A FRESH, DRY AND SUNNY MANILVA, ALHAURIN EL GRANDE & ALHAURIN DE LA TORRES ON WEDNESDAY.

WEDNESDAY 23rd/ OCTOBER 2019.

Just a little lie in this morning and after a quick toast & tea we got ourselves freshened up, suited & booted, in our ‘ Sunday Best ‘! It was then time to set off on our travels to ‘ Alhaurin el Grande ‘ – behind Malaga to meet our dear friend ‘ Joyce Baby’ – we go along the coast road to Marbella and then turn left up the mountain road past Ojen, Monda & Coin, a very fast two-lane ascent round a hundred+ bends, with spectacular views on either side! We then turn left to go along to ‘Alhaurin el Grande’ - which is on set on the side of the ‘Sierra de Mijas’ -  overlooking the ‘Guadalhorce’ valley and the mountains behind.

We arrived at the ‘ Venta Los Chavos’ – where we meet Joyce – it’s on the outskirts of the town – were we had our breakfast, Tostado with Tomate /Garlic & Oil for Brenda, with Coffee, Two ‘ Campo’ Fried Eggs with three rashers of crispy local Bacon for me, with Tostado, and ‘Te Sin Leche – Tea no milk! Joyce then arrived, she had had a nasty fall, outside her house, on the head, above her eye, so we administered an ice-pack!  We then had a good old catch-up with all her news, as she relaxed and took things easy for a little while.

Joyce then took us along to ‘ Alhaurin de la Torre’ ( Tower ) – which we had not been to before, it’s 10 kms, further along the side of the mountains and is a spectacular town, larger then ‘Alhaurin el Grande’ - it has over ten roundabouts, along and through the main part of the town, all with various centre pieces designed by a local architect, there are lots of designer Shops, Bars & Restaurants, as it’s close to Malaga (17 kms) – with good connections, and is the main commuter/residential area, with lots of grand villas and developments.

                                                                   The tree now has 'Pink Umbrellas' hanging all over it!

Joyce then showed us to the grandest Garden Centre ‘ Guzman’ in the centre of the town, it’s unbelievable, with all the ‘Halloween’ displays/decorations, artificial flowers, furniture and goods departments, as well as all the flowers etc!  It’s the largest and finest one we have been to, the flower prices were also very good, we bought two special ‘Begonia’s’ ( Orange & Yellow) as well a new front door mat!

See above some pictures of the ‘Garden Centre Guzman’ – starting with the ‘ Four Witches’!

We then headed back to ‘ Bar Restaurante Venta Los Chavos  ‘ for or lunch,  it’s packed everyday with locals, the car park was full, they were doing over 100 hundred covers on the ‘Three Course Menu Del Dia – 10 Euros’ – it has over 30 starters, 30 main courses and 10 desserts!! ( see the menu below) – Joyce had the ‘ Seafood Soup’ and we had the ‘Prawn Cocktail’ with diced fruit, Joyce had a large ‘Fillet of Hake a la Plancha’  Brenda choose the ‘ Secreto of Iberico Pork’- a special cut of meat, behind the shoulder, only found by the top butchers, I had the ‘ Entrecote-Sirloin Steak’ with a creamy ‘Peppercorn’ sauce with fresh crispy Frits, as you can see below, all very good, large portions and tremendous value, with of course ‘Tinto de Verano ‘ – the desserts we had was the ‘Rice Pudding and Tarte au Flan’ – both traditional and very tasty!

Next we headed back into the centre of the Town and stopped at the best ‘Patteserie/Bakery’ for some cakes, to have back at Joyce’s house with a nice cup of Tea, she lives in a very old three-story townhouse, with just a front door entrance, it’s an ‘Aladdin’s Cave’ – on a very steep/stepped street ‘ Calle Rodahuevos’ – Rolling Eggs ‘ – each year they roll Hard Boiled Eggs ( Campo)  down the street in a race!!

See below;

It was then time to head back down to the coast, as we hit the main mountain pass/road in started to drizzle, as it was going dark, it was a very dangerous decent, as the traffic/lorries coming up the two fast lanes has their headlights full, on with the spray hitting us, at the lower steepest parts, there are over twelve gravel run-offs – if needed!

We ended up back in sunny Manilva having missed the heavy ‘RAIN’!

A memorable and ‘ Helluva’ day out, down and up in the ‘ Costa Del Sol’  with our dear friend ‘Joyce Baby’ – until the next time!

PS; Hope the head bump in OK – black eye ?!
