MANILVA ST VALENTINES NIGHT.

MONDAY 14TH FEBRUARY 2011. ST.VALENTINES DAY.

The day started off as just another day but as it went on things changed and we ended up having a “ Helluva ” day,in fact it was the St.Valentines Day Massacre all over again ! We had not planned to do anything and were just going to have the cold Roast Pork and leftovers for supper but as I was out I called into the butchers and picked up a nice piece of Steak instead and when I got back I also pulled out some Prawns for a good old fashioned Prawn Cocktail; the phone went and it was Lilli ringing to catch up with all their news, they are moving from their apartment and are house hunting in the area at the moment, when I asked what they were doing in the evening she said that they had nothing planned and Brian was finishing work at 7-00pm as she got back home. So I asked them around for a St. Valentines Day dinner but had nothing planned !At lunchtime Mano and Anna called in to say thank you for dinner,Mano has a week off work this coming weekend and they might be going away for a couple of days so we will house and dog and cat sit for them! After they left we then put our heads together and scraped around to find what we could do; Manchego Semi-Curado was our starter with a very nice bottle of Cordorniu,Anna de Cordorniu,Rose Brut that we had been saving for a special occasion, I went back to the butchers in the early evening when he re-opened and got another slice of Steak and so for our main course we had “ Surf and Turf ” I pan fried the steaks very quickly, rare, and topped them with the peeled Prawns and foaming Garlic butter, Brenda produced some Green Beans and a crisp Beef Tomato Salad with a very good Vinaigrette dressing and I came up with our current favourite's " Pommes Baitaille " The Marshall’s came around with two bottles of Marques de Caceres, Rioja,Crianza 2007 to help things along ! We picked up some local Strawberries and Cream so I whipped up another good old fashioned “ Strawberry Romanoff ” and popped it into the deep freeze to chill, for our pudding wine we used a vintage reserve bottle of Madeira that had been hiding in the drinks cupboard. To finish we had Pink Caipirinha’s ( A drop of Cassis ) Brian and Lilli left feeling no pain after a memorable evening ! This weekend Lilli is flying to Finland for ten days so she is going to leave her car with us to use after I have dropped her off at the airport early on Saturday morning; Brian does not drive and is staying at home to work and look after their two dogs, we are planning to have a day out with him next Wednesday – watch this space ! The pictures below show the best table in the best restaurant in Manilva ! and the St.Valentines Massacre starting to take shape !!

Thought for the Day;

Never give a party if you will be the most interesting person there.
