MANILVA THIS MORNING.

TUESDAY/WEDNESDAY 10th/11th MAY 2011.

On Tuesday morning after our tea and toast we walked around to the surgery to get Brenda’s x-ray checked out, she has broken her toe rather badly and we had to go back later to get the nurse to strap it up; it will take four weeks and another x-ray to make sure that it is OK! On the way back we called into our local butchers and picked up some Pork Cutlets for dinner and also Breasts of Chicken for supper on Wednesday. All over the village the local party election posters have gone up and the various parties are out canvassing and giving out Goody Bags, the best so far has been the PSOE ( Labour ) which amongst all sorts of things had a mechanical torch ! The Mayors party,Izquierda Unida ( Communists ) had coffee mugs and a multi colour pen; we have also been asked out to for drinks but have not shown our hand ! The pictures below show one of the large poster boards with all the candidates on show, the other pictures are of the new Fountain at the entrance to Duquesa Marina with the new Flag Poles and Flags in full flight; perhaps these are the flags that have still not appeared on the Town Hall yet ? !

This morning we have been out to do our final shopping before David and Jane arrive tomorrow lunchtime, Brenda has just finished washing,cleaning,ironing etc. The flags are out and we can’t wait to welcome David on his first visit to Manilva and Jane on her third !
All this week I have been following the Giro D’Italia cycle race on the PC live, it started on Saturday but sadly it has been over shadowed by the death of a young Belgium rider on Monday as he crashed as he was descending, it brings it home that it is a very dangerous sport; the current leader is David Millar from England who takes the Pink jersey( not Yellow as in the Tour De France ) His team, Leopard Trek have just retired from the tour out of respect. We have just been watching the intimate funeral of Seve Ballesteros in his home village of Pedrena in northern Spain near Santander; his three children and three bothers carried his ashes to the church and back to his house above the local golf course over looking the sea, they were escorted by the local rowing club carrying the long sea ors and the local children carried his clubs, very moving.

PS; The village is going mad with fireworks and car horns - Barcelona have just won " La Liga ! for the third time in a row ! Iv'e just been up in Bar Rojas with my whistle,Manolo gave me a hand shake !!

Thought for the Day;

One day you’re the cock of the walk, the next  a feather duster.
