MANILVA OVER THE WEEKEND.

SATURDAY 23rd/ SUNDAY 24th/ FEBRUARY 2013.

The forecast for the weekend was sun and clear blue skies but rather cold; it was right as the icy blast from Russia just about reached us on Saturday! We had a quiet day at home and in the afternoon I was in the office watching sport on both PCs – I caught the England v France Six Nations Rugby on the small PC as I have found a new system called ‘Film.com’ which allows you to watch English TV and on the large PC I caught the football in the Premier League over in England at the same time; England powered past France and won 23-13 in the end; earlier I had watched the Italy v Wales game from Rome played in a cloudburst – Wales had a surprise win,6-29. Big Brian’s Everton sadly lost away at Norwich 2-1.Over here both Barcelona and Real Madrid had wins.

As I was watching the England game we heard the sound of the ‘ Manilva Carnaval’ parade coming along Calle Mar; I was so engrossed in the England game that I forgot about the parade until Brenda shouted me! So the pictures below were taken in a rush as it passed CafĂ© Nacho, the stilt walkers were new to it and it was Lumy that told us her two sons were in the animal costumes – I took her a Photo paper copy in colour for her to keep and show Manuel and Paco!

For supper we had Minute Steak and Chips for supper, mine topped with a Fried Egg; the late film was a true story about a boxer Rubin ‘Hurricane’ Carter, played by Denzel Washington called “ The Hurricane” from 1999 who is framed for murder and spends over 20 years in prison – watch it ! Rod Steiger pops up near the end in a cameo role as the judge.

On Sunday morning after a lie in we got the roast on the go, a large Chicken from our butcher in the village, with lots of vegetables including Brussels Sprouts with diced Smoked Bacon sippits and Chestnut stuffing. Once again in the afternoon I was in the office watching Scotland squeeze past Ireland and win 12-8 in the rugby and on the large PC I caught the Manchester  City V Chelsea game, City played very well and beat them 2-0 with two excellent goals. Meanwhile Brenda was watching from start to finish “ Lawrence of Arabia ” from 1962 downstairs. Mano and Anna joined us for our Sunday dinner later- after they had gone we watched the film on TVE , with no commercial breaks, “Robin Hood” from 2010 with Russel Crowe,Cate Blanchett,Max von Sydow,Willian Hurt and many other great actors in the story of Robin Hood leading up to the start of the legend.

Thoughts for the Day;

We need not destroy the past. It is gone. The living moment is everything.  Nothing is worth more than this day.
