We had a nice lie in this morning after
last night ‘ State Banquet’ – after freshening up, we had our usual quick toast
& tea, as the weather was looking a lot better, the sun had broken through
and there was no breeze and a clear blue sky, after consulting the local
forecasts, they confirmed that today was going to be warm & sunny, hovering
in the mid 20s, back to normal for the time of the year. Tuesday is still ‘
Damp’ but then on Wednesday/Thursday it’s going to be warm & sunny, watch
this space.
We sent a ‘Facebook’ message to Sandra
& Bill, they came and collected us, from the top of our street, as ‘ Calle
Mar’ was open and we set off, out the back of the village, up into the mountains,
past the Wind Farm, we went on a tour around and into Casares village, finding
spots that we had not seen before, we then went to find the new restaurant that
opened earlier this year, for future reference, eventual we found it “
Sarmiento Bravas Andaluza “ ( closed on Mondays’!) – it was ‘OPEN’ – they have
changed their closing day to Thursday!
So we booked a table, for later and
called into a local ‘Bar/Restaurant’ overlooking the village for a nice cool
drink.
It’s situated on a spectacular corner,
on the side of a hill, with one ‘ Helluva’ view of Casares, we were warmly
welcomed to our table, in the centre of the balcony, on the first floor, the
Bar is on the ground floor, sat outside in the warm sunshine. We ordered our
drinks, from the most comprehensive ‘Wine List’ of local & Spanish wines
that we have seen on our travels, along the ‘ Costa Del Sol’ Sandra & Brenda had two large glasses of
a fine ‘ Varga Real Verdejo’- Bill & I had our usual drinks.
Sandra & Brenda chose from the ‘Three-Course Menu Del Dia’ Sandra had the Green Salad & Brenda the ‘ Cod & Carmenthos Bean Stew’ – Bill had the local ‘ Tomato Salad ‘ For our main course the girls had the ‘ Whole Baby Quail in sauce’ and Bill and I had the ‘ Aged Holstein Beef Burgers ‘ – ‘ Med’ - which were succulent and very tasty, all served with homemade ‘ Crisp’s!
For the girls dessert Sandra had the Water
Melon & Banana with Whipped Cream, Brenda had the Honey Yoghurt, they then
leave the ‘ House ‘ Shot Bottles on the tables, we all had the Limoncello, Brenda
tried the local Pacharan( fermented Sloes) Sandra tried the Creamy Rice Wine,
sprinkled with Nutmeg – and I had 3 / 4 of the same!!
The service and the food was all
excellent, the place has all the nice touches, we good crockery, glasses etc,
we shall return, as they also have a small 8/10 seater ‘Private Dining Room’ –
with the same views!
We then came back down the valley, with a
large ‘Convocation’ of Golden Eagles, soaring
above in the clear blue sky!
Tomorrow morning Sandra & Bill are
joining us for breakfast, ‘ Toasted Crispy Smoked Bacon Butties’ – smothered in
‘ HP ‘ Brown sauce, with ‘ Cava Bucks Fizz ‘ ! We are then going to make
contact with Jack & Lyn, down in Melbourne, on the ‘ Skype’ video, for a
chat-room link up!!
On Wednesday we are going across to
Cadiz & Sanlucar de Barramenda, then
on Thursday I have booked a table at ‘ El Molino Del Santos’ in Benaojan, which
we reach by train through the mountains, Friday, Sandra’s birthday, is still
TBC, watch this space.
Thoughts for the Day; See above.
