MANILVA THIS WEEK.

TUESDAY/SATURDAY 15TH/19TH FEBRUARY 2010.

Tuesday was one of our stay at home days; it was cold and windy with some wet stuff about! We caught up with some little jobs around the house and then took things easy for the rest of the day.

On Wednesday morning Brenda had her two weekly appointment at the doctors to check her ankle, there is some little improvement and he gave her some more ointment and exercises to do, meanwhile I had a very small cyst taken care of on my index finger, the nurse pricked it! When we got back I made a Chicken Curry for dinner and we then settled down to watch the football on the TV and PC.Arsenal beat Barcelona in a pulsating match and Liverpool drew in very slow game.

We did some local shopping on Thursday and then went for a walk with Cheta who had not been out for a couple of days because of the weather; it is slowly getting back to normal and by Monday and Tuesday of next week it is forecast to be 20degs and higher.

First thing on Friday morning we went down to Sabinillas in the Smart car to do the shopping and collect the papers; after we had unpacked we went up to Bar Rojas after a walk with Cheta down through the village, as we approached the Town Hall and Police Station we saw that the new flags had just been put up! The pictures below show them in a light breeze, we saw one of the four councilors that I’ve chased and thanked him but they still need to change the ones outside the Town Hall offices at the top of our street in time for Andalucia Day at the end of February.
As we were sat outside in the sun for our now usual Friday lunchtime drink;Mano and Anna came along separately as he had been to the AGM of the Committee of the “ Los Higueras” urbanization where their house is and she had been doing her favourite things of shopping and drinking coffee ! He had planned a political coup and had changed the committee and got Anna voted in as the President! In the past he was the President but now there will be no living with “ Madam President ” as she would now like to be called – no chance ! The bad news was that the owners of the Aparthotel had cancelled his weeks holiday so we are not needed to house sit this weekend; the really bad news is that Brian and Lilli have decided to move to Finland as Lilli’s mother is going to retire and pass on her business to her; they had spoken to us on Monday about the offer and had made the decision later in the week. they are moving out of their apartment and are going to move into the Aparthotel for a few weeks after Lilli is back from Finland. While we were out shopping I had bought a whole Hake and had it cut into steaks,Mano said that they where having Gambas and Crab Claws for dinner so we pooled things together and they came around in the evening. It was like a Spanish Frito Misto – I floured the Hake steaks and cooked then in deep oil,Spanish style,the Crab Claws were in Breadcrumbs and we peeled the Prawns, Brenda made a crisp Beef Tomato salad and also quickly cooked off some Acelgas on its own, just like Spinach, we also had Tartare sauce and Deep Fried Square Chips ! It was a delicious change and we all enjoyed it so much that we decided to call it the “ The Presidents Inaugural State Dinner ” in Manilva and toasted her in due fashion !!

This morning I was up very early and took Lilli across to the Airport in Malaga; it is a prearranged holiday for her for ten days so it fits in rather well with their future plans and she has left her car with us ! The picture below shows her on her way to Finland via Barcelona, then a change of flight to Riga in Latvia and again on to Tempere in Finland before she is picked up by her dad and ends up in Pori – minus 25degs this evening ! We are really going to miss Big Brian and her as they have become very good friends over the last year since we came back from Tarifa and were looking forward to many more good times together. When I came back from the Airport I picked Brenda up and we went down to Sabinillas for mugs of tea and Bacon and Sausage Butties before we went for a walk along the front, as you can see in the pictures below. Back up in the village we ended up on our walk with Cheta down at the Football stadium watching the match between Manilva and San Pedro,Manilva won 2 – 1 Manilva are in the Blue and White shirts. Tonight is Steak and Frits for supper and then the Football on Spanish TV.

Thought for the Day;

Two wrongs don’t make a right, but they make a good excuse.
