A VERY HOT & SUNNY MANILVA ON 'ROMERIA' SATURDAY.

SATURDAY 8th/ JUNE 2019.    “ WORLD GIN DAY “

We had a little lie in this morning, as usual on a Saturday morning the village is quieter than normal, no children on their way to school, no workers passing, no deliveries until later, no neighbours out gossiping and the church bells don’t start ringing, calling the faithful to the ‘ Romeria Mass’ until 10-30am!

Later the procession passes along’ Calle Mar’ on the way down to the ‘Romeria’ ground, next to the small church, by the ‘Roman Baths’ in the valley below the village.

‘Lolo’ spent the night on ‘Reina’s duvet, at the foot of the bed on Brenda’s side, as usual, ‘Scooby’ ( with a ‘y’ not ‘ie’!) goes on a large blanket on my side of the bed, next to the window, they are both getting on very well, eating all their various foods and finding their  ‘ spots’ – Brenda took them out for their first walk of the day, as I overslept!

As usual on a Saturday morning Brenda was on the breakfast rota so I had her famous ‘ Campo’ Poached Eggs on Toast, scrambled for herself on brown toast, with mugs of strong/ hot tea.

She is then washing/shampooing her hair, meanwhile I shot up to the office/studio to type/post today’s Blog, after checking all the ‘E-Mails, Facebook messages etc, before going online on the ‘WWW’ to catch up with all the news.

The latest ‘ Hot’ news is that the Mayor, Mario, our friend & neighbour is back in power and will remain the Mayor ( Compromiso Party )  for the next four years! He made and signed, yesterday, an agreement to govern in partnership with the ‘PSOE’ party and their leader Diego, giving them a combined 10 seats ( min 9 seats to govern)  - leaving the ‘ IU’ party in opposition, he had indicated to us the other day that he was trying to form a coalition, the other night on our walk, we spoke to ‘Diego’ as he came out of the ‘PSOE’ office in Calle Mar and he indicated that something was about to happen and looked very happy, as he will become the Deputy Mayor!

This morning the sun was out first thing, the sky is bright blue and cloudless, there is a slight breeze, so we are in for another hot & sunny day down here on the ‘ Costa Del Sol ‘ – by lunchtime reaching 26 degs+ -  tomorrow even warmer, next week, on Monday, it will be 29 degs’ – then sadly it’s now going a little cooler, as the tail ends of all the storms hitting Northern Spain and parts of Europe, are due to hit us, taking the overall temperatures down to 23 degs+ - with patchy clouds, the breeze is stiffening and even some of the ‘ wet-stuff’ returning, very unusual for the time of the year, by next weekend we will be back to normal ,watch this space.

Over in Everett, Ontario, Canada, Sandra and all the family are getting rather excited, she has started a ‘ Countdown’ – with just 3 months and 21 days to go, until they all arrive down here in Sunny Manilva, we can’t wait!!

On the sports front this weekend; over in Montreal, it’s the ‘Canadian Grand Prix’- qualifying today, the race tomorrow, the Horse racing this afternoon is from Haydock Park, Beverley & Newmarket, the Final of the ‘Ladies French Open Tennis’ is this afternoon, in Paris, weather permitting, meanwhile in France the “ Women’s World Cup “ football kicked off last night, as France beat South Korea 4-0 – on Sunday England play Scotland in their group match.

At lunchtime we went along to 'Bar Castillo' for a nice cool drink, sat in the shade with both of the dogs, our friend Joise came along and joined us, for some very nice ' Fishy' Tapas.

For our supper this evening we are having a large ‘Rib of Beef  - A Chulta ‘ – cooked on a very hot griddle-plate ‘Med-Rare’ – then left to rest, before taking it off the bone and carving it into slices ‘French ‘ style, garnished with seared Asparagus Spears & Button Mushrooms, served with a classic ‘ Bearnaise’ sauce & Dijon Mustard, with whole Baby ‘ French’ Green Beans and of course, triple cooked ‘ French Fries’!

On Sunday as we are not ‘Roasting’ – so it’s going to be ‘Baked Pork Loin Steaks’ topped with a ‘Mixed Herb’ crust and served with glazed ‘ Fuji ’ Apple slices, a selection of Vegetables and, for the first time ‘ Pommes Anna ‘ – a classic dish of sliced potatoes, layered in a round pan( en Cocotte) - cooked in lots of clarified butter, until they form a ‘ cake’ – golden & crisp all over, as it’s turned in the pan! Watch this space as it’s one of the most difficult potato dishes to perfect!!

See below, as they should look!

After supper we will settle down to watch the start of the new series of the very exciting and gripping, award winning  “Killing Eve “ as the ‘MI5’ officer, who is desk-bound & bored, goes after the very talented killer ‘ Villanelle’ – who she stabbed at the end of the last series?!  Watch this space.

Thoughts for the Day;  See above.
