I was up early again this morning to see ‘
Reina’ back with us for the day, as usual she shot upstairs and joined us for a
little lie in, before going into her duvet, outside the office/studio as we freshened
up, we then had, our favourite ‘ Toasted Crispy Bacon ( Spanish) Butties ‘ –
smothered in ‘ HP’ Brown sauce, open on brown bread for Brenda, with mugs of
steaming, hot & strong tea, to get the day on the go!
Brenda then made her way along to the local
Chemists in ‘Calle Mar’ through all the works, for some of our prescription tablets,
I meanwhile retired upstairs to the office/studio to go on the ‘WWW’ to catch
up with the ‘E-Mails, Facebook Messages ‘ etc before reading the online
newspapers and then typing/posting today’s Blog.
This morning has started grey &
overcast, there is a stiff, cold breeze making it rather unpleasant, at the
moment it’s only 8 degs, by lunchtime going up to 12 degs, overnight it dropped
to 3 degs, the sky has now cleared and the sun is out, but it's still the coldest it’s ever been since we arrived down here on the ‘ Costa
Del Sol’ all those years ago! The rest of the week and over the weekend is
staying the same with the possibility of some sunshine on Saturday/Sunday, but
still cold & ‘ crisp’ for the time of the year, Next week is looking the
same, at the moment, but getting a little warmer as the week goes on, watch
this space.
This week’s menu’s have been agreed; this
evening we are having ‘Pan-Seared Lambs Liver ‘ – dusted in seasoned flour,
with Grilled English Pork Sausages & more Crispy Smoked Bacon( Spanish) accompanied
with a sauceboat of a rich Red Wine, Mushroom & Onion/Shallot Gravy, with
Glazed Carrot Batons & Cabbage with Acelgas and ‘ Pommes de Terre Rissolees
‘! On Wednesday it’s ‘ Beef Curry’ with Basmati Rice, then on Thursday it’s ‘left-over’s’
day, Friday is ‘ Fish ‘n Chip ‘ night and on Saturday, as usual we will be
having a ‘ Steak Night’ – Sunday is still TBC, watch this space.
Now for a trip down ‘ memory lane’ – we have
just had a nice ‘Facebook’ message from Jason & Donna, his lovely wife, who still live on the Wirral, we
have know Jason from when he was a baby, his Dad & Mum, Bill & Stella,
where our very dear friends, from back in the late 60s when I was the ‘
Assistant Manager of the ‘ Bridge Inn’ in Port Sunlight on the Wirral, where I
met Brenda! They were part of the ‘ Saturday Lunchtime Set’ drinking ‘Moet et
Chandon’ at ‘30 bob’ a bottle!! Sadly Bill died a few years ago and Stella is
now living down ‘ south’ with her daughter Rachel.
We became great friends and spent a lot of
time with all the family as they grew up, with Jason, his bother Richard &
sister Rachel, we used to ‘ party ‘ a lot harder in those days, also at
Christmas we stayed with Jason’s grandfather ‘ Mr Fearns ‘ – he was a ‘
gentleman’ of the old class, he had a very large business down in New Ferry,
Birkenhead, it was the largest ‘Trouser’ manufacture in the country, at the
time, his main contract was with ‘ Marks & Spencer’ – on a Sunday he used
to cook the ‘ Family Roast’ at his house in Prenton, he roasted whole ‘Fillets
of Scottish Beef’ and made the Red Wine Gravy with a bottle of ‘ Chateau
Lafite-Rothschild 1963/66 ! – which we also drank as well!! At Christmas, for
the family Xmas Dinner, he always had 3/4 waiters serving us, they were from
the ‘Bowler Hat Club, Hotel & Restaurant’ – after they had finished serving
the Christmas Lunch at the hotel! One of our favourite ‘ watering holes’ at
that time, amongst many!
Back to Jason & Donna, she was born and
brought up in New Zealand, they have two lovely daughters, Emily & Alicia,
who have ended up back in Auckland, living & working, as it happens, when
they were both 19, they have New Zealand citizenship, the folks are coming over
at the start of June for a friends 50th birthday, who lives down the
coast, past Marbella in ‘ La Cala ‘ – so they are coming to stay/visit us for a
couple of days before they go to the celebrations! We can’t wait to see them
again, after all those years, for a good catch up/gossip, they were married nearly
29 years ago, so we will have a lot to catch up on!
Last night after supper we watched the
final two-part episode of this year’s excellent series of “ Silent Witness “ – the
second is on Wednesday, as the team, on ‘Christmas Day’ – despite all the trees
being in ‘ full bloom’?! - became embroiled in a terrifying shoot-out scenario,
finding three bodies shot dead, then the main character, played by Emily Fox,
forced to run through the forest, from gunfire, only to find a dying horse and
teenage girl nursing another gunshot wound, meanwhile a young lady detective
was shot outside the house, where all the killings took place, an evidence gun
went missing and a senior detective on the case seemingly covering up a more
sinister reason for the killings, as one of the team said “ This is all wrong “ Watch this space.
Thoughts for the Day; See above.
