MANILVA DURING SEMANA SANTA WEEK

TUESDAY 26th/ MARCH 2013.

Well is was another mixed day, at one moment the sun was out and it was warm and the next overcast and a little breeze; in the morning as we freshened ourselves up for a change I went onto ‘Spotify’ and into my history – it started with ‘The Steve Miller Band’ then ‘Canned Heat’ and we ended up rocking to ‘George Thorogood and the Destroyers’ now that’s what you call music! We then went for our walk around the village with the dog and took some pictures below;

In the afternoon I was reading and Brenda caught up with papers; for supper we had one of our very simple but nice favorite meals, flattened Chicken Breast cooked on the griddle with dry Sauté Potatoes and finely sliced Green Beans, it was then time for the football, on the main large screen TV we had the France v Spain match – Spain won 0-1 and played a lot better than they have done over the last few games; on the PC in my office I watched at the same time the ITV coverage of the Montenegro v England match – the score was 1-1 as England totally outplayed them in the first half but in the second half they played like a ‘Sunday League Team’ and the score could have been a lot worse !

SEMANA SANTA HOLY WEEK CELEBRATIONS;

The processions portray various acts from the arrest, crucifixion and resurrection with the ‘Tronos’ i.e. The Tableaux’s borne by teams of ‘Costaleros’, literally ‘Sack Men’ who form part of the ‘Hermandades’ and ‘Cofiradias’,religious brotherhoods( and Sisterhoods) Other members of the procession dress up in penitential robes with their distinctive ‘Capirotes’ – the tall conical hats. The village brass band led by Fernando accompanies the procession playing traditional religious hymns or ‘Marchas’ written for the occasion.

Thoughts for the Day;

Dreams and dedication are a powerful combination.  Dedicate some of your life to others. Your dedication will not be a sacrifice. It will be an exhilarating experience because it is an intense effort toward a meaningful end.
