!  We are having whole Green Beans and of course twice-cooked ‘ Chips’ on the side. Tomorrow night we are having ‘Grilled Barnsley Lamb Chops’ resting on a large dish of the classic ‘ Boulangere Potatoes’ with seasonal vegetables on the side.

Yesterday evening the new Bridge was opened by the Mayor, Mario, at the ‘Lidl’ roundabout at the entrance to Sabinillas on the coast road, see below the view from the bridge towards the underpass through Sabinillas.

Thoughts for the Day;  See above.
