A CRISP AND DRY SUNNY MANILVA ON TUESDAY " THREE KINGS DAY "

TUESDAY 6th/ JANUARY 2015.  “THREE KINGS DAY”

I was up early this morning to welcome little princess ‘Reina’ for the day, she is coming back on Thursday; she shoots upstairs and goes into her duvet across the foot of the bed, we all then fall a sleep again! Its very quiet in the village this morning as it’s a bank holiday for the ‘Three Kings Day’ so the only sound is the children playing in the street with their toys, the celebration is their ‘Christmas Day’

At the moment the sun is still trying to brake through but no doubt it will later as the forecast is for 17degs today and then more of the same for the rest of the week. It’s still very cold at night and in some places even down here on the ‘Costa Del Sol’ it can drop by nearly 20degs! Honest!!

So today we are having one of our at home days catching up with the chores around the house, later we are taking the Xmas decorations down and packing them away for another year, we are going to update/change the Xmas tree and lights for this year as we have had them for quite a few years now!

At the moment Brenda is washing her hair ready for tomorrows lunch out with Joyce ‘ Baby’ I’m doing mine in the morning! The outfits are chosen and we will take a picture of then before we leave at lunchtime tomorrow; watch this space.

For our supper this evening we are having at the request of Brenda ‘Honey Glazed Baked Ham’ – its on the stove boiling at the moment and I will finish it this evening using local Honey and I will stud it with Cloves as our friend Gillian gave us some before she left for England – thanks! With it we are having a Parsley sauce, Garden Peas and a few New Baby Saffron Potatoes. See the pictures below;

Over in England in the 'FA Cup' third round Liverpool won 0-2 when their legendary Captain Steven  Gerrard scored both goals!

Last night after our supper we found a film to watch from 2013 for a change! “The Last Stand” with Arnold Schwarzenegger as a Sheriff of a small town in Texas on the border with Mexico, with Forrest Whitaker as the FBI agent and also Rodrigo Santoro as the ‘Baddie’

After it finished I found on TVE 2 a fascinating documentary about the one of the most famous ‘iconic’ pictures even taken; is shows eleven steel workers/erectors sitting on a beam having their lunch, it was taken by an ‘un-known’ newspaper photographer, The documentary then told the story of the hunt to identify him and the workers, all immigrants, two of whom were Irish, they interviewed their sons, now old themselves, back in a old village in Southern Ireland.

The picture was taken on the 69th floor of the ‘RCA’ skyscraper at over 840 feet on the 20th September 1932. One of the fascinating facts that immerged was that the actual newspaper photographer’s used to stand on single beams, with out any safety ropes also to take the picture!

Thoughts for the Day; See above.
