CLEAR AND WARM IN SUNNY MANILVA ON WEDNESDAY;

WEDNESDAY 8^th/ JANUARY 2014.

This morning its yet another fine day down here in sunny Manilva with the sun out and the sky blue as you can see in the pictures above that I took on our walk with the dog later in the morning; after our tea and toast, Brenda went into a small cleaning mode/frenzy of brushing and mopping after taking down the Xmas decorations yesterday- pine needles everywhere!

They are working on the new small ‘Plaza’ in Calle Mar and also in the new passage way the are constructing arches, meanwhile down at the church all the scaffolding is down and this morning they had just dropped off the church pews ready to go back inside; this meant that I was able to get my first picture of the inside of the church after all the restoration work! When will it re-open?!

Over in Manchester yesterday the ‘New Moon Pub Company’ announced via the newspapers and media their fifth ‘Gastro pub’ to be opened in March; David and Paul have acquired premises in the center of Manchester just off ‘St.Peters Square’ on the corner of Fountain street and are going to call it “ Beef and Pudding –Urban Pub and Kitchen”  the name comes from a cartoon painting about the ‘Peterloo Massacre’ in 1819 when the officer in charge of the military said to his troops “Give them no quarter, they want to take our Beef and Pudding from us!” – So they are bringing back ‘Beef & Pudding’ to the people of Manchester!! They have appointed the Head Chef and are gutting the premises of the former ‘Crown Pub’ that you can see in the picture above. Watch this space.

Later this afternoon I’ am going down to Sabinillas to the office that arranges the transfer of Driving Licenses from English to Spanish as its now the law to change it by a certain time – more details later.Booked in for next Wednesday at 5-00pm when all the paperwork/documents/medical will be done and my Spanish Driving License will be issued - hopefully!  

This evening I’ am making a ‘Turkey, Mushroom and Broad Bean Risotto’ for our supper; Brenda is cooking off the Broad Beans and then shelling them, I will lightly cook off the sliced White baby Mushrooms and this evening will then make the Risotto by sweating off finely diced Onions, deglazing them with White wine and then adding the Spanish ‘Brillante Sabroz –Arroz Redondo’ before stirring in slowly the Chicken & Vegetable stock then the ingredients and season to taste!

Last nights film was a ‘Spike Lee’ directed movie called “ Inside Man” from 2006 starring Denzel Washington, Clive Owen, Jodie Foster,Willem Defoe and Christopher Plummer – a tale about a bank robbery/ hostage heist?! - in the center of New York – watch it to the end as there is a sting in the tale!
