We were up
early this morning and after a quick breakfast we shot out on our travels down
to Sabinillas for our weekly shopping; Brenda picked up the local newspapers
and another birthday card in the ‘English Bookshop’ before we did our main shop
in ‘Mercadona’ – next we called into ‘Super Sol’ for some English essentials
and I spotted some ‘Young’s Haddock Fillets in Crispy Batter’ on offer – we have
been fancying some Haddock for a while as its not available on the fish counters
understandably!
After
unloading back at the house, after coming back up the hill through the vine
fields, which are now shooting up despite the lack of rain, they are very Green
& bushy but you can’t see the Grapes as the they are ground growing on the
sandy soil in the shade of the vine leafs!
I popped
along to the ‘Chemists’ in Calle Mar for some tablets – keep taking them as the
‘Doctor’ says! On the way back I went down past the ‘Casa de los Torres’ which
is starting to look rather good, they have pointed the old stone work around
the entrance and are at the moment laying the courtyard with some very fancy
large tiles, I will try and get some pictures later.See below, the new doors are rather 'grand' !
Speaking of
pictures, tomorrow morning I’m going to have to stay here in the house as our Handyman,
Joaquin. is due at 11-00am to fit the new small back kitchen and catch up with
all the repairs, which is the same time as the ‘Romeria’ parade and also of
course the inauguration of the new Mayor !!
So today is
the last day at work for our five local councilors in their jobs, they are
still councilors but not in the government. Many thanks to Diego, Mario,
Marcos, Eva & Paqui for all their hard and dedicated work over the past
eight years! I’ve just bumped into Valentina outside the Town Hall, who also
has lost her job with the ‘Foreign Residents Department’ and wished her all the
best for the future.
This means
that I will get some pictures from the council photographer and also Gary from
‘The Resident’ newspaper to post on the Blog.
So for our
supper this evening we are having, for a change, the ‘Haddock’ with Mushy Peas,
twice-cooked ‘Frits’ and Homemade Tartar sauce, not forgetting lots of Lemon
wedges; then tomorrow its ‘Tournedos Rossini’ with whole fine Green Beans and
some more ‘Frits’!
In ‘Doggy
World Heaven’ this weekend there is a little change as ‘Scruffy’ in now here on
Saturday for a sleep over and being picked up later on Sunday afternoon; the
poor lad has been in the wars, he was limping, so Rose took him to the vets and
they discovered that he had cut his paw and it was infected, he had to have an
operation under anesthetic and his paw is now bandaged with a sock on it and he
has a large collar around his neck to stop him licking the wound!
We will
give him lots of love and help the patient to recuperate, back to his normal
self, while he is with us! On Sunday lunchtime ‘Reina’ is due back with us for
the day and no doubt his other friend ‘Chispa’ will be here to see him as well!
If only !!
Today it’s
very hot with just a little breeze to make it rather pleasant, the storm clouds
have crossed over us on the way up to Northern Spain and the forecast for the weekend
and into next week is settled and even getting a little warmer on Monday.
After our
‘Fish & Chip’ supper we will settle down to find a film to watch after
catching up with all the news, sport and weather details on TVE1.
Thoughts
for the Day; See above.
