MANILVA MUSIC CONCERT - THURSDAY.

THURSDAY 21st JULY 2011.

After an early supper we made our way up to Bar Rojas to start the evening in the right fashion! Calle Mar was already buzzing with families out for the evening, a bouncy castle outside Bar Rojas and face- painters and stalls along the street; the stage was set up over the last two days with a full lighting rig and sound system installed ready for the three concerts and next weeks Santa Ana Festival. We moved along to Bar Ocana which was the nearest bar to the stage and settled in to watch the concert; the new people in the bar looked after us very well. Fernando, who plays the bass guitar in the band, and the School of Music teachers had formed a ‘Hot Combo’ band/sound for the night which was started when they played ‘Watermelon Man’ and all the following tunes were classic/hit numbers with Rock and Roll the main theme! Isobel the singer has a very strong voice as she goes from ‘ Imagine ’to all the great Rock and Roll songs as the night went on; Fernando also did a couple of Clarinet solo’s with the very good and versatile Paco on the piano, he also plays the Hammond Organ with feeling ! They got a standing ovation at the end of their set. Near the end of the concert as the band started to let go and jam I found myself dancing with the Mayor, Antonia and the new Culture Councillor Eva, the audience watches and claps but the only singing comes from our section of the crowd ! They got another standing ovation at the end of the night with calls from all for more! ‘ Perfect ’one of Isobel’s great versions just about sums things up ! We then walked back along on a balmy evening to Bar Rojas for a night cap; the band was treated to drinks and Tapas by the Mayor so the bar was doing a roaring trade as the tables spilled out onto the street to end a “ Helluva “ evening in Manilva. Tonight’s concert we think will be more Spanish music based- watch this space. The pictures below will give you a small insight into the night’s proceedings!!
