MANILVA WEEKEND.

FRIDAY/MONDAY 11TH/14TH FEBRUARY 2011

We went down to catch up with the shopping in the Smart car on Friday morning and found an agents that can help us with changing the car to Spanish plates; the weather continues to stay warm and sunny for the weekend but at the start of next week it is going a little colder – 15degs ! On Friday we always call Tim and Thea over in Colwyn Bay to exchange all our news; he is counting down the days to when he retires in April and they come over to see us for a week. It turned out that in the evening they where going out to the “ Castle Hotel ” in Conwy for a Champagne Dinner organized by our old wine merchant Rodney Densem from Nantwich,the menu sounded very good and the champagne for all the course’s was Perrier Jouet one of our old favorites,we have their hand painted flutes in our glass cabinet in the lounge! In the evening we had Hake in Breadcrumbs for supper with Chips and Peas and then watched the TV.

After a lie and our usual breakfast on a Saturday morning of Poached Eggs on Toast we did the chores around the house, it was so nice Brenda did all the washing and put it out to dry on the roof terrace; in the afternoon I walked down to the Manilva Green Aparthotel to watch the Manchester derby match with Mano who is the night manager and Carlos who is the head of reception, Carlos’s wife Anna Marie also works there; Manchester Utd. won when Rooney scored a spectacular goal with an overhead scissors kick, his best ever and the also the finest goal scored at Old Trafford ! Carlos was not a happy bunny as he lives and breathes Manchester City !! The pictures below where taken from the balcony of the hotel and show the fantastic views down to the coast and back across the hills behind the village. When I got back I then watched the Rugby from Twickerham on the large PC,England murdered Italy and Ashton scored four tries with his swallow dive over the line! Wales also won when they comprehensively beat Scotland. In the evening we had Steak and Chips for dinner before we settled down to watch a film on TV.

On Sunday morning we got the roast on the way,Mano and Anna were joining us in the evening as Mano then goes into work after his sleep in the afternoon, the hotel is busy this weekend with Valentines business and the new Argentinean Buffet is doing very good business,10 euros a head and all you can eat, it is not for the faint hearted as it is five different red meats with Frits and Rice ! We had Roast Loin of Pork with Caramelized Apple, rich pan gravy and Chestnut stuffing, Duck Fat roasted Potatoes and the vegetables from Brenda were Cauliflower and Broccoli Mornay,Carrot Batons, Cabbage with Acelgas,Leek and Mushroom Bake and Garden Peas. Later we watched on the TV the Spanish Oscars “ Goyas ” from the Royal Theatre in Madrid when the Catalan-Language film “ Pa Negre ( Black Bread )” a tale of a family drama in post – civil war Spain took nine trophies including Best Actress, Best Film and Best Director ! Meanwhile over in London at the English Oscars, the " Baftas " the film “ The King’s Speech ” which won the Beat European Film here, was doing the same and taking six awards including the Best Actor for Colin Firth who is also the red hot favourite to win the Oscar next week in Hollywood !

This morning I walked around to the surgery and made an appointment for Brenda to have a check up on her ankle on Wednesday morning; we are having a fresh Prawn Cocktail for Lunch and “ Surf and Turf ” for our Valentines dinner tonight ! Tomorrow we are going down on the bus to Sabinillas to the car agents to check out the prices and details about the Smart car.

PS; Late news - Brian and Lilli are joining us for Valentines dinner so we are now running around to make up a full blown Menu - Watch this space !

Thought for the Day;

The greatest mistake is trying to be more agreeable than you can be.
