A VERY WARM & SUNNY MANILVA ON ' GOOD FRIDAY' AT THE START OF THE 'EASTER ' WEEKEND,

FRIDAY 25th / MARCH 2016        “ GOOD FRIDAY “

We had a nice long lie in this morning, the village is very quiet as its a ‘Bank Holiday’ like yesterday here in Spain, we then had ‘ Crispy Smoked Bacon toasted Butties’ with a large mug of steaming tea for our breakfast, we then decided that it was time for Brenda to try and go up the stairs for a proper shower, for the first time in five weeks! No more ‘ Bed Baths’!  She made it and has now decided to sort things out on the first floor including getting the bedroom back to her liking as well as a little ironing, watch this space!!

The sun was out early and the sky is bright blue, there was a little breeze overnight so all the washing is coming in off the roof patio later, the forecast for the weekend and into the start of next week is looking settled with more sunshine, today its due to reach the ‘heady heights’ of 23 degs! Last night it was rather cool but still very pleasant as I went out to follow the procession of ‘ Jesus Nazareno’ along Calle Mar.

Just before I left the ‘Skype’ video came online from Melbourne as Jack & Lyn were back from their two week holiday, so we had a good catch up with all their news and while we were talking Lyn’s oldest daughter, Deb called in to see them, so she joined in, they look like sisters, its was the first time that I/we have spoken to her in over 40 years! It was very nice to see her despite her having a broken arm from a horse incident! In a couple of weeks time its Deb’s birthday , 60 years young, she was a  one year old ‘baby in arms’ when Lyn left for Australia!! The picture below shows them on the video!

I then made my way up to Calle Mar, with my ‘Brotherhood’s Medallion’ around my neck, where Juan in ‘Bar Castillo’ asked me to join him for a drink before the parade came along, we had a nice chat with one of his regulars, see the picture below of the deserted street. The pictures of the procession are above.

Yesterday another one of our ‘Pensions’ arrived in our Spanish Bank Account early, last weeks was also early, due to the ‘Bank Holidays’ over here, in the UK and in the USA where the ‘International Pension Service’ banks?! The very bad news it that they are down again on last months as the Euro continues to fall against the Pound, we are now nearly 150 Euros out of pocket each month!! Watch this space.

For our supper this evening we are having the whole  ‘Baked Rodaballo – Turbot- en Horno’ with lots of Lemon Juice, Butter & Parsley; Baby New Potatoes, steamed Broccoli Florets & Garden Peas.Of course this afternoon we had our ' Hot Cross Buns' with our cup of tea, see below!

We will have it after I return from tonight’s ‘ Procesion Del Santo Entierro Y Ntra. Sra. De Los Dolores’ when all the senior ladies of the village dress up in their finest Black ‘court’ dresses with the classic ‘ Mantilla’ combs in their hair, see the pictures on tomorrows Blog.

Last night after our supper we watched the first new episode of “ Line of Duty “ on BBC 2 – its very realistic as the ‘AC-12’ Police Corruption’ department investigate a shooting of a criminal by a specialist fire arms squad led by Danny Mays, he just so menacing, violent and as it turns out a ‘ killer’ policeman with a gun! The cast of Adrian Dunbar, Vicky McClure, Martin Compston are excellent, very watchable and we can’t wait for next weeks episode as there was surprise shooting at the end of this weeks!!

The Liverpool pictures below show the ' Pier Head' from a different direction, last night, and the two Cathedrals - on the left the ' Metropolitan' and on the right the ' Anglican'

Thoughts for the Day; See above.
