A WARM AND SUNNY MANILVA ON SATURDAY " ANDALUCIA DAY & GLOBAL SCOUSE DAY "

SATURDAY 28th/ FEBRUARY 2015 “ANDALUCIA DAY” & “GLOBAL SCOUSE DAY” !!

No lie in for the wicked this morning as the sun was out early and the sky is blue, there is still a stiff breeze but it’s due to drop later. We freshened ourselves up and for breakfast we had a little treat of Brenda’s famous ‘Campo’ Poached Eggs on Toast with mugs of steaming tea! See below

At the moment the council workmen are getting ready the stage outside the Town Hall at the top of our street; the formal part of the celebrations start with a parade by the Manilva Brass Band along Calle Mar and then the rising of the Andalucia Flag along with the singing of the Andalucia Anthem by the Village Choir and then of course some speeches by the new Mayor Diego Urieta Jimenez to mark the referendum in 1980 when the autonomous region of Andalucia was born!! See the pictures above later.

The second set of pictures are the informal ones, the Manilva TV presenter ,Anna, all dressed up,the stages being set up,the Band of the Music School with Isobel singing and the traditional Vegetable & Bread Soup!.

The rest of the celebrations that take place all day and this evening are not now moving down to the Congress Centre by the sports complex. They are all taking place in Calla Mar with an extra stage!

Now today is also another rather special day as its “Global Scouse Day” which when all true ‘Scousers’ remember their place of birth ( Walton Hospital 24/09/1945!) – 70 years ago this year!! It’s going to be a ‘Helluva’ celebration!! We are having our ‘Scouse’ made to my Mum’s recipe next Wednesday for supper.

Speaking of celebrations, we are preparing to welcome back the ‘Queen of Skelton’ with her consort on Sunday March 29th – they are arriving at Gibraltar Airport on an official ‘State’ visit where the official ‘Red Limousine’ will be waiting to pick then up.

It’s going to be a very busy time for them as in the first week it’s the ‘Semana Santa’ processions here in the village, over in Estepona as it happens, on Saturday 28th March the new ‘ Botanical Gardens & Orchid House’ is due to open and also the new 600 seat ‘Felipe VI’ Theater is also opening around then!! Back here in sunny Manilva all her very loyal citizens have planned various activities and a welcome ‘Banquet’ is in the planning stages! Watch this space.

On Thursday evening we watched on ‘TVE 2’ live coverage of the 2015 “ Drag Queen Carnival ‘Las Palmas’ from Grand Canaria which in hosted by Roberto Herrera & Antonia San Juan in true Carnival style – see some picture below of the Drag Queen stars performing!

'Reina' is with us for the evening while Daniela is singing down at 'La Raspita'!
