MANILVA READY FOR THE WEEKEND AHEAD

TUESDAY 12th/ WEDNESDAY 13th/ THURSDAY 14th/ FEBRUARY 2013

Well the forecast for the four days from Thursday over the weekend is clear skies and hot sun with no breeze; as I am typing this it is just that so we are set for a good three days with David and Jane, over in England it is very cold with snow showers ! On Tuesday morning we sorted our week out ready for the folks visit, Brenda’s got her wardrobe chosen and I have the menus planned, their rooms are made up and we have a ‘ Helluva’ visit mapped out for them!

On Friday evening we are picking them up from the airport in Gibraltar, the hire car is being dropped off at lunchtime on Friday, our car is OK for local running around but we need some comfort and space as we hit the Costa Del Sol; We are going into La Linea to ‘ Bodeguiya’ for some Tapas and then it’s either fish at ‘ La Marina Restaurante’ on the beach in La Linea or traditional Spanish at ‘ Restaurante San Rafael’ down on the coast road before Sabinillas and finally we could go for a ‘ Thai’ at ‘ Restaurante Kinnaree’ in Puerto de la Duquesa! Friday Sorted! For supper on Tuesday we had Braised steak with Baby New Potatoes with Cabbage and Carrots, then Crepes(Shove Tuesday) before channel hopping – on Monday evening I watched the Liverpool v West Brom game on the PC – Liverpool played terrible, Gerrard missed a penalty and they lost 0-2 !

Yesterday, Wednesday we had early appointments at the surgery for prescription updates and when we got back we went for a long walk with dog around the village; at lunchtime Anna called in for a chat and in the evening for supper we had Chicken Curry before we settled down to watch the Real Madrid v Manchester Utd UEFA Champions league – first leg game on the PC – it was 1-1 on the night and Utd’s goalkeeper De Gea played excellent and kept them in the tie; later we watched the “ The Untouchables” from 1987 with Kevin Costner as Eliot Ness, Robert De Niro as Al Capone and Sean Connery with a not very good Irish accent!

Our plan for the folks on Saturday are now in place after speaking to Mano this lunchtime; It’s continental breakfast at home and then we are going to San Lucar de Barrameda to checkout the best market on the coast then onto a seafood extravaganza,Mano has given me a couple of hints, local to the area, ‘ Tapas Culos’ very small baby Soles deep fried and ‘Galeras’ which are a type of Crawfish/Lobster; we will then head back down the coast to Chipiona and then on to Puerto de Sta.Maria which we have not visited before – they are all on the Atlantic coast above Cadiz and we will go up over the mountains to Jerez on a spectacular road – it’s going to be a ‘Helluva’ Day !

Today, Thusday is the best so far, after freshening ourselves up we went for a walk and ended up down at Bodega Augustin where we bumped into Mano and Anna and had a nice lunchtime drink sat outside in the warm sunshine. This evening for supper as requested by Brenda for ‘ Valentines Day’ we are having her favorite Turkey Escalope pan fried in Lime Butter with Rice and a creamed Mushroom sauce. Tonight Liverpool have a nasty match in Zenit St P’sbg in Russia in an UEFA Europa league tie – news later.They lost 0-2 - oh dear!

The agenda for David and Jane on Sunday is following a ‘Full English Breakfast’ of local Smoked Bacon and Campo Eggs with a ‘Sausage Surprise’ – local handmade Sausages from the English butchers in different flavors ! We are then going down to ‘Rastro Ground’ in the valley below the village to the ‘Flea Market’ before we head up the next valley to Casares Golf Club for a drink and then onto Duquesa Gold Club for another! We have been invited to Mano and Anna’s house in the afternoon for a ‘Mediterranean Buffet’al fresco Brunch and more drinks and wine! We will retire back to our house later to end their visit in style with ‘Kir Royal’ and Egg and Chips for supper !!  We are then going to put them on the plane back to England on Monday morning.

Thoughts for the Weekend;

A vacation is having nothing to do and all day to do it in.  A vacation is sunburn at premium prices. No matter what happens, travel gives you a story to tell.
