MANILVA START OF THE WEEK.

MONDAY/TUESDAY 14th/15th MAY 2012.

We are now into our summer mode; the clothes have changed, my ‘ Jesus ’ sandal’s are out, the duvet has gone away, the fans are on as required, the Mosquito killers are plugged in, the sun bloc is on ( Me ! ) and we are spending more time up on the roof terrace reading and having our early evening cocktails ! The forecast for the week is sun and even getting hotter, in Seville it reached 38 degs over the weekend, it is always the hottest place in Spain. On Monday after our tea and toast we went for a short walk with Cheta around the village on the shaded side of the street as it is now getting very hot and there is very little breeze as the current weather front comes in from North West Africa and the Sahara desert !
Our friend Gillian went on a coach trip last week that was arranged by the Tourism Department of the council to visit Cordoba s you can see in the pictures below and above; The Patio Festival is celebrated during the second and third weeks of the month, many houses of the historic center open their private patios to the public and compete in a contest to find the best display and architecture. They then went on a tour around Cordoba and ended up at the ‘ Great Mosque ’and went around the ‘ Mozquita ’Cordoba has the second largest Old town in Europe with the Great Mosque, many Roman remains and the famous Roman bridge into the city; there are 12 Christian churches ( Many are transformations of Mosques ) after the reconquest of the city in the 13th century. Near the cathedral is the old Jewish quarter which consists of many irregular streets and which is home to the Synagogue and the Sephardic house. The history of the city is fascinating as over the years it changed hands from the Romans,Cathaginians,Muslims,Almoravids and finally the Spanish Reconquista ! Cordoba was one of the most advanced cities in the world as well as a great cultural,political,financial and economic centre back in the 11th/12th centuries. It is on our list for a visit along with Granada and Avila and many more ! Watch this space.
Today we are pottering about the house and keeping cool,I’am taking things easy and not drinking this week as on Thursday I have an appointment at the surgery for all sorts of blood and urine tests to update my records and get ready for my two yearly checks up on the prostrate in June ! Positive thinking – ‘ A strong positive mental attitude will create more miracles than any wonder drug ’

Thought for the Day;

Man is not on earth solely for his own happiness. He is there to realize great things for humanity.
