A NOW DRY & SUNNY MANILVA ON FRIDAY AT THE START OF A ' HELLUVA' GOURMET WEEKEND.

FRIDAY 19th/ OCTOBER 2018.

We were both up early this morning and after a quick freshen up we set off on our travels down to Sabinillas, as the sun was trying to break through above the Mediterranean. We had arranged to meet Sandra & Bill at ‘ ItZabar ‘ for his excellent ‘ Full English Breakfast ‘ – with Fried Eggs, English Back Bacon & Black Pudding, English Pork Sausage, Tinned Plum Tomatoes, Hash Browns & Baked Beans, all with toast, tea/coffee and Scrambled Eggs on toast with Bacon for Brenda!

The folks then joined us for the main shop in ‘ Mercadona’  - which they are now using, we then popped along to the ‘ English Bookshop’ to introduce them to Steve, as he gave Sandra our address, as the final part of her finding Brenda.  We dropped down into the ‘ Puerto de la Duquesa Marina’ to call into the ‘English Butchers’ - before shooting along to the local market, at the far end of the promenade, for our fresh flowers & wall plants, after dropping them back at their apartment, we shot back up the hill to unload back at the house, just about beating the rain, which followed us around on our travels!

Yesterday we both beat the rain, as at lunchtime it was warm & sunny, the folks walked along to ‘Puerto de la Duquesa’- buying an umbrella on the way, as we were sat outside ‘ Bar Rojas’ – later another storm hit us, then it went dry but colder, the coldest/wet October in the past ten years, it’s forecast to stay dry later, hovering on the 20 degs mark, then tomorrow and on Sunday we are in for more of the ‘ Wet-Stuff’ – getting heavy at times, as the ‘Atlantic’ front crosses over us, Next week is starting with more of the same, but getting warmer & sunny by Tuesday, back into the mid 20s, meanwhile over in Everett, Ontario, Canada, it’s snowing heavy, so Sandra has asked a friend to re-set their air heating, back at the house, for when they return!  Watch this space.

See below the sun set over Gibraltar.

This evening we are taking things easy, the folks are relaxing at their apartment and we are taking things easy, back at the house, we are having a light/simple supper of ‘Grilled Fillets of Hake’ with Broccoli Florets and Garden Peas & Parsley New Potatoes, before catching up with all the news on the TV.

On Saturday evening we are joining Sandra & Bill for our ‘ Steak Night’ down on the promenade at the “ Restaurante El Estribo “ – the ‘Argentinean Steakhouse’ – then on Sunday the folks are joining us for our famous ‘ Roast Sunday Supper ‘ – when we are having, at their request, ‘Roast Leg of Spanish Lamb ‘  - studded with Garlic Cloves & Rosemary, the ‘ Second Chef ‘ is preparing Florets of Broccoli & Cauliflower in a three Cheese sauce, Glazed Carrot Batons with Ginger, Whole ‘ French’ Green Beans and Garden Peas, and with her help I will preparing my now famous ‘ Boulangere’ Potatoes and ‘ Hasselback’ Potatoes, not forgetting the finger-licking Pan Gravy, and at Bill’s request ‘ Mint Jelly & Redcurrant Jelly’!

To start we will have a small selection of ‘Tapas’ – with a glass of chilled ‘ Torres Vina Sol ‘ which Sandra has acquired a taste for, with the main course we will have a fine ‘Rioja Reserva’ and for our dessert it’s going to be ‘ Crepes of Choice’ served with a special ‘Pudding Wine’ – a “ Vidal Icewine “ from the ‘Lakeview Cellars’ on the Niagara Peninsula!!

Next week’s agenda is still TBC – weather permitting, we will try to go to ‘Cadiz & Sanlucar de Barrameda’ and on the train to ‘El Molino Del Santo ‘ up in Benaojan, in the mountains below Ronda, for Sandra’s ‘Birthday Lunch’ – watch this space.
