DAY ONE MANILVA THE ROYAL VISIT.

THURSDAY 12TH MAY 2011.

Well the happy couple, David and Jane arrived on time in Gibraltar and rang us as they left after picking up their hire car in La Inea de la Concepecion; Jane had requested the Red Carpet treatment on their arrival and we certainly gave them that, we found it upstairs in a cupboard and when we rolled it out it went right down the street to the bottom ! One “ Helluva ” Red Carpet to start the Royal Visit !! After the quick show round for David, Jane is on her third visit so she is starting to know her way around, we cracked open the first bottle of Pink Cava and soon were catching up with all their news, we then opened a bottle of a special Cava for a round of “ Kir Royal’s ”to go with our selection of local Hams,Cheese,Chorizo and Prawns. The weather forecast was sunny with a light breeze and steadily getting better as the weekend went on; we then walked down to Bodega Augustine to give David his first taste of life in sunny Manilva; a selection of Tapas and drinks soon got the party on the way, after a little siesta we drove over to our local Golf Club in their hire car, a Mercedes B class which they had been upgraded to and which was also very cheap for the four days. As we sat on the terrace for a “ Sundowner “ the views across and the valley and down to the sea were spectacular,Casares Campo de Golf’s “ The Brasserie ”looked after us rather well, the chef /proprietor came and made some suggestions and David and Brenda had the Grilled Turbot and Spinach while Jane and I had Med Rare Fillet Steak and Frits. Further up the valley the next golf course is “ Finca Cortesin ” where the Volvo World Match Play Championship is taking place next week, the course is looking spectacular, all the stands, screens etc,are ready and the weather forecast is sun! Over this weekend Mano’s friend Juan had his first hole in one on the nine hole Casares course ! We then called into Bar Rojas for our first of many CafĂ© Solos and Carajillos’ to end our first day of the royal visit; the pictures below need no explaining.
