A VERY ' CRISP' AND SUNNY MANILVA ON FRIDAY AT THE START OF THE ' NEW YEARS EVE WEEKEND'

FRIDAY 28th/ DECEMBER 2018.

I was up very early this morning, and after a quick freshen-up I shot off on my travels down to Sabinillas, for the last weekly shopping of 2018!  I had a quick toast & tea in ‘ itZabar’ before ‘ Mercadona’ opened, then collected the local newspapers from the ‘ English Bookshop’ I dropped down into the ‘ Puerto de la Duquesa Marina’ to call into the ‘ English Butchers’ as they also have a excellent ‘Cheese Counter’ – it was then time to shoot along to the local market, at the far end of the main promenade in Sabinillas, for our fresh flowers & wall plants ( on offer!) – next stopping at ‘ Super Sol’ for the fresh bread, before shooting back up the hill, through the Vine Fields, where they are burning all the old vines etc, to unload back at the house.

I then put the car away, which Pedro, from the Garage, had dropped off later yesterday afternoon, it passed it’s ‘ Free-Re Take ‘ inspection at the ‘ ITV – MOT’ station in Estepona, after 2/3 more trips across as the station was still very busy. I also checked out the space I have reserved in the lower underground car park for Tim when the folks arrive on Sunday.

Back at the house both the dogs slept with us, ‘Chico’ on his blanket and ‘ Charlie’ on the rug by the side of the bed, on Brenda’s side, he then went on the bed, on my pillow, as I was getting ready! Brenda then took them for their first walk of the day around the bottom of the village, as usual. ‘Chispa’ has been calling in & out to see them and joined us, the other day on our walk and as we sat outside ‘ Bar Rojas ‘

As I set off the morning it was very ‘ Crisp’ grey & overcast, with lots of black clouds still around, by the time I came back up to the village the sun had broken through and it was clearing up, the sky was blue and there was a light breeze, keeping it ‘ Sharp’ on the shady side of the street – by lunchtime it’s due to reach 16 degs+  - over the weekend it’s staying the same, with still the threat of the ‘ wet-stuff’ in the air, ‘ New Years Eve’ should be dry, then the rest of next week is looking settled and dry but still cool for the time of the year, hovering in the mid ‘ Teens’ Watch this space.

For our supper this evening we are having ‘ Pan-Seared Salmon Steaks ‘ – from the tail-end, finished ‘ a la Meuniere’ style, accompanied with Broccoli Florets & Garden Peas, with Baby New Potatoes in their skins, on Saturday it’s ‘Grilled Fillet Steaks’ with all the trimmings and of course twice-cooked ‘ Frits’ – then we are in for various banquets with the ‘ State Visit’ over 3 / 4 days of the ‘ Moffatt’s from Mojacar! Watch this space.

Over the ‘ Christmas’ celebrations we have been watching the ‘English TV’ channels, which as usual over ‘Xmas’ are very poor, all the old classic films have been on, along with lots of ‘ repeats’ etc, we have managed to find a very good documentary on ‘ Norman Wisdom’ as well as ‘ Morecambe & Wise’ and ‘Tommy Cooper’  and the best ever episode of the ‘ Royal Family’ from 2018 – with the ‘ Frozen Turkey’ the star!

The ‘National Hunt Racing’ over the past couple of days was very exciting and the ‘Football’ coverage, from the ‘UK & Europe’ was also very good and comprehensive, there are some new series re-appearing into the New Year, which we are looking forward too, watch this space.

Thoughts for the Day;  See above.
