SUNNY AND HOT MANILVA ON TUESDAY

TUESDAY 10th/ SEPTEMBER 2013.

After an early breakfast this morning Brenda has just gone down on the bus to Sabinillas for her morning walk along the beach, its another glorious day here in sunny Manilva; they are working on the ‘Plaza de la Vendimia’ this morning seeing to the finishing touches, they have started to build a surround to the ‘Roman Ovens’ as you can see in the pictures above; meanwhile work is on-going on the church, will it be ready for Xmas?! And finally they have started to finish the last part to the work on ‘Plaza Pozo Del Rey’

We are missing our walks around the village terrible and are expecting to see Chispa crashing in through the shutters at any moment as she is due home from her nearly eight week ‘Campo Holiday’!

I took the pictures after seeing Brenda on to the bus as I then went down to the butchers to stock up for the next few days; ‘English Cut’ Pork Chops for tonight, a Breast of Local Chicken sliced into Escalope’s for tomorrow’s supper, Chicken Wings for Tapas along with Chicken Albondegas (Meatballs) – he makes two sorts of meatballs, Pork and Chicken – we love Chicken as you can see!

This afternoon I will be watching, hopefully as the ‘Vuelta 2013’ web-page has gone all out of order at the moment so I’ am not sure if it’s a rest day or not! Anyway stage 17 is from Calahorra which is south-east of ‘La Rioja’ into Burgos, over 189km, the capital city of the region of ‘Castile De Leon’ and this year the 2013 ‘Capital of Gastronomy’ in Spain,. We stopped in Burgos in the Winnebago for three days before going down to Bilbao to catch the ferry across to Portsmouth and so know our way around the city, the cathedral is particularly spectacular as you can see in the picture above. It looks like its a rest day today so the above details are for tomorrow!? TBC! Correct !!

Last night at the ‘US Open’ Men’s Tennis final ruthless Nadel beat Djokoic 6-2,3-6,6-4,6-1 to win his second US Open final and his 13th Grand Slam! Also in San Francisco in the ‘ America’s Cup’ the USA team ‘ Oracle’ won their first race by 8 seconds and then the new Zealand team won the next leg.

Tonight it’s the ‘FIFA World Cup’ – qualifying game in the Ukraine v England, it’s a must win match for England! Over her Spain play Chile in a international friendly.Spain just managed to draw 2-2 in the last minute while over in the Ukraine England hung on for a 0-0 draw which is a OK result and leaves them at the moment top of their group !This morning the comments in the papers from last nights England performance go from ' Toothless,Calamity to Awful and worse! Just about right !!

We are still in our afternoon routine of going up on the roof terrace to read and have our ‘Happy Hour’ as it’s keeping warm and sunny; Tonight for supper we are having the Pork Chops baked in the oven in foaming Lemon Butter with Cabbage with Alselgas and Carrots with the rest of the Boulangere Potatoes.

We will then catch a film, last night later on TVE1 I caught a live music concert from the ‘XV1 International Jazz Festival’ of San Javier which is a small town and municipality on the south eastern coast of Murcia on the Mediterranean, it featured the Blues singer ‘Bettye Lavette’ who I had not heard before, she has a belting voice and a really together small group backing her, her versions of some of the classics are very special – catch her if you can!

The late film that Brenda found as I was upstairs watching the England game was " The Last Castle " from 2001 starring Robert Redford and the late James Gandolfini in an Army prison drama which is one to watch for the clash between them as the Governor and the Prisoner!

Thought for the Day; See above.
