A VERY WET & WINDY SUNNY MANILVA ON SUNDAY AT THE END OF THE WEEK.

SUNDAY 14th / FEBRUARY 2016.  “ SAINT VALENTINE’S DAY “

We stayed in bed this morning as it was rather damp and nasty outside, overnight the wet stuff and wind picked up and by this morning it was raining ‘cats & dogs’ as forecast! When it rains in Spain is does with a vengeance, we can’t complain as its the first serious bad weather that we have had in nearly 10 months!!  The forecast was just for today so hopefully it will pick up for the start of next week and we will be back to normal for this time of the year, watch this space.

So for our breakfast we decided to have ‘Smoked Bacon Butties’ ( smeared with HP sauce!) with a large mug of steaming tea to set us up for the day ahead, its defiantly an at home day, taking things easy and relaxing, not in front of a warm fire but huddled on the settee next to our little oil fired heater, ‘Darby & Joan’ style with the TV to keep us company! Oh and yes our two Valentines cards on show!!

As I’m typing and posting the Blog I’m listening to ‘Castle Radio FM 89.2’ on the second screen via the internet, I’m waiting for an E-Mail from Andrew about my radio show, watch this space and listen out for the news update!

Just a quick update on the sports news from yesterday: Everton were beaten at home 0-1 by West Brom, the two Brian’s will not be very happy! Over here Real Madrid won 4-2 with Ronaldo scoring 2, the Horse Racing was very good from Newbury & Warwick, nest week its featuring racing from three courses, over in Paris in the ‘Six Nations Rugby Union’ France beat Ireland 10-9 in a dire match with both teams not playing well, meanwhile down in Cardiff at the ‘Millennium-Principality Stadium’ with the roof closed Wales beat Scotland 27-23 as George North scored a marvellous  individual try as both teams played some very good rugby!

For our ‘ Valentine’s’ supper this evening we are having “ Poulet Saute Marengo” – Napoleon’s favourite dish ( as well as Josephine!) after he won the ‘Battle of Marengo’ in Italy on the 14th June 1800, he asked his Chef, Durand, for something special and he found in the farmyard a Chicken and some ‘Escrevisse – Crayfish’ in a pond! Its a Poached ‘Breast of Chicken’ coated in a rich Lobster Bisque and garnished with Prawns, then topped with a Poached Egg – honest! We are having Parsley Baby New Potatoes with finely sliced Green Beans with the dish and for Brenda some Asparagus Spears.  See below;

For our dessert its going to be another old classic ‘ Strawberries Romanoff’ created by a member of Russian royalty ‘Michael Romanoff’ at his restaurant in Beverly Hills! Its basically Strawberries marinated in a Liqueur and folded into whipped cream – not for the ‘kids’!

After our long sports afternoon on TV yesterday we then watched some Channel 4 programmes as Penelope Keith explored ‘Hidden Villages’ in Dorset & Cornwall and Timothy West & Prunella Scales travelled along the ‘Oxford Canal’!! From the sublime to the ridiculous as we watched the late film on TVE1 as Jason Statham caused some ‘Meyham’ in San Francisco!

Thoughts for the Day; See above.
