I was up early this
morning to see ‘ Reina’ back with us for the day, she’s back next week for four
days, on Monday ‘ Scooby’ is joining us in ‘ Doggy World Heaven ‘ for 12 days,
tomorrow morning we have a lady coming to see us with her dog ‘Chico’ a ‘Bichon Frise’ with some possible
dates over the next few months, watch this space.
I then shot off on my
travels down to Sabinillas on the bus as it was too much trouble to get the car
out of the small square behind the house, I called into the ‘ English Bookshop ‘
to pick up the local English newspapers and a birthday card ( watch out it
could be you!) I then did our main shop in a very busy ‘ Mercadona’ –next week
it will be mad, as all the school holidays start over here, the cashier called
a Taxi for me, on the way I got him to stop at the market at the far end of the
promenade so as I could buy some fresh flowers, we then came back up the hill
through the vine fields to our house, where we un-packed and then had a cup of
tea, toast & fresh fruit.
Overnight it was
another ‘ hot one’ – 22degs+ -we have a
long floor fan on but you still end up stuck to the damp sheets, not getting
much sleep, today is going to be even hotter during the day 31/33 degs+ The sky
has cleared and the sun was out early, there is no breeze so by lunchtime you
are not able to walk or breath on the sunny side of the street, the village is
very quiet and only come to life later in the evening as the sun goes down
behind the mountains, this weekend is going to be very hot & sunny followed
by a ‘ Scorcher’ next week, watch this space.
For our supper this
evening we are having ‘ Pan-Seared Fillets of Hake a la Meuniere ‘ – finished in
a Lemon & Parsley Butter sauce, with Garden Pea and ‘ Parsley’ New Potatoes.
Tomorrow night it’s the ‘ Head Chef and Second Chefs ‘ night off!!
This evening down in
Sabinillas on the beach it’s the annual “ Noche De San Juan “ – the ‘ Fire Festival’
that celebrates the start of the summer season, at midnight the ‘ Tableau ‘
with a different theme each year, is set alight and there is a large fireworks
display, with singing, dancing, eating & drinking, the tradition is to jump
over the embers in bare feet and then walk in the sea, making a wish! We have
tried it twice but nothing happened!
Last night we went up
to ‘ Bar Rojas’ for Brenda’s first birthday supper, she’s like the ‘Queen’ with
two celebrations, we are out again on Saturday down in ‘Puerto de la Duquesa’
for the ‘ official’ one! It was still very hot as we sat under the ‘ Sonbajo’ (
A Palm covered shade ) in the late
evening sunshine, Susanna looked after us, the cool drinks arrived, we ordered
for later, 10-00pm, after the sun went down behind the mountains around the
village.
Brenda had the BBQ ‘
Chuletas – Lamb Cutlets ‘ with a very large Mixed Salad with Watermelon &
Orange segments, I had the steak of ‘ Secreto – Shoulder of Beef’ also cooked
on the BBQ – Med-Rare with a large
portion of once-cooked, in Olive Oil, ‘ Frits’ which Brenda nibbled! Susanna
then appeared with a surprise birthday cake, a small Raspberry Cheese Cake’
with just one candle in it! She played on the music system a version of ‘ Happy
Birthday ‘ as the other diners and local joined in singing first in English and
then in Spanish, a perfect end to a ‘Helluva’ Day for the ‘ Birthday Girl’!!
Brenda would like to
thank all her family & friends from all over the World, the UK, Australia
& Canada and down here on the Costa Del Sol and in sunny Manilva, for all
the birthday cards and even a post card from Sweden, all arriving ahead or on
time, see the picture below of the dining table in our house, Facebook messages
& likes on the pictures, E-Mails, Text messages and ‘ Skype’ video calls.
Lots of love to all,
hugs & kisses, Brenda xxxx
