A VERY ' FRESH & CRISP' SUNNY MANILVA ON FRIDAY AT THE START OF THE WEEKEND.

FRIDAY 6th/ MARCH 2020.

I was up very early this morning and after a quick freshen up I shot off on my travels down to Sabinillas for our weekly shopping, ‘Mercadona’ was quiet, I called into the ‘ Halal’ Butchers’ to thank him for last week’s ‘ Leg of Lamb’- before picking up the local newspapers from the ‘ English Bookshop’ – then dropped down to the ‘Puerto de la Duquesa Marina’ to the ‘English Butchers’ for a nice Boned & Rolled ‘Topside of Beef’ for our ‘ Sunday Roast’ – I came back along the promenade to the local market, at the far end, for our fresh flowers & walls plants, lastly calling into ‘ Super Sol’ for the ‘ English’ essentials.

While I was out Brenda called me to say that a ‘Maintenance/Repair  Workmen’ – with no appointment, was at the house to start some of the repair issues that have been outstanding for nearly two years! He’s fitting a new mixer tap in the main kitchen, repairing a window that won’t close in the back small kitchen and fitting a draft-excluder to the front doors and a new mixer spray to one of the taps in the bathroom, as well as grouting around the sinks etc, and now spraying/scraping all the damp spots, in the bedroom and office/studio. It’s a start, but there is still a ‘Helluva’ list still outstanding, we were expecting a visit this coming Monday morning, for somebody to start the work, after the owners called in to let us know the other day ?!  He's now returning on Monday morning to finish the work!!  Watch this space.

When I returned I had a quick toast & tea, Brenda had taken ‘ Chico & Lolo’ out while I was out, ‘Chico’ is due to be collect later today, we as usual will miss him terribly, as he’s such good company, as well as getting on with any of the other dogs, ‘Lolo’ is with us until a week on Monday, little ‘ Miss Bella’ is back next Tuesday/Wednesday & Thursday! Watch this space.

The sun was out over a sparkling Mediterranean as I came down through the bare Vine fields this morning, the sky was clear & blue with a stiff ‘Poinente’ breeze blowing down from the mountains behind the village, so it’s very ‘ fresh & crisp’ to say the least, with lots of sunshine, by lunchtime it’s due to reach 18 degs+ - overnight down to 10 degs, over the weekend staying the same, from Monday, as the breeze drops right down, it’s going to reach 23 degs+ with warm sunshine and a cloudless sky, the rest of the week is the same, hovering in the high ‘ teens’ – 20 degs+ - with warm sunshine and a few patchy clouds at times, next weekend ,as a new windy/wet  ‘ Atlantic’ front comes in we are in for a little unsettled weather, watch this space.

This afternoon the “ HMS Prince of Wales “ is due to set sail, on the high-tide, from the Pier Head in Liverpool after it’s weeks stay, see below some spectacular pictures taken last night! Watch out later for all the departure pictures. See above.

Meanwhile over in Everett, Ontario, Canada, Sandra & Bill yesterday afternoon flew down to Florida to see their friends for a long weekend, in ‘ Fort Myers’ - sadly Sandra is still in pain with her sciatica, so sitting on the plane will not be fun, on Wednesday the folks had a surprise visitor, ‘Jeff’ from Brisbane, he was in Toronto for a couple of days, before carrying onto New York, for the ‘ New York Coffee Festival ‘ – so they had a nice catch-up with all his news, before dropping him off back at the airport. PS; The postcards will be in the post from Florida!

For our supper this evening to end the celebrations for ‘ National Pie Week’ we are having my version of the old classic ‘ Fish Pie’ – a first make a ‘Mirepoix’ of small/diced Vegetables( all the regulars) in a ‘White Wine Veloute’ sauce, poaching the diced Hake & Salmon and adding to the sauce with Mussels & Prawns and chopped Parsley, adjusting the seasoning to taste, and consistency ( Fish stock)  and left to cook-off, then poured into a buttered glass casserole dish to cool-off – before the ‘ Second Chef’ tops-off the dish with her famous ‘ Mashed Potato’ ready to go into a hot oven this evening. Served with finely sliced ‘ French ‘ Green Beans.

After supper we catch up with all the regular programmes that we follow on a Friday evening, before channel hopping later.

Thoughts for the Day;  See above.
