GUADALMINA MIJAS AND MANILVA.

THURSDAY/FRIDAY/SATURDAY/SUNDAY 31ST MARCH/1ST/.2N/ 3RD APRIL 2011

Thursday at the villa is the busiest day of the week; the gardener arrives at 8-ooam and works until 4-oopm,Joan’s home help is in for 4/5 hours and the chiropodist was also in to look after Joan. The weather has been gorgeous all week and by the afternoon it is reaching 25 degs.The three dogs are no problem and the two house cats come and go as they please, the fish pond is now very full, they have grown and when you drop the fish food it’s like feeding a pool of Piranhas ! We catch up with English TV channels and watch films and all the live sport in the evenings. We have been eating all our comfort food that we had frozen to take with us; Curry, Chicken and Mushroom Pie, Pork Cutlets, Steak and Chicken Breasts with Brenda’s usual vegetables together with salads. We have been cooking for Joan at the same time so she enjoys the vegetables and we try her on some new things, she is vegetarian and still has a good appetite.

We got ourselves smartened up in the morning and shot across to Mijas to see Joyce; we found the penthouse apartment behind and above the town and were soon on our first bottle of wine sat on the lounge balcony overlooking the town, down to Fuengirola and the mountains across to Gibraltar and Africa on a clear day; it was very hot as we walked down to the local Bar/restaurant for a late and long Spanish lunch. We had a lot of catching up to do as we have not been able to get together over the last couple of years, Joyce has a house in Alhaurin which she is going to for a week after looking after the penthouse for her friend who is away on a cruise. More wine flowed as we ordered some Tapas,Aubergine slices dipped in the local Honey and fried, fried Green Spanish peppers and the house Croquettes to start which came with a loaf of the local Bread. Brenda had the Gallo Frito. Joyce had the Tuna and I had the dish of the day, a whole Leg of Baby Lamb, roasted and served with fresh Patatas Fritas.My Lamb was the star of the show ! We then headed back to the penthouse feeling no pain, the pictures below will give you a little idea of the day.

On Saturday we took things easy in the morning as we watched Saturday Morning Kitchen, one of the Chef’s this week was Spanish and he made posh “ Albondigas con Patatas Fritas ” ! At lunchtime we washed the car and sorted out our packing as we were going to make a quick getaway on Sunday morning; the folks rang from Pisa Airport to say that they where on the way and we picked them up from Malaga Airport at 12-30am,they have been over in Italy making arrangements to sell their house there. They are going back to Italy in May so we will have another week over at the villa to look forward to after David and Jane’s visit.

This morning after dropping off the bags we shot down to Sabinillas and for a change had the Full English Breakfast, well I did, Brenda had a Bacon Buttie while I made my way through Two Sausage, Two Eggs, Two Bacon Rashers, Two Hash Browns, Two Tomatoes and Baked Beans with Two slices of Toast and mugs of tea ! We then went for a walk along the front and called into to see Andy who is now working in the family Bar and Restaurant, on the way back up to the village we stopped at the Aparthotel to catch up with Brian and Lilli but they were still recuperating after the night before as their best friends are over for along weekend – they leave for Finland some time on Monday morning ! We also called into see Mano and Anna,Mano finished work at the Aparthotel on Wednesday and started his new job on Friday morning; he is off on Sunday’s and is still getting used to working normal hours and going to bed at night ! We caught up with all the news and gossip and watched the Motorcycling GP from Jerez,Lorenzo won and the King,Juan Carlos presented the trophy as the huge crowd went mad.Tonight we are taking it easy after unpacking and watching the TV.

Thought for the Day;

Feel the Fear and do it Anyway.

PS; Tonight we had our final session in Bar Rojas,the picture above shows us crossing our own private Zebra Crossing in " Abbey Road " style,taken by Andy.
