OVERCAST BUT STILL WARM IN SUNNY MANILVA AT THE START OF THE WEEKEND;

FRIDAY 11th/ APRIL 2014.

We were up bright and early this morning and after our tea & toast we picked the car up from the car park and went down to the local market for some fresh flowers then carried on down to Sabinilla for the shopping, called into the bank and picked up the papers from the bookshop; after un-packing back at the house we went to the chemists to pick up some prescription and then down to the butchers for our Saturday ‘Steak a la Plancha’

At lunchtime we went for a long walk around the village with the dog as the sky had cleared and the sun had broken through so it was hot; the 'Plaza Pozo Del Rey' is looking good for tomorrow's official opening,the church is ready for tonight's start to the 'Semana Santa ' week,the last touches are being put to the new passage way and the the Plaza de Vendimia' is sparkling, the vine plants in front of the large Mural have their first leaves

As we were walking around we bumped into some folks who are over for a wedding this weekend down in Sotogrande,after talking to them I recommended 'Bar Rojas' ( I should be on commission!) So as we came back I had a little chat with them - 'Welcome' to sunny Manilva Kathryn,Lawrence,Dan,Abi and Amaya ( asleep!)

The menu’s for the weekend have been finalized and approved – tonight we are having ‘Salmon en Croute’ – the tail pieces of Salmon wrapped in puff pastry and baked in the oven, severd on a bed of Spinach with Garden Peas and sautéed Mushrooms on the side with a dish of dry sautéed thick-cut sliced Baked potatoes, accompanied with a sauceboat of ‘Hollandaise’ sauce! See the pictures above.

Tomorrow night we are having ‘Steak a la Plancha’ cooked pink with all the accompaniments and of course twice-cooked frits, on the side this time will be ‘Béarnaise’ sauce; then on Sunday for a change it’s going to be my special ‘Smoked Chicken & Broad Bean Risotto’

The ‘Semana Santa’ festivities start tonight with the religious ceremony and band concert in the newly re-furbished church, and then the local processions start on Palm Sunday with a blessing before the first ‘Tronos – Tableau’ “ La Borriquita ” is paraded through the streets of the village at lunchtime.

Tonight is film night so we will find one to watch later, last night it was rather interesting as the movie was “The Lincoln Lawyer ” from 2011 – from the novel of the same name by Michael Connelly which I have just finished reading! It stars this years ‘Oscar Best Actor’ Matthew McConaughey along with Ryan Phillippe,William H. Macy and Marisa Tomei – surprisingly it follows the book to the letter!

Thoughts for the Day; See above.
