SUNNY MANILVA AND SABINILLAS TODAY
THURSDAY 4th/
JULY 2013.
It was time
for a little lie in this morning until were awoken by the street cleaners jet
washing our street; the council ever month washes down all the streets and
every few months they give special attention to the parts that need it with the
jet wash!
This
morning Brenda has gone down to the beach on the bus as our doctor yesterday
recommended that she bath in sea water from time to time as it would be good
for her circulation especially her legs and feet. The ‘Girl’ as just got back
after her adventure-safe and sound!
In the new
park this morning there was over 12 workmen going at it full pelt, they are
observably aiming to get it finished by September 1ST As you can
see!
I saw her
off on the bus and then came back to the house and into the kitchen to make
another bowl of my now famous Spanish ‘Ensaladilla Rusa’ invented by a Russian
in the late XIX century, I had with Brenda’s help before she left prepared all
the ingredients.
As you can
see I’ am now on the WWW.catching up with
all the news,e-mails etc. On ‘facebook’ last night a picture appeared on the
‘Colwyn Bay Past and Present’ page were I have got my Colwyn Bay pictures from
in the past, it showed the ‘Hotel Seventy Degrees’in the late 1970s! Lots of
comment have now appeared, all good, including one from a very loyal and hard working
friend Lynda who worked as a waitress for us for many years and now runs a very
successful soft furnishing business in Old Colwyn – she in fact did all the
curtains and blinds in our house in Rhyd-y Foel as one of her first jobs! The
picture is from the late 70s as all the signage is the ones that we put up, the
fountain that I had built, I drew what I wanted on a back off a envelope and
also you can make out our ‘Brown Volvo Estate’ parked in it’s spot! Memories mostly happy!
This
afternoon I will follow on TDP the 6th stage of the ‘Tour de France’
which today starts in Aix-en-Provence and ends up in Montpellier along the
coast of the ‘Languedoc’ region over 177kms – it is a flat sprinters stage so
watch out for another Mark Cavendish win! See the pictures above of the spectacular 'Languedoc' region around Montpellier.
30kms from the finish Mark Cavendish had a nasty fall,he got back on his bike and was over 35 seconds behind the leaders;he managed to get back to the front of the main bunch with the help of his team mates,as they sprinted into Montpellier - but sadly he could only manage 4th after he had expanded so much energy getting back into the race! The German rider Andre Greipel won and Peter Sagan was second, normally both these riders are behind Cavendish in the sprint!! The South African rider Daryl Impey has taken over the Yellow jersey, the first rider from his country to do so.

SUNNY MANILVA ON WEDNESDAY
WEDNESDAY 3rd/JULY
2013.
We were up
bright and early this morning as we had appointments at the surgery with our
doctor for check ups; it’s now getting hotter during the night and today as we
walked around to the surgery it was already reaching nearly 30degs! The
forecast for the weekend is going up to the mid-30s and up in Seville it will be over 40degs!
We are both
fine and all our readings are looking good, my weight loss and blood pressure
are both down and Brenda’s Cholesterol level was very good. just a little blip
on the Liver readings so it’s drink more water and cut down on the Alcohol –
good news and bad news!
When we
came back I made tonight’s supper – ‘Chicken Curry ’with Brenda’s famous
‘Basmati Rice’ which we are having with Garden Peas and sliced Banana.
The
pictures above show the on-going work on the pavement along ‘Calle Cruses’ this
morning and it’s all hands to the pumps in the new ‘Plaza Vendimia’as they
start to lay the flagstones, the promised aim is to have it finished and ready
for the “ Vendimia Festival ”over the weekend of 31st Aug/1st
September! Waite and see!!
I have put
on a couple of pictures taken this morning in Sydney Harbor by our old bank
manager Wynne, she is ‘Doing’ Australia and following the ‘Lions ‘around at the same
time – she is having a “ Helluva” holiday!
This
afternoon I will watch the ‘Tour de France’ stage 5 which is from ‘
Cagnes-sur-Mer to Marseille over a long 229kms – Marseille’s is the oldest city
in France and was founded by Greek sailors back in 600BC!
More pictures to follow; this weekend on Saturday there is a classic car rally
starting in ‘Castillo De La Duquesa’- hopefully it will come through the
village later!
Last night
we watched the final of the ‘Spanish Master Chef’- the main guest judge was
‘Feran Adria’ considered for several
years the best chef in the world at the now closed “ El Buli ” 3 ‘Michelin’ starred restaurant in ‘Roses’
on the Costa Brave above Barcelona, along with the three regular judges they
choose in the end the correct winner - just, Juan Manuel !

