I was up and out this morning to catch the
early bus down to Sabinillas for the weekly shopping, Brenda took ‘ Scooby’ for
his first walk of the day, I called into the ‘ English Bookshop’ for the local
newspapers before going along to ‘ Mercadona’ for our main shop, they then
called a taxi for me, I went along to the local market at the far end of the promenade
for fresh flowers & wall plants, then carried on back up the hill to the
house, we then had our normal breakfast of toast & tea.
Tomorrow ‘ Scooby’ has new mate joining him,
Chico’ a ‘ Bichon Frise ‘ – he’s with us in ‘ Doggy World Heaven ‘ for the
first time, he’s arriving in the morning and is staying for a sleep over, he
will then be back with us on many occasions over the next few months, on the
weekends, no doubt ‘ Chispa ‘ will come crashing in to check him out, watch

The sun was out as I set off on my travels,
the sky was bright blue and there was just a light breeze coming down from the
hills behind the village, ( from the West – Ponente ) - overnight it’s changed
direction, it was coming off the Mediterranean ( from the East – Levante ) for
the past two days, it makes it very pleasant and refreshing, but it’s still
warm, 28 degs+ today, over the weekend it’s a little cooler then next week is
getting warmer by the day, back into the 30s+ - watch this space.
For our supper this evening we are having ‘
Goujons of Hake Fillet ‘ using breadcrumbs from the local bakery, deep-fried in
Vegetable Oil, with Mushy Peas and hand-cut ( the Vegetable Chef! ) - twice-cooked ‘ Stringfellows’ with Homemade ‘Tartar’
sauce and lots of Lemon Wedges on the side. On Saturday its now ‘ Grilled
Fillet Steaks ‘ with all the trimmings, on Sunday we are fancying ‘ Lamb ‘ –

This weekend on the sports front it’s all
happening; tomorrow morning, down in Wellington, on New Zealand’s North Island,
it’s the second test match as the New Zealand – ‘All Blacks’ welcome the
British and Irish ‘Lions’ Later in the day in Dusseldorf, Germany, the “ Tour
de France “ starts, over 21 stages, over the next three weeks, Chris Froome is
the favourite.
Next week we have no plans or appointments,
at the moment, ‘Scooby’ is with us until Thursday, ‘Reina’ is back for four
days from Monday.
On Thursday evening in the ‘Casa De Los
Torres’- the Cultural Centre – just around the corner in the next street, it’s
the start of four concerts, the first is a ‘Jazz’ concert featuring the son of
Fernando, the head of the School of Music and leader of the Manilva Brass Band,
on the trombone, it ends on the 25th July with the annual concert in
Call Mar by the Manilva Brass Band, then the next day it’s the ‘Festival De Santa
Ana, with processions and dancing, followed by over the next three day, for the
first time in the village, after 11 years, the return of the ‘Feria’- the main social
gathering with music, singing, dancing, eating & drinking and all the fun
of the fair!
Meanwhile down in
Sabinillas, Puerto de la Duquesa & Castillo de la Duquesa there are various
festivals etc, a Full Moon party,
Medieval Markets, a Rock festival, the Fisherman’s festival, Flamenco shows and
various sports events down in the Sports complex in the village, watch this
