A VERY OVERCAST, GREY & WET SUNNY MANILVA ON TUESDAY,

TUESDAY 22nd/ NOVEMBER 2016.

We were up early this morning and after a quick freshen up we shot off out on our travels; we stopped at the local garage at the bottom of the hill to top up the petrol, I was then time to go along the coast road past a stormy/rough ‘Mediterranean’ on our way to the Hospital just past Marbella, Brenda appointment was at 10-00am for her second ‘Kidney Ecogram’ – the Hospital was very busy but she went in on time, we then came back along the coast past Sabinillas and carried on to ‘Pueblo Nuevo de Guadiaro’ next to Sotogrande to ‘Iceland
We didn’t call into ‘ Leroy Merlin’ as they had sold out of Oil Heaters, Daniela had seen one in a ‘Ferraterias’ next door to ‘Iceland’ yesterday evening, we shot in and got the last one! We then did our ‘Xmas’ shopping etc for all the English essentials, we then came back up the hill around the 3/4 hairpin bends through the vine fields to a very overcast sunny Manilva, the new Council, with the Mayor, Mario, have been out this morning checking the road and bends out as they are proposing to widen the road for bicycles/cars?! Watch this space.

Overnight we have had very heavy rain storms along with thunder & lightening, this morning it was raining as we set off and the coast road was flooded in places and rather dangerous, it’s still overcast & grey with more showers on the way, it’s the tail-end of the Atlantic storm ‘ Angus’ that is hitting the UK at the moment, tomorrow could be a little dryer but the wet stuff will be back and the weekend is sadly not looking good for our friend Gillian’s visit from Torquay.

One bit of good news is that I’ve managed to book a table for our ‘Sunday Roast Lunch’ at one of old favourite restaurants from when we first arrived down on the ‘ Costa Del Sol all those years ago, ‘The Beach House’ at Elviria on the coast on the far side of Marbella, it’s their ‘ Ultimate Sunday Lunch’ as they are then closed for a month for the annual staff holidays! They have ‘ live music’ so the place will be bouncing, the last time we were there was with Tim & Thea & friends for the ‘ Sunday Roast’ - I ended up leading the dancing as the singer & guitarist was our old friend, Vidal, brother, Felix!

PS; Still no sign or sightings of the ‘ Moffatt’s’ and their motor home – are they still here or on their way home?!  The forecast for North Wales this morning, which is on ‘ Yellow ‘ alert is for storm force gales and very heavy rain ( 2 inches!)

PPS; We are getting reports that they have been spotted in Cartagena' today!!

See below the ‘Colwyn Bay’ promenade this morning!

For our supper this evening we are having “ Grilled ‘ Chuletas de Cordero’ – Lamb Cutlets/Chops “ which I have marinated in Olive Oil & Rosemary, Salt & Pepper, from our ‘Iceland’ shopping we are having ‘ Sugar Snap’ Peas & Baby New ‘ Herb’ Potatoes in their skins, with a sauceboat of my famous ‘ Tomato Salsa’ and Mint sauce on the side.

Tomorrow evening Lee is joining us for supper as Daniela has gone away on business to London for a week, I’m making ‘ Braised Steak & Onions’ with Brenda’s famous ‘ Mashed Potato’ and a lovely Savoy Cabbage ( Iceland)

Yesterday afternoon/evening we had one of our ‘Quiz’ days, ‘ Pointless, Eggheads, University Challenge, & Only Connect’ – then over on BBC 1 we caught a very good two-part documentary ‘ The Last Miners’  - showing the last few weeks of the 450 miners, before being made redundant, from the last deep coal mine in Britain, the ‘ Kellingley Colliery in North Yorkshire. They drop down over 800 metres below ground before taking a small ‘ paddy’ train for four miles to the coalface, the temperature rises to 33 degs+ - a very hostile and dangerous environment to work in, but their ‘ black’ humour is never far from the surface!

The scenes in the Colliery showers as they wash each over down was very moving, the comradeship and dedication is unbelievable, they are ‘ real men’ who have worked down the mines all their lives, they still aim to beat records, they also bemoan the loss of all the coal fields and can’t understand why Germany is being allowed to build new coal-fired power stations and over in China where ‘ Coal is King’ and they have flooded the world markets with cheap coal?!

Thoughts for the Day; See above.