TUESDAY 2nd/JULY
2013.
This
morning it is hot already and the forecast for the next few days and over the
weekend is getting hotter; after our early morning showers we have just got
back from our walk around the village without the dog! I think we will need one
of those pretend dog leads that stick out in front of you, without a dog! We
are missing her already!!
Brenda is
now pottering about getting her vegetables ready for tonight’s supper and I’ve
come up into the office to catch up on e-mails,facebook,read all the on-line
newspapers, both English and Spanish and check out the WWW.
This
afternoon I will watch the ‘Tour de France’ team-time-trial 4th
stage around the flat streets of Nice over 25kms; the clock stops when the
fifth rider crosses the line!
Australia's Simon Gerrans took the leader's Yellow jersey after his 'Orica GreenEdge' squad won the team time trial by 1 second! Mark Cavendish's 'Omega Pharma-Quick-Step' outfit came second and 'Team Sky' with Chris Froome were third,3 seconds back! Geraint Thomas rode with a broken Pelvis for the 'Sky' team!In the overall standings Froome is 7th with Contador 12th and Cadel Evans 28th! See the pictures above of Nice this afternoon.

TOUR DE FRANCE STAGE 3 THIS AFTERNOON ON CORSICA
MONDAY 1st/
JULY 2013.
The
spectacular pictures above are taken from the helicopter shots this afternoon
on the ‘TDP’ Sports Channel of the 3RD stage of the ‘Tour de France’
on Corsica as it went up the coast from Ajacco to Calvi over 146kms; the town
of Calvi looks terrific and the coast road is rather special, a ‘Helluva’ stage
– I took the pictures with my Casio camera off the large screen TV!
Today’s
winner was the Australian rider Simon Gerrans, his first stage win in the tour
and also his team,’Orica Greenedge’s’also! On Saturday it was their team bus
that caused all the chaos on the finish line when it got stuck!!

SUNNY MANILVA AT THE START OF ANOTHER HOT WEEK.
MONDAY 1st/
JULY 2013.
This
morning I shot round to the surgery first thing to make some appointments with
our Doctor for updates and check ups; when I got back we went for a long walk
around the village with dog as you can see in the pictures above, we don’t know when we will see her next as all the
family are moving down to their ‘Campo’ in the valley below the village for the
next few weeks – we will miss her terribly!
After the
big exciting weekend of sport I’ am in the office this lunchtime catching up on
the WWW; then this afternoon I will watch the ‘Tour de France’- stage 3 from
Ajaccio up the hilly West coast to Calvi over 146kms – the picture’s from the
helicopter coverage are spectacular and show how beautiful the Island is! They
then transfer back to France on an hour long flight for
tomorrow’s stage 4 which is a ‘Team-Time-Trial’ over 25kms around Nice.
Tonight for
supper we are having a ‘Sexton Mixed Grill’ after raiding the deep-freeze;
Steak, Lamb Cutlets, Pork Escalopes,Sausage,Smoked Bacon,Tomato, sautéed
Mushrooms and Onions with a fried ‘Campo Egg’ on mine and some of last nights
‘Boulangere potatoes’!! That should keep us going until the next feast!!!
FILMS OVER
THE WEEKEND;
We watched
“ Great Expectations” from 1998 – the ‘Re-make’ with a young and gorgeous
Gwyneth Paltrow,Ethan Hawks, Robert de Niro and Ann Bancroft in the main parts,
it follows the story and keeps to the tale but is based in New York and down on
the Gulf in Louisiana in modern times!!
Then we
caught a film that you can watch again even if you have seen it before; “
Chocolat” from 2000 with the very ‘French’and beautiful actress Juliete Binoche
with Lena Olin,Judy Dench,Lesley Caron and for the ladies Johanny Depp !It was partly filmed in 'Flavigny-sur-0zeran in Burgundy.
The late film on Monday on the film channel was a techno-thriller called " Virtuosity " from 1995 with Denzel Washington as the good guy and Russel Crowe as the bad guy?! Kelly Lynch and Kaley Cuoco play the mother and daughter mixed up in the tale!
