LA LINEA DE LA CONCEPCION,TARIFA AND CASTILLO DE LA DUQUESA.

TUESDAY 4th/ SEPTEMBER 2012.

BRIAN AND LILLI HERE IN SUNNY MANILVA TUESDAY – DAY 9.

After a quick freshen up we set off to La Linea de la Concepcion on the way to Tarifa at Brian’s suggestion as he wanted to take us to “ La Bodeguiya ” for early Tapas and show us around the centre of La Linea; we now know were to park and were to go ! ‘ Bodeguiya ’was a very old and even smaller Bar when Brian first discovered it, it has been made larger and modern as you can see in the pictures below. We walked around the centre of La Linea along Calle Real and stopped for a coffee at ‘ Café Modelo ’which is the heart of the town; we then entered ‘Bodeguiya ’ – as you sit at the bar the local Olives come in front of you and Brian treated himself to a bottle or two of his favourite ‘ Gran Reserva Cruz Campo ’ which is to be treated with caution as it is 6.4% ! The food is as good as ever as we choose from a very extensive Tapas menu, the cold thin sliced Pork with a sprinkle of salt was to die for, the fresh Anchovies where a dream and the Chicken, Onion and Mayonnaise in soft bread was also to die for, the others also had some different fillings as there are over two hundred to choose from !

We then headed over the mountains to Tarifa, it was like coming home for us as we spent nearly two year there; The fast ferry from Tanger was just entering the harbour as came down into the old town and stopped for a coffee as you can see, the town was in ‘ Feria ’ mode – all dressed up and busy. We then made our way along the coast to our favourite beach bar for a late snack lunch only to fine that it had new owners and the prices had trebled !! So we did a quick about turn and stopped at a ‘ Chringuitos ’on the beach by Castillo de la Duquesa where Brian and Lilli held the wedding breakfast three years ago after being married in Gibraltar, now there’s another story ! Only to say that Brian lost his family wedding ring while swimming in the sea on the beach in the picture !!

Later in the evening after our siesta’s we went down to the only bar open in the village next to Bodega Augustin for a late drink or two and some Tapas to end a “ Helluva ”day.

Thought for the Day;

Let us be grateful to people who make us happy, they are the charming gardeners who make our sole blossom.
