A VERY HOT & SUNNY MANILVA ON THURSDAY.

THURSDAY 8th JUNE 2017.    “  WORLD GIN DAY “ !!

We had a nice long lie in this morning, again, as the village was very quiet, no deliveries etc and sadly still no ‘ Reina’ – Daniela is still off work and we are now not expecting Reina’ back with us until next week, get well soon Daniela! ‘ Chispa’ called in for her breakfast, with us, she’s in & out at this time of the year, all the time.

We are in for a ‘ hot one’ today, the sun was out early and the sky is bright blue, there is no breeze so by lunchtime it’s due to reach 27 degs+  Over the weekend we are in for more of the same and next week is going to be a ‘ scorcher’ with very hot sunshine every day and the temperatures hovering on the 30 degs mark! Watch this space.

After our normal light breakfast of fresh fruit, toast & tea we got the shopping list ready for tomorrow morning when I’m out on my travels down in Sabinillas. This evening for our supper we are having the rest of the ‘ Chicken & Mushroom ’Tarragon’ Casserole ‘ with Baked Potato. Friday will be ‘ Fish Night ‘ and Saturday is as usual ‘ Steak Night’ – then on Sunday, at long last, we are having the ‘ Grilled Barnsley Lamb Chops’ resting on ‘ Boulangere Potatoes! Watch this space.

Over the next 2/3 months in the village it’s the time for the various summer festivals; this weekend it’s the ‘ Romeria ‘ ( Farmers ) then the next weekend it’s the very first ‘ Gay Pride’ event!

On the weekend of Brenda’s birthday, as usual, it’s the ‘ San Juan ‘ Festival down on the beach ( Fire Festival) as well as the ‘ Mid-Summer’ celebrations, then there is the traditional ‘ Fishermans Festival ‘ based in Puerto de la Duquesa, before the ‘Santa Ana’ Festival, the patron saint of the village, which is this year also the time for the annual ‘Feria’ ( Summer Fair ) - taking place back in the village for the first time in over 11 years.

There are also various cultural events taking place in the ‘ Casa de Torres ‘ centre around the corner from us in the next street, over the next few months,  there is also a ‘ Flamenco’ street festival in ‘ Calle Mar’ - finally on the first weekend in September we have the biggest festival of the year, the ‘ Vendimia’ Wine Festival over three days, all taking place in the new ‘Plaza de la Vendimia’ and along Calle Mar, as we celebrate the picking & crushing of the first grapes!

See below the main door of the ' Casa de Torres ' Cultural Centre.

See below the mural on the wall of the new grape crushing pit in the ' Plaza de la Vendimia ' with Mario, the Mayor on the left, on the right is the Ex-Mayor Diego and in the center is Malcolm, taken from a picture on the opening of the new square as we crushed the new grapes!

This afternoon Mario Jnr, the Mayor’s son, is coming for his ‘English’ speaking lesson, only two more to go before before his exam in Malaga in front of the ‘ Cambridge Board’! Tonight after supper we will be watching the final part of the gripping series ‘ Paula’ – then we will watch the start of the Election coverage on ‘BBC TV 1’ as the exit polls are announced for the General Election?!  Watch this space.
